- BASECK shreds a #3MODULECHALLENGE using
VARIGATE 8+, VOLTAGE BLOCK and BASIMILUS ITERITAS ALTER.
All Voltage Block cv outputs and one gate out from Varigate 8+ and cv to all inputs on the BIA. The Voltage Block is slaved the Varigate 8+ and taking advantage of the preset functions etc. BIA responsible for all noise.

The little breakdown is so good
This is clearly one of the coolest demos I've ever seen. I understand I need to spend a lot more time with my Basimilus....
#me too
Wow. 1 module essentially makes kicks, snares, toms, basslines and leads. Brilliant use of the Malleko twins!
and did i hear something that sounds like side chain compression in there when the kick happens?
yeah the BIA is beyond nuts.
Such a sick demo. The BI really comes to life with the Varigate 8+ and Voltage Block driving it. My combo is in the mail and I can't wait to start sequencing my system with these.
Just received my combo today. Very exciting about the possibilities.
That was pretty awesome!
You guys are one of my favorite companies
baseck could make a rundown on this. would be great to learn from the experts!
Haha, I thought to myself that this sound a lot like baseck and then I saw his face at the end. So sick
OMFG, just stumbled on this, it's SO good, and really shows the versatility of the BIA. well frikkin done!!!!!!!
VB is easily one the best cv sequencers for eurorack. So many features packed into such a simple ui
That's amazing. I got a BIA but I'm not getting that out of it, inspiring .
wicked guys! really shows how powerful the storage can be! woot :D
Amazing demo!
So amazing!!!!
This was so sick!
So here I am, with multiple drum modules, thinking I know what I'm doing...
Nope. You come along with just the BIA, 8+ and VB... and sound better than my mess.
Impressive!
man, that's just sick!
WOOOOOOW THIS IS AMAZING
waouh very good jam!
BASECK: God of Drums
YO THIS DUDE BASECK'S NEW EP IS FUCKING AWESOME IT HAS INFECTED ALL OF MY SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS #RAVE
straight up impressive
Geeez ... Baseck Went in on those Melakkos :O
YEAH for the Modular Podcast #3modulechallenge
That's nuts!
Impressive!
incredible good
that is next level
So sick.
Nice!
Total win
Well there goes another paycheck
dope!
Insane
Oh great now I need all three of these 🤦🏽♂️
1:37 DAMNN!!!!
fvcking awesome!
Minchia spettacolo
1:00 Dope
1.10 soooo Nice
fkn insane almost made me cry 😂
I wish varigate had 6gates and 4cvs. Love mine even it has weird issues these days, voltages leaking between channels and first channel light is on all the time.
Seriously. This was sik!
Woah!
I have the Voltage Block and one complaint is that I can't see what note the CV is outputting. Can I use the varigate 8+ to see the CV note values on its LED display?
I need this.
wowwwww
Would it be similare to do with 2x varigate 4+ ? Less HP and less expensive for similare result ? The varigate 8+ seem overkill just to modulate a basimilus
Baseck? More like Baesck!
wait... how do the two modules sync? I have them both and noticed the other day that voltage block doesn't need a clock from varigate to follow it. i press the play button on Varigate and voltage block follows and they're on two different rows in my case! what is this black magic?
Those extra pins on the 16 pin power vs the 10 pin power.
There's 5v, CV & gate in them wires.
Yew sportin some OG shit on that watch Mowfow? Just wonderin....Bizzzzzatch!
can the two modules be connected in the back? How are they running in sync? I don't see anything patched in the clock input of the Voltage Block...
connect both to the same bus and then set the voltage block to "slave". check out the vb manual pg.12 for more info! malekkoheavyindustry.com/content/uploads/2017/02/Malekko-Voltage-Block-ManualV1.5.pdf
oh my god
oh my
Can someone explain how the varigate is being used here? to be honest I don't really understand the difference between varigate and voltage block. Great demo btw
The names of the modules are really self explaining. In general Varigate 8+, is a 8 channel probability gate/trigger sequencer while the + means the to cv channels and the voltage block can generate and save on 8 channels control voltages. The first one is best for drums and trigger events and the second one is for modulation with or without scales within the eurorack typical range of 0-5 V. Together they match perfect, the 8+ is the master module and the preset system for them both. Towards your specifique question, he is triggering with one gate channel the BIA and the 9 other cv channels control the modulations of the different parameters. All the sequences seem to be preprogrammed, this is why he switches the patterns with the varigate.A really clever idea of building up this kind of perfect matching sequencers with a shared memory. In total, together they have 10 Cv channels and 8 gate channels, enough for a small to medium sized system.
