  • Another common viola concerti :D
    Nah, not gonna copy and paste again.
    I actually do not listen so many J.C. Bach's works, so I don't know if it is really sounding like it is something J.C. Bach would compose.
    No com.
    Hope you enjoy~

    I would’ve switched to the violin if it wasn’t for this piece. Not a lot of viola concertos but this one really stand out

      The Hoffmeister ones and the Vanhal one are really beautiful, though, more enjoyable--and I say this as a former violinist--than the violin ones of the time. Sure, then Romanticism forgot the viola existed...

    It's sort of surprising that anyone ever thought this was originally composed by C. P. E. Bach. If this was the score that was originally discovered, how could anyone have ever mistaken it for eighteenth century harmony? I'm no professional musician, but the harmony sounds much too rich (too many accidentals, for one) to come out of the Classical period.

    Trotzdem tolle Musik

    There's even a version for Violin & Cello which they did that by writing 2 new solo parts.

      Yeah, when a young JC Bach got the job as organist at the Milan Cathedral he was known for being able to combine both the German learned counterpoint style with the Italian more emotional and increasingly single melody style. However he leaned towards the more modern single melody style and in a letter to his Italian teacher Padre Martini he expressed concerns that he would be criticized for his church compositions sounding too secular. But as we know, even though it was such a prestigious position, he did not stay long at Milan before moving onto London where a truly great career was waiting for him. He was a star in his time.

    Listen tot any sinfonia concertante or piano concerto by JC Bach on RUclips and you'll hear that this viola concerto has really absolutely nothing to do with JC Bach's style. Probably Casadesus knew nothing about JC Bach's music either. But i must add that i've played Casadesus' concerto with pleasure.

      I was about to say. The orchestration is too heavy and unimaginative to be in the style of Jc Bach. The harmonic textures in the second movement are something more romantic than galant. The only association with Jc Bach that I can think of is that all three movements are in a minor key, which may be a tribute to his better known g minor symphony (also three minor keyed movements).

    • @JT-jt2id
      @JT-jt2id 8 месяцев назад

      @@markusboyd4834 I'm not sure I agree that the texture in the second movement is all that romantic it sounds baroque and not entirely dissimilar to the harmonies in pieces like this:

    This piece absolutely DOES NOT sound like Johann Christian Bach. J.C.Bach was a contemporary of Haydn, and a great influence on young Mozart when they met in London when Wolfgang was 7-8 years old. So much so that J.C. Bach's works sound like more sophisticated works by young Mozart -- except the emulation was the other way round.
