I'm 90% sure the car has aftermarket remote start system, that's why it stays running. This is made like that because car is manual to prevent starting on a gear remotely. The car is from Surgut, Siberia according to plate it has (86 region) and they use it all the time to warm up cars. Try to release hand brake first and shut it off. If it stalls than I'm right.

Hi, Sreten! Thanks for another great video and looking forward to enjoying the new project! E34 M5 is very special one! Honestly, I wish you had one as well ;) Regarding engine that does not stop after you remove the key. If the car has aftermarket car alarm system (and knowing the car is from Russia), I bet it is the reason. Look, in Russia we have these alarms with something called “smart Neutral control” function - for cars with manual gearboxes. The idea is that you park the car, pull up the handbrake, remove the key and then lock the car using alarm key fob and only then engine stops - this makes the alarm “remember” that the car is on Neutral and will let it start remotely from a key fob. Otherwise, it will not. The easy ways to check: 1) do not pull up the handbrake after you park, then remove the key and engine shall stop in about 5 sec. Then you can pull up the handbrake; OR 2) lock it using key fob and it shall stop. Hopefully, this will help!
Came here to say the same thing about the remote starter. Old systems used to work like this, where the car would stay running if you shut it off in neutral with the handbrake engaged. Given the hacked wiring under the dash and that it came from a cold climate, it's likely.
Having recently gotten an '93 E34 (albeit a 520i), it's the one car from BMW's legendary classic line-up I've been waiting to see you have a go at! And low and behold, here we finally are, with an E34 M5! Project Marta is going to be amazing!
I've owned a '93 RHD E34 520i Touring since '98, now has 400,000 kms on it. Great car, no rust as it's been down in southern France since '98. Now in process of rebuilding the front suspension and it needs some tailgate wiring sorting as the tailgate and tailgate glass releases don't work.
When converting to non SLS rear shocks, just fit a standard 535i PAS pump. It's nice to see an E34 M5 that isn't absolutely shagged with rust. Most in the UK have seen some action with a welding torch. Valve and throttle body adjustment is essential to get close to the full 340 ponies as is proper fuel, not 95 octane junk.
So nice to finally see an E34 on the channel! my all time favourite BMW. Cant wait to see this beautiful M5 getting some love. Also Misha is a really nice guy!

I remember when the first owners were done with these cars, the second owner who bought it usually lived near a border and used the car to smuggle fuel (100L tank)... if you keep it around 90kph the engine is surprisingly fuel efficient, do 2-3 trips a day, and you have comfortable living. 17:00 fan clutch is stuck, should not be turning with an ice cold engine
If it makes you feel better, my E39 528i died on a long journey, fuel gauge said half-full. I had to get it recovered on a truck and then get a BMW mechanic out to look at it. After a few hours, he diagnosed no fuel... As a rear ABS sensor had dropped out, it stopped sending a distance signal to the ECU, consequently, the fuel gauge stopped working; it doesn't just use the flait in the tank to get a measurement !
just 2 hours ago i thought to myself: `Maybe a new episode of m539 might come today?!` And now here I am and looking forward to watching this. Im sure it will be awesome as always!
I agree with Sreten, this car Misha, looks extremely good from what is shown in the video. I have looked for a M5 for over 10 years and local cars mostly were in a much worse state! You got a gem there and a really good deal. Regarding vibrations, you should get rid of that by replacing front control arms and like Sreten said, do all the rest at the same time. The ruff running is normal, the S38 runs ruff, you could adjust valve clearance. The flywheel sound is pretty normal too, it's not a dual mass flywheel. Compression is really perfect! Rear shock are dead, yes, you can hear them sing. Ah yes, for the brakes in the front, if it has 4 pistons, then it's not stock. The 3,6 1988 had 315x28 and single piston. The 4 pistons brake might come from a 750i or 850i and has 324x30.
Sreten: “My thing is too big” Misha: “That’s what she said” Great piece of banter there 😁 Also, I would love to hear the out-take of what happened after Misha said “Gay” 😁