So the voltage block is modulating BIA via CVs, while the varigate is the trigger of the sequence? Am I understanding it right? Grr looks like I must have both for BIA!
Almost right, there is also one cv out from the 8+. The benefits of having both is u can save the presets for both sequencers and recall them. The connection is through the internal bus connection. But u can take any other clock or trigger signal as well. I like the options of triggering in the steps and adjust them a bit on the fly. I would say it really depends on the way u like to sequence stuff. I am more the kind of guy who is jamming, for this reason i like them both. But especially the voltage block can be paired with any other source, u just need to put in a clock and that's it. What i dislike most on the 8+ is the position of the jacks, it really sucks if u use almost all the trigger outs, the cables cover the sliders.
Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I would really like to get the pair if I could afford it... I am looking into Mimetic Digitalis as an alternative. It looks like it can save presets, has 4 CVTrigger outs and looks good for jamming. I wonder if it lacks way too much on the outputs though, when you compare to voltage block.
If you had the option, would you get:
2x Varigate 8+ sequencers, or
1x Varigate 8+ and 1x Intellijel Metropolis, or
1x Varigate 8+ and 1x Makenoise Rene
3 of each. At least
depends what you need it for. varigate 8 and voltage block are an amazing combo like in the video. rene is a fun one too though. i have all three, and i usually use rene for melodic parts, and varigate+voltage block for drum gates and parameter changes
💗💀💕
Ace
can't dance to it...but you can gyrate to it - it's a hit!
Instant Yuzo Koshiro!
Baseck makes me feel incompetent...lol. How do you couple the voltage block to Varigate 8+? Just in slave mode and clock from Varigate into voltage block? Change jumper setting on back and done? Or does it need a cable on the back connecelling the two? Thanks for your help!
510th bus sync
@@AnxiousCowboy ....so then there is a need for some shorty cable? are they standard? thanks for the help..
@@510th connect both to the same bus and then set the voltage block to "slave". check out the vb manual pg.12 for more info! malekkoheavyindustry.com/content/uploads/2017/02/Malekko-Voltage-Block-ManualV1.5.pdf
@@AnxiousCowboy "to the same bus" meaning a short cable from the VB to the Varigate, or just to the same power board? I'm dense as hell apparently and neither came with a short cable.. thanks for your continued help though.. I'm still learning many modules ins and outs.. these two I own and hope to pair this spring..
510th power board. What PSU/case you running?
holy fuckin shit!
How is this patched? I see 11 cables going into the BIA, but only 8 cables coming out of the Voltage Block and 2 cables coming out of the Varigate. How's the 11th cable connected?
that would be the output
@@markshephard909 haha thanks
Can you show how this was patched up. I have the same setup and I'm lost.
Read the fucking manuals or learn synthesis
@@wewillrise3663 Piss off
@@JapanoiseBreakfast Yes I piss on you if you insist...
Seriously buying the same module doesn't guarantee you can do the same things, this is experience, knowing your gear and making the gear extension of yourself. That being said reading a manual and knowing your modules comes from experience.
learning about synthesis and actually understanding what's happening here is part of anyone who want to get good at this craft.
This guy obviously knows his modules like the back of his hand. A lot of time and practice went into that. Apart from designing the actual modules which helps a lot.
Have fun and enjoy the journey...But do read the manual and learn about synthesis.
goddamn...
I don't completely understand how this is working, can anyone shine some techno light on it please?
What in particular are you wondering about? I only have one of these modules (the Voltage Block) but I have a general understanding of what's being done here so maybe I can help?
@@jasonausmus8964 Is the Varigate simply for gate triggers (rhythm) and the Voltage Block is doing the "knob modulation"?

Someone has to do this with the DFAM
If only! JK, Here: vimeo.com/252428896 Same guy, Baseck who is... I want to say, martian maybe?
I have the DFAM, the varigate 4+ and the voltage block now but they do not interact as good as this setup
Nigel Dubois user error
monophonic, but amazing demo of the voltage block and a single drum module.
Bro is this filmed on a boat xD
lmaoo
Jesus.
Nice!
