    This is the clearest explanation I've seen of how this sequencer works. For the first time ever I "get it". Thanks!

    Thank you for this video - sequence vs. steps vs. slider made sense after watching the first couple of minutes. I may actually like my VB now. :)

    great vid btw. Got me up and running with this really quick. Loving the VB. :)

    Checking your website I saw your tutorial on hooking up Bitwig and Reaktor to a Eurorack system, as I was watching that video I realized this is how I first became aware of your tutorials. I got to this clip via Modulargrid - small world.

    Great tutorial, mine comes tomorrow and trying to get an idea of how it works. Thanks for keeping in the "learning experience" moments --- I'm sure I would have done the same and not noticed two different random buttons :)

    I'm really excited to get mine soon to pair with the V8+. I've been looking for an easier way to have many clock divided sequences, and also modulate my drum modules per-step easier. Also a ER-301 coming soon, so I'll need all the modulation I can get.

    I found your video to be EXTREMELY helpful. You broke down the WHOLE PATCH! Thank you for that, as I've NEVER encountered another video where the whole patch was revealed, except a few videos who's goal was to create patch from scratch. I just ordered mine yesterday, and this is now the most involving module in my gear. That's awesome how you've revealed the method for entering values per-step/sequence and just played through everything naturally, and taught a lesson that I'm guessing is very appropriate for someone like me. Now I'm stoked to get this puppy hooked up to my Tip Top Z3000, which can display frequencies (or notes if you want), and should be both interesting and helpful. Thank you for sharing your helpful knowledge.

    Hmm I don't like the idea of using an extra module just for gates. Would be nice if the voltage block could switch the channels to gates/cv like the Varigate4+

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  4 года назад

      I agree the Varigate4+ is a much more flexible module, but like every eurorack module there are a thousand and one ways to use it, and limitation are often only sources of inspiration.

    Great seeing you branch off the Ableton stuff and start focusing more on Modular. I watched you previous videos for technique although I use Bitwig and found them helpful. Watching this intro to the Voltage Block has me wishing I'd buy it to keep my new Varigate 8+ company, but first I need a bigger case - age old story!

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  7 лет назад +1

      +Quantum Space haha! Yup, that sage advice of "buy a case bigger than your wildest dreams" is never wrong. I built my own "overflow parking" case with the 4ms Power Row 40 and some 104 rails, really cost effective and has given me the extra space I need (for now anyways). There are lots of great DIY case guides out there, but I'll probably try and throw one together on how I built mine. Also, I'm getting deeper into Bitwig myself. I love it! + Bitwig 2 looks like the ideal Modular DAW! So hopefully I'll be able to get some Bitwig videos out soon! Thanks for watching and thanks for the support!

      I'd love to see you do a video on building your own case. While I've seen others, it never hurts to learn even more. When I got my first 104hp/9U Weedywhizz case I knew I had plenty of room to grow. Then I picked up a 104hp skiff before I realized I'd just go ahead and get a twin of the Weedywhizz case. Two months ago I bought a twin skiff while at Control Voltage - how could I resist the Black Friday sale, plus where would the modules I was buying go? Well that was 2016 for me. Now with 832hp of modular gear I have to ask, how much will I need to grow? So I'm looking to build a 208hp/21U case, but I wonder how in the world will 1,456hp ever be enough though after that I'll have to also consider a larger apartment :) Regarding Bitwig, I was customer 152 after it was released and signed up for the beta of 2.0 - I check my email and my account every hour looking for notification.

      +Quantum Space Wow! Let see some pictures/videos. Sounds like you've got a pretty monstrous setup. I'm doing the same thing w/ my email...Bitwig 2.0...so excited.

      I am looking at the VB as an alternative to the expensive Metropolis , it seems similar but if it has 8 separate sequencs as it looks , it is better vfm and 20 hp instead of 34 .
      Does it have swing or groove like the Metro ??
      Can you please explain what u mean by Matrix sequencer as the z8000 is also a possibility 4 me but people seem to use this one alongside the trigger riot and mainly for drum sounds, which I do not need right now as is also the case with the circadian rhythms.
      Could you please clarify this for me - thanks
      John Horrobin UK ( modular newcomer.)

      +JOHN HORROBIN have you checked out my other videos that look at the Voltage Block and Varigate 8+ more in-depth? If not, I'd recommend starting there.
      In brief, the VB and the Metropolis are very different.

    Excellent tutorial. Looks really powerful. Just wondering. Do the sliders only cover 1 octave?or can you change them for larger intervals?

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  7 лет назад

      +sunil solanki Each sequence has range of 5 volts.

    Can anyone answer me this odd question? I have a clock in to my voltage block from my bloom sequencer clock out, if I click shift and "rnd seq" it runs a random sequence. But if I click FWD it stops responding to clock even though the switch remains in "clk" position? I've not used the VB much yet and I think I may have put it into some mode where it doesn't respond to clock in for some reason? How do I get it back to normal?

  • @crappie050764
    @crappie050764 4 года назад

    Nice video. I have a question. So the the cv outs of the voltage block are going to the 1 v/oct of the oscillator, but the sequencer has no gate out like lots of the sequencers. So where do you connect the gate input of the enverlopes because they need a trigger ? Maybe stupid question but only the varigate 4+ can have cv and gate out combo

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  4 года назад

      The Voltage block is just a CV sequencer. So it is really best paired with a Gate sequencer like the Varigate 8+.

    Hi, great video! I wanted to know what are you using to send clock from ableton into your modular rig. Your clock is very tight going to the voltage block. I currently have Pamela's New Workout as my modular clock but it seems to be unstable sending clock to Ableton OR recieving clock from Ableton. Thanks.

  • @motoboy6666

    You cant get gates or trigs for ADSRs out of it as of now right? An 2-4 hp expander for this would have been great.

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  7 лет назад +2

      +motoboy6666 You can use any channel to trigger anything by setting some steps high and others low. Or just use the VB as a complex envelop generator. The Varigate 8+ is this modules companion gate sequencer, but I agree, for smaller rigs it would be nice to just have a small gate expanded for the VB.

    You know that problem you had at the start< with the sequence starting in the wrong place? well I have a similar problem every time I restart the sequence. The sequence starts from where it left off rather than at the start. Did you have this problem? if so how did you fix it? I've tried setting it to clock and slave mode and the same ting. Any help would be great. Thanks

    yeh just unboxed mine and no screws. First Malekko module I've purchased but seems like none were with this one in the vid either so must be normal for them. Not a deal breaker but seems a little odd as everyone other manufacturer supplies 'em.

    • @DanielRDehaan
      @DanielRDehaan  6 лет назад

      +unid73 congrats on the your new module! Always an exciting day. Yeah, I agree most modules come with screws, but not all the time. I have even purchased a couple from the same manufacture at the same time and had some with screws, some without. But I like to use the little plastic washers to prevent rack rash, so I have to use extra long screws and most of the ones that come with the modules are too short, so...they just end up staying in the box anyways. Hope you enjoy your new module! (If you haven’t watched them already, I’ve got a couple other videos going over the basic functions.)