Couple notes coming from an E34 M5 owner: - Flywheel chatter is normal on the earlier M5s with a single mass flywheel. - Not sure how many miles are on the engine, but if it’s high mileage then the rod bearings wear on the S38B38. (Not the B36). I’d check those if it’s more than 125k miles. Valve adjustment every 25k miles. - Missing drain plug thingy under those plastic side sills. - The 420G six-speed and matching 3.23 diff are extremely rare and expensive. Other 420Gs have different bellhousing and don’t work. Six speed only adds a cruising gear so not a performance upgrade unless you get a different diff like a 3.7 or so. - Originally diamond schwartz it looks like? Nice extended black leather with the rear breadbox. All in all it looks like a nice buy.
I am subscribed to both channels for a long time. I have been salivating at the prospect of an E34 on the M539 channel as I used to own a '95 540i 6-speed. It was my baby, until I was diagnosed with MS and can no longer drive. The M5 you have would be pre-93 facelift models. The kidney grills on mine were larger, and the hood "body lines" on the later models were more pronounced and curved towards the A-pillar. I have a few hundred pictures, I'd love to share with you if you're interested I could send a few... Also, the 6-speed trans in the 540i was delightful. Better gear-ratio than the 5-speed for regular daily use around town. Very robust. I would vote to maintain it's originality, there are so few examples left in any condition. Cheers! Chris (the "BCK NKD" name was my license plate, BUCK NAKED, was from an old episode of Seinfeld. LOL)
The engine is on after the key is off the ignition lock, because of sher khan alarm system. (sticker on windshield glass). It's a protection for remote engine start. Makes you sure, that your manual gearbox is in neutral. So, when you start engine from your appartment, your car doest go and kill people and destroy property.
I just found this channel after watching Misha's video on the project, and I've now watched basically all of the videos. Excellent entertainment, it shows that you really put a lot of work into the cars & videos. Somehow I find myself enjoying the E31 content the most, such a cool & underrated motor vehicle, and very cool seeing them in manual form too. Anyway, great job, hope you all the success!
The passenger side windshield wiper is likely removed, because of the windshield wiping mehcanism has worn out. You can check the hood for any scratches, because when the bushing goes bad, the arm starts rubbing off paint of the hood. I recently had my mechanism fully rebuilt. The mechanism tends to wear out on these cars.
Wow... a Bmer going from Russia through Poland to Germany :D unusual :) I wouldn't be surprised that it was stolen in Germany at the beginning of the journey :D I am Polish and it used to be a pandemic of cars stolen in Germany, VIN changed new papers made in Poland and then sold to Russians.
I agree. The story that a car like this sat around from '88 to '95 for seven years untill it was sold "new" in post-communist Poland sounds fishy. I also think it had a life pre-'95 (probably in Germany), got stolen during the 1990s-car-theft-epidemic and the VIN was washed in Poland to sell the car to Russia. If that VIN is even original to the car. You can probably safely drive it in Poland, but I don't know how long german authorities store the VINs of stolen cars. I wouldn't try to register it here in Germany, yet alone drive it as is. A dated BMW on polish plates is the mother of all cop magnets. Let's hope Sreten isn't the unlucky guy who is driving this thing into a TÜV-station.
Thrust bushes on the lower arms cause the vibrating steering under braking And prop shaft bearing Spiget bearing in the flywheel You doing a great job keep up the good work
Beautiful car! And I'm really happy that guys from Poland could help Misha with papers ;) I'm now in the middle of rebuilding E32 (M60B30) 1992 for my Fiancee. Engine is rebuilt, now doing the brake system and fuel system... Should ride like a charm soon :) Best regards from Poland!
Polish guys from Bochnia (by the registration plate) who recognize this car - speak up and tell your part of the story! BTW: towing a car with the hazard lights on is prohibited I believe. How the heck the guys behind you should know that you are going to take a left turn, uhm?
Stolen in 2001 in the centre of the Wroclaw. Was beautifully parked 300 meters from main Police Station. Owner had been too confident - German citizen.
Fun fact: in 90s Poland, due to post-commie poverty and wild, early capitalism cars like BMW and mercs were only affordable to businessmen and politicians, many of which had some shady things going on, including connections with russian "businessmen", so this being a polish car later sold to Russia makes it somewhat possible that it was once owned by a mafia member and it makes the car that bit cooler to me (you can put faux pre-2000 polish black number plates for extra gangster vibe). You really didn't want to run into one of these in a dark alley. Just to give you a better perspective: for some time in the late 80s polish GDP was lower than Russia's, so if your father dropped you off at school in something like an E34, it was almost as shocking as flying a helicopter. The 5er in particular was often driven by lesser mafia members, while big fish would roll in a W140, a SEC (bought with cash in a dealership in Warsaw, obviously) or a 7 series.
One of the best videos in recent times. Like... many times more interesting than a bit boring repair of an Alpina engine. More people, more storytelling, more experience and emotions. Well well done!!!
I was wondering when you are going to work on a E34 M5 and finally the time has come, YESSS! I also have a E34 and i think its one of the most beautiful BMWs ever made.
Definitely the Aussie Sheep Dog is the star of the show, as I just love the marled marking they have and their good temperament . As for the car and where it has been, its running not bad, except for that latter electrical fault which of course you will sort out - won't you?
I think I saw a video once about this thing, If that thing came from somewhere close to Siberia they modify their cars to keep them running if they need to go to a store or something but take the keys with them and lock it . It gets so cold out there if you stop it you won't be able to restart it. Can you imagine how much fun they had having a e34 M5 on those roads full of ice and snow ...
My computer isn't working....did you plug in your device?? YES OF COURSE I DID.... wait what? LOL happened to me so many times. Love your honesty mate!
Sreten continues to deliver not just content, but genuine dad jokes that sometimes don't even slot into dad-joke category. It helps that his humor and meme game are both beyond the point where he can basically make Wong from MCU laugh. broken BMW man Sreten always pulls through.
Anytime a car has been sitting for a while, the correct questions are "Is there oil in the engine?", "Is there fuel in the tank?". The E34 rear suspension has no ball joints, it is the same as the E30 (similar design i mean), semi trailing arms with bushings. It is a good idea to replace all the sensors and switches in the engine bay (TPS, Engien Temp Sensor, Coolant Temp Sensor, Coolant Level Sensor etc etc).
I’m surprised how fast this arrived. I personally believe that this car is becoming a Nurburgring Icon live. So cool Sreten and Misha got together, future legends.
This is very cool! I have a much rougher E34 M5 that I'm currently swapping to a Touring chassis (structural rust on the M5 is not worth cost to restore). You have a rare vier-sitzer option with the split rear seat! Very cool!
I don’t mean to make this sappy but I honestly have been so bored with everything content wise on RUclips, your account is the only account I enjoy watching now and every day I reload my subscriptions crossing my fingers if it’s the day you upload it truly brings me joy to watch your content and as someone that wrenches at home it’s amazing to witness your skill and experience. I used to have an e46 coupe which I did full top end rebuild on but now I have Japanese garbage and am restoring two Nissan s13 240sx’s I really wish you the best and can’t wait for more!!!!
Can't imagine Misha let the car sit thinking it's broken while actually it was out of fuel! He thinks It's broken again but wait who thinks it's out of fuel again lol! :) As a bonus he has a fuel storage just outside his garage!!!
22:21 - The 540i 6 Speed has the same internals as the M5 3.8 6 Speed but the bellhousing is different - unfortunately you can't take a 6 speed from a 540i (M60 or E39 M62) and bolt it on. The bellhousing of the S38 is the older style shared with the M30 and M10 engines.

