LOTR Mod Divide And Conquer Just Got A MASSIVE Update

- Hey guys, so you might remember that just over a year ago I covered the Third Age mod for Medieval 2 Total War. I talked about all the beautiful factions and custom built battle maps but I also briefly spoke about the spiritual successor that has continued development through all these years; Divide and Conquer.
With over 200 new custom battles maps, fully overhauled and unique mechanics and events for each playable faction as well as an extensive unit roster redesign, if you ever want to play a true Lord of the Rings Total War this is definitely it.
There are other mods like it of course Dawnless Days which we’re still waiting for the campaign on, Lord of the Rings Total War on Rome Remastered or Where The Shadows Lie on Troy but all of these are still very much works in progress and aren’t nearly as playable as Divide and Conquer is today.
Today I’m here to tell you that DAC just received a major update with version 5.0 bringing this beautiful middle earth mod to the forefront of new and exciting campaigns and with all of the changes made from new custom city and castle models on the map to overhauled unit rosters for Aragorn’s faction especially and loads of other brilliant changes, it’s never been a better time to jump back into Medieval 2 and check this amazing mod out.

Hey Terminator, why does nobody mod Three Kingdom or Troy into a Medeival 2 like overhaul? I thought they are now able to change the campaign map. Those game would give a more modern plattform for modding :O

Just wanted to point out that you are again using some footage from Third Age: Reforged... i dont think its morally right nor is it an accurate depiction of the mod if you are showing footage from other mods in the video without even giving that a mention ^^, Im assuming you werent aware of using incorrect footage hence why im writing you this message...
Time stamps of the footage I am referring to is at the 0:40 , 1:57 , and 6:57 minute marks. This is footage from a pixelated apollo video showcasing Third Age: Reforged multiplayer scenarios... You will not find this in DaC, you have used this footage also in a previous DaC related video... anyways, hope this message reaches you and I wish you a good day

Love this mod I can't stop playing it. It really is like a LotR total war. Played as Rohan. Can't move theoden for two turns. Isengard wanted to trade I denied them and they sent swooping armies into my country
Hands down the best total war experience there is. Have been playing some form of third age for over a decade!

@@Emanon... To hell with those clowns bro, I feel your comment 100%. no one is taking away from CA or TATW team in the slightest. But, Arachir picked up the crown from the gutter. His lore videos drew the average Tolkien fan to want to try...not the game....not the mod...but a sub mod (not knocking the other sub mods either). His tone, passion, and lets be honest, terrible comedy is what kept people coming back. Miss the guy and his videos a lot, I'll always have a separate executable for the last update he was apart of with the team

Those are good games and i like empire building but i also need my fix of 1000's of units actually fighting it out.
I’ve been playing DaC since I think v2.2 or 3.0, so many years. It’s a fantastic mod, I highly recommend. Sad to think many people just finding it won’t even know who Galu is, he’s the main reason it’s gotten so good and stayed around for so long. My dream is med2 remastered and a DaC port.
Galu gone ( Not R.I.P. ) but not forgotten ! Just got this version installed and miss his overview videos.

I feel Pharaoh is a "filler" game and we'll get a Remaster then a full Historical title from CA's main team.
I can't see CA missing the opprtunity of turning out a Med2 remaster before giving us a Med3 . But i could be wrong.

Indeed, i've been around since 0.56. Try AGO it's a submod of DaC and even better i'd say including a breathtaking strategy map

Playing as the Dunedain, it can be really tough with enemies coming at you at almost every angle but it's fun and definitely a challenge.
That's definitely a fan favourite. Playing as Angmar in v4.6 i had soooooooo much trouble taking down the ND.
In my current Dunedain campaign at one point I was fighting angmar, dunland, enedwaith, Moria and ered luin who decided to go evil all at the same time
The custom voices are the biggest thing for me. I can't think of any other Total War that you can do that with

They used to be mostly from BFME i think 🤔
I love hearing the gondorian voice lines from BFME, it's so nostalgic and at times hilarious. Like when the tower guard guy says "cowards!" when a settlement of yours is under siege
I'm just always so blown away by modding communities like this. Using their free time to work one something like this so we can have what CA can't give us, all for free.

