this is NOT seen as a beauty pageant, nor does it bill itself as one; rather is is a scholarship contest; if it were merely a beauty pageant, why then would they have a talent portion? just my opinions; i completely respect your right to your opinion.
When she walked out in that gown, I knew she would win - look how regal and absolutely gorgeous she is. Her talent was ok, passable - sexy and entertaining and better than NC, LA, TX in the top 10, so given that this is a beauty pageant - let the most beautiful girl win - plus she was charming and as we found out later - courageous.
@latinoguy PATRICIA Lei Anderson was 4th runner-up in 1962....Penny Lee Rudd, Miss Texas, was 2nd runner-up.....Susan Dee Pickering, Miss Hawaii 1963, was 2nd runner-up, but she was not asian.....
Glad they didnt keep this tradition of going right into Evening Gown competition............strips the excitement right out of making the top ten...........esp. w/this music.
Miss Hawaii....so beautiful!
That bow on miss Mississippi belongs on the hood of a car
I worked in the Atlantic City Convention Center for many years during pageant week and was there when Carolyn Sapp, Miss Hawaii won. Great show!
Miss Hawaii could have won Miss USA had she gone that route.
Evening gown scores (IMO):
Missouri - 8
Mississippi - 9
Washington - 4
Texas - 5
New York - 5
Kansas - 7
Louisiana - 6
North Carolina - 7
Iowa - 8
Hawaii - 8
They all look like stepford wives. So damm uptight.
Long Live Miss America!!!!
What stupid thing to do. To combine the evening gown competition with the annoucement of the top 10...made no sense at all!
@vinceplano She was a finalist a year earlier...
I know who Miss Nebraska was here and I think I spotted her. Her name now Natalie Tysdal of "KWGN/KDVR news in Denver"!
These were the days when women from all states didn't look all the same and generic. Nowadays, they all seem to have the same body and face right?
@vinceplano It was the year after this one.
Kim Parrish of QVC and HSN fame was Miss West Virginia for 92.

RIP Bert Parks
Carolyn Sapp (Miss Hawaii) is my cousin!!!
The 1st Runner Up should have won . Miss New York had REAL TALENT. Carolyn was beautiful with NO Talent
They got it right
Isnt this actually1991 top 10 not 92 ?
Granted, it wasn't the best talent ever presented but it wasn't that bad.
Actually that was 1969....and the first Asian to place was in 1962, fourth runner-up to Jackie Mayer
@vinceplano She's in the background and not in the top ten.
@latinoguy PATRICIA Lei Anderson was 4th runner-up in 1962....Penny Lee Rudd, Miss Texas, was 2nd runner-up.....Susan Dee Pickering, Miss Hawaii 1963, was 2nd runner-up, but she was not asian.....
@latinoguy Miss Hawaii 1969, Sheryl Hung Lan Lokelani Akaka, was a top ten finalist the year Pam Eldred won, which, by the way, was 1970, NOT 1971
Long Live Bert Parks!!!!

ultimately, that's what killed Miss America pageant. They kept changing things. It was always so forced and disappointing to the audience.
I think Miss Missouri looks like a brunette Melanie Griffith
I think Miss Kansas nailed the evening gown part, but her talent left a lot to be desired.
