Absolutely agree with uping the minimum. There is no need to take 27 cm flathead, there is very little meat on such a fish. I think 30-35 is a much more appropriate minimum
Thanks Ricky, yeah id love to start chasing cod aswell. Within 2 hours of Melb cod are only starting to grow traction. I caught some at melton Res this year. I really need to travel up to the Murray and put some hours into it. Hope to cover that some time soon.
lots of great tips there. just wondering though what do flathead look like on the sounder since they are lying on the bottom? Are there bait fish above them?
You dont really tend to mark up flathead in traditional mode as they hold the bottom tightly. I more look for bait in the area, and cover ground and mark waypoints and that seems to do really well for them
Great video and love the tips and info provided. Now it it is Winter, guessing the Flatties are away on winter holidays: when do you recommend is best time to head back out to find some Flatties?
The flatties have been really funny this year, usually locally they fire between Jan and April this year they fired between Feb to June and just started to go a bit quiet now.
Great video and so enjoy using those flathead luires I agree with you about Bag and size limits Have a look at our NSW SIZE and bag limits Othere wise overfishing and halling is going to eventually be all our own undoing then its too late 👌
Thanks !! Much appreciated. Nah I've temporarily put the electric motor away as I really need the exercise. The peddles help keep me in shape and I'm not getting any younger.
Hey Alan you probably won’t respond but what’s ur thought on going the flat edge 60. You get 8 in a pack and more colour options because in the 80s most are sold out except the pink berry and glow?
I try to respond to all the messages, so always feel free to leave a comment. Honestly I haven't used the FlatEdge 60's yet. I was told the 80s will be back in stock in about a week. The 60s should also work fine. I just find in areas with small flathead and pinkies that I like the slightly bigger profile plastics to try and avoid some of the smaller pest fish. Mind you I caught my biggest snapper on a 6cm soft plastics so anything's possible
Yep okay thanks for responding I’m just starting to get back to fishing again and I love ur content. I bought some 80s anyway so we will see what happens.
I have been doing a lot of fishing in east Gippsland because that’s where I live so bream and flatties r definitely here. I’ll get back to you to tell you how I go. Great content mate
Crazy session mate, I can't believe those things works so well and how many double hook ups you managed to get just slowly drifting 😂. How far do you go out in your yak? Too spooky for me haha
Thanks Wilson, yeah I was surprised too they worked great. Usually I go out about a kilometre to about 4-6 meters deep. Haven't had to many nasty encounters a couple of shark encounters out of hundreds of trips.
Not a good way to do things, the 1s that are just size are the best 1s to keep, they have the best flavour and its the most sustainable way of fishing them, anything over 45-50cm is female breeders. Should only keep between legal and 40cm
That's a cool soft bait you've got there sir 👍
Thanks 👍

The planes are the secrete, every time a plane goes over you get a fish 👌🏽
Ahh, maybe I never thought of that. Good pick up !!
A flathead lure catching flatheads, make me a tuna lure plz. Very glad to watch your fishing session.
LOL I agree 100%, maybe we should make some tuna soft plastics too.
Winter ripper warm days pure magic for fish. Big big shoals of herring big as the palm of y hand.
Great video Alan, would like to see you one day target Murray Cod, seems not alot of cod on your channel.
Stupid freshwateries these some thing called bass channels

@@fishingmad Would be great if you checked out the Loddon River system, cairn Curran, lanacoorie, plenty have been stocked over the last few years!
Great video as always Alan
Many thanks Sam !!

Brilliant session Alan. Got me chewing at the bit to get out and go fishing. Pity I am an apartment dweller 😕
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope you can get out on the water some time soon.

Where is this mate? Looks like north shore croup bay ?
Werribee
Full on fishing here nice grunter 650mm plus snapper and big blue trout up to 10kg.
Hey Alan, just wondering what fish you might still target in the colder months out on the yak
Always good to see you out on the Kayak. Did you retire your electric motor?
Thanks !! Much appreciated. Nah I've temporarily put the electric motor away as I really need the exercise. The peddles help keep me in shape and I'm not getting any younger.
Where you out at portland the other day allan?
Sunday ?
Hi Jamie, Nah I was at Hopkins on Sunday and back to Melb Mon. Hoping to get back up to Portland in a few weeks and chase some big Tuna.

Awesome !! Hope ya catch plenty with them
We’re about are you in the bay
I explained in the vid where i was fishing and all the techniques used. This was filmed around werribee drifting in 5 meters deep. Thanks
@@fishingmad thanks I uploaded it before I watched that part
What’s those soft plastics?
Hey Brad, it ran through all the details in the vid. Sothern Edge Lures, Flat Edge 80 in tan colour. Cheers
They do have teeth and very sharp teeth
it said this vid had no views
I think you may have been the first !!

Don’t they have to be 40 to keep now?
Or are these not Duskys in this video
These were just standard flathead caught in the video. Legal min size is 27cm and bag limit of 20. Cheers
Those planes have seen the fishingmad sign on your yak Alan and honing in on your fishing marks 🙂🙂🛫🛬
LOL Its no secret I think most people know the spot. drifting around werribee no shortage of good flathead
Yes just joking mate 😂