TW just needs to hire this team and get the rights. What the DAC team continues to do is unreal and they deserve all the attention they can get.
You can also add the Engine Overhaul Project (which will be integrated directly into the mod for v6) for a lot of modern Total War quality of life things. Such as: forcing the AI to merge stacks so they dont spam single unit armies, auto sorting of unit cards in armies, and modern TW-style auto-replenishment/desertion. It's extremely easy to install and use.
I finished short Rohan campaign a few days ago on previous sub-version from Discord. It was very immersive. I had a lot of fun as well. During the playthrough, I think I faced one or two crashes to desktop, but no problems beside that.
Now I am playing Isengard long campaign on the new 5.0 version. As of now, I almost conquered Enedwaith and defeated the Last March of Ents. There were no crashes so far!
Guys, I highly advice you to play this mod! Trust me, it is worth it so much!

@janponiedziaek827 , you receive a couple of warning messages before their stack spawns near Isengard (currently this event is tied to the amount of cities you control). Then, when condition is met, they spawn as independent army and attack you on THEIR turn (you can't attack them first). I simply prepared for that event and had a lot of anti-armor units stationed in the Isengard ring (Uruk Reavers with two handed axes and half orcs-with two handed maces, also I had a unit of trolls just for the fun of it). Tree cutters do the job just fine. But you need quite a few of repel the onslaught. First Ents breach the wall using their catapults, then they charge in wreaking havoc. I had a full stack at the ready and it was quite easy to cut them down. But if you are caught unawares for role-play reason or simply because you did not prepare, their attack could be devastating. My campaign and battle difficulty is set on HARD.

Imagine if the Tolkien estate gave CA the rights on the condition that they did LOTR Total War in the style of Larian Studio's development. Long, epic projects where they really nail it down and create something special. We'd end up with a Total War game that people would be playing decades from now.
As long these modders are hired, sure. Otherwise, it's impossible. Larian's company structure is nothing like CA.
@@theyellowarchitect4504 First of all, it is not impossible. You just don't see it being possible. Secondly, modders are NOT game developers and hiring them does not improve or reduce the chance of a titles success. Do you have any idea how many people have entered and left the DAC team in the time they have been making this mod? It isn't just 6 committed people with a record of game development working together. Over 20 people have had their hand involved in the making of the mod, many of them with very different skill sets and levels. And modding a game is NOT the same as making a game from scratch. You can have all the guides you want on hand, the work load is drastically different and while modding is not simple (usually), it is FAR easier than making a game from nothing.
@@christopherpoet458 I am a game developer, and started via modding, so I know about modding and making a game. I also have experience working under a software corporation.
You undermine those 20 modders who worked on DAC. The workflow is utter shit since it's basically a hack with no supported tools or someone working fulltime on them.
The reason I said it's impossible is because of what is done to warhammer 3, there is no direction, nor consistency. Seeing some director interviews is very helpful too, as the model is opposite of japanese directors who dictate everything.
So basically, just like they hired the modders from GCCM, they can surely hire these DAC modders and within 4 months pump out great work.
Leave that all aside, its minor stuff. The serious reason it's impossible? SEGA. First, not even the director has full power over development or resources allocated. Lots of middling (see price of latest DLC) and executives are fucking up constantly (see Hyenas or Pharaoh)
By extension of the above, there is no way a LOTR game can be made with polish and love. And yes, DAC is not an excellent game, but it has soul. Impossible for a Total War: LOTR which will be a bootleg clone of Total War: Warhammer

Besides, at least I have chosen to make an effort to engage and add to conversations. Your greatest accomplishment so far is a sad attempt of an insult. Go a head, Keep count. Awesome! Heard about DAC but wasn't interested because I had already played Third Age TW through and through when it was released back in 2009. So it's been a decade so I guess it's a good time to get back to it.
Wow! A lot of exciting things are happening these days! The Tsardoms team released their brand new late campaign and now we get an update to DAC too? We're really getting spoiled by our modders! Just last month we got an update for SSHIP too and EB2 is probably nearing a release as well...

