Don`t overdue it. I doubt the former owner used it as toilet paper. If a record cover is very dirty, give it a cautious cleaning With a wet wipe like here, let it dry completely, then put it in a palstic cover cover so no further damage or dirt is exposed to the cover. Personally, I don`t clean record covers, butI think I am going to start doing the dirty ones. Thanks for the post.
For albums purchased at thrift stores that are just old but not dirty, to really brighten them up, spray s touch of lemon Pledge on the cover. With a paper towel rub the liquid evenly thought out the album cover. Let is set for about three minutes then with new paper towel. start rubbing the pledge in circles like polishing a careuntil you have a nice shine. Apply a bit more pressure if there minor dirty areas. It will really lively up the album cover. The colors will really come out. Only use Lemon Pledge, no other furnisher polish brands especially cheap dollar store ones. Also Pledge has an ingredient that will restore some moister I the paper.

Thanks Dude. I'm extremely sensitive to mold and mildew and I have just begun collecting jazz albums. I've been spraying with Lysol and then wiping the albums down. I like your method better and I will be using it from now on. My only addition is that I then place any albums that had visible mildew or just smelled like it in a sunny window for a day or so (each side) and let the UV of the sun kill off any spores that I might have missed.

Great tip, man! I do the exact same thing to clean dirty record covers, and it’s amazing what’s on em sometimes. I assume you know about cleaning your stylus by dropping it into a Mr. clean magic eraser too? Gotta be careful not to have any horizontal movements, but it works great.
If i may add an observation, i would definitely recommend using the variety of wipes that you show in the video, which is Citrus. That was what i first used and they worked just great. But when i went back to the store for more, they were out of the Citrus, so i bought Lemon & Lime in the yellow container. They clean just fine, but i noticed later that every sleeve i cleaned with them retained the odor of the Lysol, whereas the sleeves i cleaned with the Citrus still smell like an old record.
He is using Citrus scent, which i am pretty sure was very recently discontinued. The ones in the yellow container are Lemon & Lime Blossom, and in my experience, the scent of that variety lingers on the record sleeve where the Citrus scent does not. The new Lysol Dual Action variety uses the Citrus scent. You just have to be careful not to use the rough side! If you give any variety a try, post back with your findings.
I recently got a og copy of Stevie Wonder “Songs In The Key Of Life” and a og copy of Micheal Jackson “Off The Wall” and they had mold on them and this worked perfectly to get it off.

Just take your hand and lightly glide your finger tips across a used album cover. You will fill how dirty they are. But ones you use the wipes and then take a dry microfiber cloth wipe it off. It's smooth and clean.
Actually, you can still get the Citrus scent, but only with their new Dual Action product that has a smooth side and a rough side. i have been using these for a couple weeks now with no problems. You just have to fold them so that you aren't using the rough side on your record sleeve!

The evening of the second day, i felt a little woozy. Maybe it was from breathing in too much of the Lysol or maybe i absorbed too much of it into my system through my hands. i probably just overdid it. Has anyone else experienced this?
"409" cleaning spray works good for mold too. I have a question: I keep my albums in plastic sleeves with the opening of the sleeve facing out to the side (not top loading). But some of the records that were mold free have developed mold spots on the part of the record near the opening of the sleeve. Do you think if I top load the albums this would be prevented?
Have the opening of the sleeves at the top and have no more than two fingers of space between the top of the sleeve and the next level of the shelf. Also, use a moisture absorber like Hippos to keep moisture away. Keep the record collection at an even room temperature and be vigilant with dust as this will attract mites. Mites will leave urine and excrement, not only on books but also on record sleeves. Dust and mould attract mites. We all have to battle these little bastards!
I've always had the record opening on the side of the album the right hand side if you have the opening on the top of the album that way dust can get in through the top that's the way I've always did it just like the majority of record stores
Besides having the plastic record sleeve opening on the side of the album I put the albums inside the record sleeve where the inside sleeve facing up yes you take the whole sleeve out but none of the record is being exposed

I use Goo Be Gone on a rag. Wipe, then wipe again with a clean dry cloth and let it dry for a few minutes. Works great! Takes off the grime, shines em up and takes away the musty smell.
Very informative and helpful. But the use profanity doesn't need emphasis on cleaning LPS. Professional information carries more weight when people are apt to relay in a proper manner. You maybe now say of think,$$## you. But then thanks Very helpful again.

I would wear gloves and mask anytime dealing with mold. I learned the hard way.

Great Jazz man, but seriously was the cover laminated or not and does it work for the non laminated as I would worry about the print coming off!

if you do rub too hard it will remove the print, but just be gentle and your good.
I mean, the jacket is blue and black and the stuff on the wipe is brown and green. I think he's alright.
