    Would love to see Skyline come back on line! Learned to ski there at 3 years old!

    I would love it if it were Wintergreen. I live in Spring Green, and I would sure love to get our own ski resort!

    Reopening Wintergreen would be an interesting project. I was there from the beginning, hired as a ski instructor by Brian Fairbank who had been on the PSIA National Demonstration Team and was the head of the new ski school. There were 7 of us. The best thing about Wintergreen was that if you learned to ski there, you could ski anywhere. Most of the terrain was very steep and often icy. The area struggled from the start, mainly due to the lack of good beginner/intermediate terrain. The growth of the area was stunted and Brian left after a couple of years due to failed expectations. He went on to own Jiminy Peak and other resorts out east and is well known for his environmentalist approach to ski area management. He is in the US Skier Hall of Fame. I ended up directing the ski school for one year, then went back east to finish college. At Wintergreen we started an "after school" ski lesson program that blossomed to include many of the junior high and high schools from as far away as metropolitan Madison. We needed 20 ski instructors to handle the flood of students who came during the week for after-school and night skiing. I would imagine that if Wintergreen reopened (particularly with more intermediate terrain created) that such a program could flourish again.

      It was certainly an interesting place, never skied it but would love to see it back up and running again. I agree though lack of beginner and intermediate terrain would be something that would have to be addressed in order for it to be successful.

    Wintergreen or Skyline. Skied skyline in HS and when I returned to the area. Would ski in the morning for 90 minutes and go to work. Great video.

      Thanks Mark! Yes both Skyline and Wintergreen would be great additions and I know it would certainly bring back a lot of memories for a lot of people. :)

    Look up Majestic Ski Hill in Wisconsin. I skied it as a young kid. I'd like to see it revived. Maybe it's the resort this company is buying??

    I just found your channel and I love it! Tyrol is my “home” hill and I live relatively close to the Wintergreen. I’m very curious, has there been any more news as to which hill it might be?? Personally I would love it to be the Wintergreen as there are so few developed places that overlook the lower Wisconsin river. Combining that view and skiing would be so cool to experience!

      Glad you enjoy the channel! No news yet- there is still a deal being worked on though. I’ll certainly keep everyone up-to-date when things get finalized. I agree though wintergreen would be pretty cool 😎

    I miss Sky Line, they had legit steeps.

  • @sohlbergk
    @sohlbergk 2 года назад

    Wintergreen get's my vote. Challenging steeps, excellent view and an unlimited water supply. What's not to like?! Never visited Skyline, but from the pix it looks to have some interesting terrain. It would probably have to compete with both Cascade and Granite peak for skier-days though. Timberline probably has the least appeal, but any new skiing is a win.

    Lake Geneva’s former Majestic Hills Ski property was just sold. Been closed since 1988. Maybe another go around?

    • @MidwestSkiers

      Very very small chance as it was sold to a real estate developer. We covered it in our latest Rope Tow Report-> ruclips.net/video/-t95t1f4lg4/видео.html

      Thanks for the latest info. I also happened to drive past today two other closed ski areas in southeast Wisconsin. Paradise Valley Ski Resort that closed in 1977(about 2 miles east of Alpine Valley)and Mt Fuji Ski Hill that closed in 1970(about a mile northwest of Mountain Top at Grand Geneva. The Hawks View Golf Course is there now). Majestic Hills was a fun place back in the day.

      @@MrBobbytot do you remember one just over the Illinois line from Wilmot called Lost Valley?

    • @MrBobbytot
      @MrBobbytot 2 года назад +1

      Dr Death, the one that you were referring to adjacent and to the south of Wilmot Mountain was called Gander Mountain. Lost Valley, originally called Hidden Valley was located about about 5 miles south of Wilmot Mountain on U.S. 12 about 3 miles north of Fox Lake in Spring Grove.

      @@MrBobbytot yes, that's the one. Thanks for the correction.
      Holiday park was another one s few miles south and a tad bit more recent.

    Not in the mix here, but I would love to see Norway Mountain in Norway, MI come back online. Skied there years ago and thought the terrain was great for all ski levels. Not to put Pine Mountain down, but I don’t know how that hill continued and Norway had to close. It had to be the ski jump.

    • @MidwestSkiers
      @MidwestSkiers  3 года назад +1

      There is a lot that goes into ski resort operations that can cause closures and about 95% of them have nothing to do with the terrain or quality of the skiing itself. A prime example of this is Suger Loaf in Michigan. Amazing skiing - poor management. Anyways.. always hold out hope, there have been a lot of midwestern hill revivals recently so you never know!

    I'd like to see Snowbowl in La Crosse reopen, but they'd have to start from scratch since it closed when the lodge burned down in the 50's. The bowl still holds snow better than anywhere else nearby, it was a prime location.

    • @jamiedimon403
      @jamiedimon403 3 года назад

      Where was Snowbowl at or located? I cannot find mention of it. I am hoping to buy a season pass this year at Mt. LaCrosse...hoping they would put some $$$ into improving that place.