This is actually the best total war fun ive ever had, and I love them all. Some more than others yes, but still. To all you watching this that have not tried DAC med 2 yet. The graphics of this video of the battles do not do it justice. They look MUCH MUCH better when you yourself load it up and turn all the graphics on, It looks terrible in comparison in this video ( which is not the terminators fault ) but it looks MUCH better in game.
Finally! I have been hoping to see a little revamp for the human kingdoms. It has been a long time since i played DaC. I am definitely hoping in a campaign tonight!

Moria will rise again as the shining and rich dwarf city it once was. For Durin! I really hope for Dawnless Days. it does not matter for me how long it takes for the campaign. we have all this beautiful lotr-mods in the TW-Series. TLDis my favourite but i think its time to dig out DC agin.
i was the 40 something download and i havent been able to put it down i havent been so hooked on this game since its earlyier iterations back when i had a potato and it had a hard time with large battles with this mod but now im glad they finally completed it they immediately get my mod of the year vote
This came out while i was without power/internet due to a Super Typhoon, we're still having brown outs even after power was technically restored. However i did manage to get it installed last night, soon i'll have some gameplay up. Now who to play as 1st 🤔 that's always a tough question !
Truly a fantastic mod with what was perhaps the most welcoming of communities (though I couldn't comment on how things are now since I haven't engaged with the community for just less than a year). Though, judging by insider information, V6.0 is not likely to happen though some work will probably be done, so that's a bummer.
To be fair, the modders are reaching their peek of what they could do with the game at this point and there is still a lot of mystery going around the possibility CA will remaster Medieval 2, to which we know that if this happens the DAC tam will be transitioning the mod from OG to Remastered. The most they could do now is patch up the mod and MAYBE add in campaign alternatives. But beyond that, I don't expect much more from DAC.
V6 is already in the works, new Dale units have already been previewed along with the adoption of EOP 😁👍

Btw Tsardoms Total war has released their new campaign in the 15th century- The fall if Constantinople . It has updated map, new models and factions, events and units. It's a great new edition and a great overhaul. Check it out!

Been playing DaC since versions before v1. Gosh, I poored an immeasurable amount of hours into it through all these years. Thousands. This mod is something else, can't have enough of it and still play it

Med 2 runs single threaded so most modern cpu’s with low GHz cores can struggle a bit in med 2
Not sure about crashes but its got its own launcher so I’m sure some performance issues have been addressed at least
There haven't been crashing problems for probably 3 years...version 4.5 was incredibly stable..of course if you don't follow install instructions and do the LAA script you might still have issues.

I am playing this wonderful mod on my phone through AnyDesk. The USB Hub mouse and keyboard work surprisingly well. Favorite Total war game in my pocket!😝

I loved the Lord the Rings MED 2 back in the day. It's been so many years now though and the game itself has shown its age. I can't play the game anymore. I wish we would get a full remaster without ruining the possibilities of the previous mods to transfer. Along with being easy to refresh for the new graphics.

Anyone knows how DAC 5.0 fares against DAC 4.6 with AGO submod? I've been playing that for ages and it's amazing, and I don't really know if I should make the jump to vanilla DAC 5.