Also, the 6-speed trans in the 540i was delightful. Better gear-ratio than the 5-speed for regular daily use around town. Very robust.
I would vote to maintain it's originality, there are so few examples left in any condition.
Cheers!
Chris
(the "BCK NKD" name was my license plate, BUCK NAKED, was from an old episode of Seinfeld. LOL)
I love the E34! So Ronin!
This channel just keeps getting more based with each new video.

OMG!! What we all E34 fans have been waiting for!!
This is the best colaboration ever! Thank you guys.
I've been waiting so patiently for this. My 2 favorite youtuber's collaborating.
My favourite BMW. A buddy of mine had one years ago. The engine is a jewel.
Love the "9mm Mafia" badge hanging off the mirror.
I had that until I raised the back of my hood slightly by putting washers under the mounts on the hood.
I miss germany, I was stationed there twice. Love the roads and country side. :)
Wow... a Bmer going from Russia through Poland to Germany :D unusual :) I wouldn't be surprised that it was stolen in Germany at the beginning of the journey :D I am Polish and it used to be a pandemic of cars stolen in Germany, VIN changed new papers made in Poland and then sold to Russians.
yep agree seems very strange
It wasn't show on a BMW VIN check if fake
I am so glad you are featuring the e34, it's my favourite model of bmw
Kudos for giving the dog some love.
We had a Koolie here in Australia - looks just like that dog, same happy personality. 17 years we had her :-(
My first car was an E34 525i. Second car an E34 540i and third a 535i. Great cars! Fun to work on.
You have to get an E34 M5, they are such a beautiful looking car.
True, and getting more expensive every day. Anyone who wants one, should buy now, prices are on the rise!!
Thrust bushes on the lower arms cause the vibrating steering under braking
And prop shaft bearing
Spiget bearing in the flywheel
You doing a great job keep up the good work
I love the fact that after all those awesome cars Misha drives, he still daily drive a Mk4 Golf.. (nothing wrong with that ofcourse) 🙂
“Nope!! Found my cave, ain’t gonna move for nobody!!” 🤣🤣🐶🐶
18:30 that slight disgust when saying coilovers
Beautiful car! And I'm really happy that guys from Poland could help Misha with papers ;)
I'm now in the middle of rebuilding E32 (M60B30) 1992 for my Fiancee. Engine is rebuilt, now doing the brake system and fuel system... Should ride like a charm soon :)
Best regards from Poland!
Witam. Warsztat renowację robi czy samemu?

