I think lots of people would be interested. Salem has made some nice improvements in the 14 years I have lived here and I think sometimes long time residents forget about some of the nice changes.
Thank you for posting this. My wife and I are planning to move to Salem next year. I fell in love with Oregon years ago. I am so glad to finally be making it my home. This video expresses perfectly, just how excited we are to see and do all the city and and the state have to offer.
Well done!!! I have two hours of video of Salem that I filmed in the summer of 1995. I shot it with future viewing in mind ( all of the changes in businesses and the like) Thinking of uploading it on here.I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in watching "near vintage Salem"?
Rootdown has great music. I love this song too. You need to come back and visit as Salem has changed a lot since you were here. The Riverfront Park didn't exist when you grew up here.
I was born I Salem in 1960. I think I lived there until age 3 before my folks moved us. I haven't been there since but it does look like a very nice small city.
Im 20, and thinking of moving here to Salem, Oregon from El Paso, Tx to start life on my own, Im hispanic. Would I encounter any difficulties? Honestly.
Love the video! Was wondering if we could use it at my church to welcome people? We would include a video greeting either before or after and of course include your credits. :) Thanks!!!
Left in 62, went into the Air Force, didn't come back till 92. Lived in Keizer until 07, when I moved to southern Oregon. You may laugh but one of the things I really miss is Padington's Pizza..I lived in Salem from 44 to 62, moved 9 times..Lived out on the Spong's Landing Farm, before it was a park. My Dad was the head of the Cherrians marching group, back in the 50-60's and Exalted Ruler of the old Elks Club, when it was down town. I steamed up my car windows in the North Salem Passion Pit LOL
Yeah you should move here! You should have no problem living here because Salem is pretty diverse. And we do have quite a large Hispanic population here!
The video is embeddable so as long as you use it that way, that is fine. You can play it on a computer or hook a computer up to an Apple TV. You can't record it though and edit in a video introduction. The music is copyrighted and I only have a license to use it for this use. I don't have the right to redistribute the music.
Where to live is a personal choice. Personally I would never live in Seaside, Newport or Bend but I like to visit there. I love Bend but can't stand the dry heat. I agree that Salem isn't for everyone. It is a very family oriented city so there aren't clubs or nightlife here. It is a slow paced city and definitely not a travel destination. I find plenty to do in the city but I do realize that some people want a hip vibe like Portland, but we don't have that here.
Oh there were a lot of things about Salem that didn't get in there. It isn't meant to be all encompassing in just one song. Just a hint of Salem, if you will. :)
***** You are welcome to contact your friends at the ACLU if you have concerns. The first section of the video is the World Beat Festival which has many diverse faces in it. There is WBF footage later which does as well. This was shot over a couple of days. My videographer shot who was working in stores and such at the time they were there. They didn't go looking or not looking for different ethnic groups. He didn't stop and ask people their ethnic heritage to make sure he hit some quota. If it is offensive to you that there weren't any obviously Hispanic people working in the stores at the time my videographer popped in there, then you are offended.
+Abe C its a great place to live if u move here i would consider liveing in keizer much quieter and peaceful and right next to salem just north a mile dont move near Lancaster Road in less u like hearing cops all night I love it here And thank you for your service
You should really check out the rest of Oregon first..Salem has a lot of crime and drugs going around , Also not much to do or see but it is close to some cooler places. I have lived in Seaside,Eugene,Portland,Newport,Bend and Salem....Salem has all the big city problems with none of the benefits of being in a big city like Portland, anyway good luck with moving and all.
If you are looking for conservative, the west coast generally isn't the place. Salem is one of the more conservative cities in Oregon, but the west coast is generally liberal.
Good there I can't believe that into the 21st Century there is still so much rascism and ignorance, I mean my ancestors ultimately come from Europe too. Thats true I didn't know that before, the climate and scenery over there is beautiful though!
first of all Im not mexican i'm hispanic , and over here we do not tend to be enslaved by personal laziness and drug addiction. Maybe you should get up and get a degree like I did.
The only reason why I wanted to move up over there from Texas is because I cant stand the weather here I need a colder climate. But from what I have researched theres alot of homosexuals and drug addict kids over there and thats not my scene, I have a degree and I dont want to waste my time being around those people. I want to find a place with asthetics and normal conservative people as here in the South/Southwest.
You will likely have trouble finding a job since we have a high unemployment rate due to the recession, but if you are asking if you will have racial issues, we have a large Hispanic population in Salem. You may face some nasty people but that is true of any place you live.

Well I extend an almost welcome to Oregon! Thanks for watching my video about my city. We look forward to you moving to our state.
Wanted more sun down in Southern Oregon? It is some gorgeous country down there.
I know several folks that are just as enamored with their pizza.
Thanks! I was really happy with the final result.