Lord of the Rings total war is actually older than even Third Age I am pretty sure, It was originally made for Rome Total War
Me trying to download this mod 8 times and still could not get it to work damn
I loved the mod before, I really did, but I can't handle the old mechanics, graphics, camera etc. Haven't been able to do for a while. Waiting for the proper mod in the modern games (not one close enough to being a full thing, like you've said).
Dawnless Days is getting there but yeah nothing fully complete yet

I hope CA has taken notice! We deserve to forge a new arnor and build through ages as Aragorns kids.
But also because I imagine dac's people would make an amazing game, a strategy equivalent to Baulders Gate 3 success.
I like your enthusiasm, but to compare modders to the skills required to develop a game is ignorant. Modding a game is one thing. Way easier than having to build one from the first line of code to a full functional title. They are not the same by any stretch and being a good modder does not make one a good game developer.
Secondly, it would not matter if CA took notice or not. CA can't just walk in, produce an official LOTR title and call it a day without the proper legal permissions from Middle-Earth Enterprises (formally Tolkien Estates). And if MEE took notice, they probably do not feel there is any need to push for or allow an official title if the game basically already exists as a mod.

I supposed what I mean is I miss the days when companies produced an artist or group of content creator's work, not just mass producing factory style work.
People like the DAC team are driven to make a quality product because they make a vision of theirs come to life, and thats amazing! That was what brought Medieval 2 and Rome out of the Ether.
So yeah, i guess I agree. A modder and a game developer have different workloads, so different skills are required.
I just think they're really neat, and I am gonna think that their team is capable of amazing things constantly because their team is a community thar encompasses more than just the modders of the team themselves, but several sub modders, not to mention fans.
They have the perfect network for real time playtesting and their discord is regularly updated. I think they have what most developers lack:
A connection with the community of their fanbase.
I just want that from a developer more.

But there are a lot of people in the comments that treat these two different fields as if they are the exact same thing. But hay, no hard feelings. I miss a lot of old titles because they kept a good quality like DAC.

Yeah bit odd, i've been playing v4.6 and knew v5 was out for a while but wanted to finish my campaign. Maybe the Discord version was a beta ? and it's now "live" on Discord and MODDB 🤔

@@TheTerminatorGaming Most of the features you mentioned were in the beta for quiet some time, but you are technically correct, so you get the thumbs-up from me. If you want to mention things added in since the beta, I believe it was shattered alliances submod, moddb downloadability, and the launcher features at startup but I could be missing something.

Ufff man,i love the Middlemen Culture and being Neutral Good,not allied with Gondor or Rohan,but commerce with Dwarf and Elves,playing Enedwaith is good
We are the fighting Uruk-Hai and even do we get no love from the devs we will still Rule middle earth for the White hand and feed on manflesh

Cool feature that would hopefully get into the Med II remaster, you can at least rename Generals and settlements.

When showing DAC, maybe do not use third age reforged footage? Or at least mention it.
So will Arnor include Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur?
I haven't tried the latest version but there were regional units from Arthedain and Cardolan available to the Dúnedain of the North (Aragorn's faction). Rhudaur, while not a faction, was allied to the Shadow (specifically Angmar which got some Rhudaur units), but once Angmar was defeated there was an event which made Rhudaur units available to the Dúnedain in the rough area where Rhudaur was. I'd assume none of this was removed.

While playing on previous version from discord I used to have a couple crashes during my short Rohan campaign that I successfully finished. Now I am playing Isengard in new version and yet to experience a crash. But I guess it still might happen in the future. Still, I think the mod is in stable condition now.

That and much more is included in Warhammer I-III total war, which supports workshop. Its perfect for a LOTR mod. Can anyone tell if devs of the mod have considered switching to Warhammer? If so, what are the arguments against it, except it's a lot of effort, or even means starting form scratch. Wouldn't it be worth it?
You can only make Warhammer mods for the Warhammer games, it's in the EULA for the game and the restriction is set by Warhammer owners.

The first few DAC version is based on third age, but the newer version is standalone. And yes I think DAC is miles better with QOL improvement, custom battle maps, custom unit models and general
Med II is more than a decade old and is still the best game in the franchise
The game crashes every time I enter a fight with Sauron. The one time I tried to auto resolve just to avoid the crash, I lost the battle as expected but the numbers were ridiculous

Big pain in the ass, and I have looked for updates/solutions but I am not very tech savvy and haven't found any yet... so I am stuck not being able to finish the campaign...