Wow, such beautiful car. Imagine after your magic Sreten.
Cheers from Brazil!

Me: oh, yeah this is definitely a music! My favoirite genre :D
Hello from Russia, by the way. We love your videos;)
Polish guys from Bochnia (by the registration plate) who recognize this car - speak up and tell your part of the story!
BTW: towing a car with the hazard lights on is prohibited I believe.
How the heck the guys behind you should know that you are going to take a left turn, uhm?
You switch off hazard and show turn when necessary.
Stolen in 2001 in the centre of the Wroclaw. Was beautifully parked 300 meters from main Police Station. Owner had been too confident - German citizen.
@@gwidonpopielski2885 if this is true then it's hillarious LOL
Has to be the best channel on RUclips for DIY wrenching. Love it.
From russia with love
Из России с любовью как говорится
This was a strange episode. Don't know how I felt about it to be honest. Hope the next one is just you, the M5 and the dojo
Ali- very good discernment
I have the E60 M5 that looks just like yours. I love how you use it as a work vehicle. Awesome.
I love being a patreon patron so much, having the early access to these videos makes me so happy lol
I wish Misha kept this E34 M5. His wagon episode brought me here.
The best towing rope I ever used it was an old used sit belt , and I even used it to hold heavyweight diesel engines
I use 2 chains with an old tyre in the middle to absorb the jolting. Works really well.
Dropping the oil pan on this car
*finds whole bottle of vodka (empty of course)
As long as there aren't any nails...
The house call format at Apex at the Nürburgring is certainly refreshing change.
Must feel good to work on someone else car for a change and not having to pay for all the parts.
Nice to see both of you on a project. Mischa is a really nice dude
Kamatarka
Good to see a car with flawless history. Rare these days.
New video of streten = best part of the week
My computer isn't working....did you plug in your device?? YES OF COURSE I DID.... wait what? LOL happened to me so many times. Love your honesty mate!
I’m following Micha for quite some time now so I was a bit surprised to see him in your video. Great team!
i'm a simple man, when i see a new Sreten video i just instantly click the damn like button
This is highly motivating to fix my M5, soon It’ll be up to spec ! Love the color combo on that m5 !
Ma boi making his way up the ranks! Listening to him say, you want coils? You want new exhaust? Dang! Pimpin!!!
“That was fun let’s not ever do that again.” Classic line. I will have to use that!
This stuff should be on Netflix!
Good to know, thanks!
Can't recall if i was aware of this channel or Misha's before, but now seeing them two together ... :D
LOL, Sreten and Misha. This is like a rock supergroup of the RUclips car world.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! IT'S FINALLY AN E34!!!!! AHHHH!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I literally live and breeeeeeathe E34. I've owned two of them in my life, one as my very first car and it's the chassis I always keep coming back too. There are no words to describe my feelings for this absolute ultimate driving machineeeee. In my opinion, E34 M5 is the last of the great M5's. It has aged so well as a piece of legendary 80s design. 👌👌👌
I'm VERY excited to see you and Misha collab-ing. Some day I WILL own a 3.6l E34 M5. 🙏
Finally, as an E34 owner and lover i really enjoyed this video and cant wait for more!
Just the best car restoration channel! Love it! No blabla, no endless sponsor bs. Keep it like this:D
Doggo is so cute and fluffy :X:X. The car is also cute-ish because it has the classic BMW square-ish design with round headlights, which I love.
