I too love the Disney version; I watch it every Halloween. I like this version too, though. Christopher Walken joked that this film had his first on-screen kiss.
This is one of my favorite supernatural murder mysteries. I do love Tim Burton, his style is always fun I think. Did you notice that since everything was dark, gray he makes the blood bright red to stand out? He does the same thing in Sweeny Todd. Johnny Depp is fun as a whimsical and goofy character.
You said , Why aren't Poe's stories adapted more. Maybe you should check out Roger Cormans films from the early 60's. They are really atmospheric and very stylish for their low budgets..
Fun reaction Kay. Your response to the fainting was hilarious. It's a fun movie, and one of my favorite Tim Burtons. I know he's not for everyone, but I like most of his movies. For Eddy Poe, the old Roger Corman Vincent Price collaborations are great. If you start with House of Usher, and go chronologically by production date, you'll see the sets becoming more elaborate. They reused and rearranged the sets from previous movies and added what the budget would allow with each new movie.
As some have pointed out, the Disney version is the only ACCURATE version of Washington Irving's story: Here, when the locals prank Ichabod in the middle of the film, that's where Irving's story ended, as it was implied there was no Horseman, and Brom Bones wanted to scare his superstitious rival for Katrina out of town. But from there, like other Tim Burton adaptations (ahemwonka), we enter the pure-imagination realm of Made-Up Crap. 😛
Loved the Disney version. Tim Burton wanted to pay respect to Classic Monster/ Hammer Horror Films, which is the reason why it's like black, white, and heavy red on the blood. It's pretty great storytelling in changing the lead characters' job as an detective and it has an outstanding cast. R.I.P, Michael Gambon (Dumbledore), Richard Griffiths( Uncle Veron), Micheal Gough( Alfred), and Christopher Lee( Dracula). Fun Fact #1: Stuntman Martial artist Ray Park( Darth Maul) was the fight double Horseman. Fun Fact #2: The opening scene was filmed near the real Sleepy Hollow. Fun Fact #3: Katrina's dress at the end is the same stripes of Beetlejuice costume from Beetlejuice(1988). I counted 7 faints 😅. I could be wrong.
I love the Disney version too! Was hoping you hadn’t seen it yet so you could react to it :) Besides the frog croaking “Ichabod”, there is also the moment during the chase where he is riding the headless horseman’s horse backwards like the cartoon.
I enjoy Icabod as a cowardly hero. The funniest scene to me is when they approach the witch's hut and he puts his squire in front of him 🤣🤣🤣 There aren't enough cowardly heroes out there. Icabod, Brett Maverick, Shaggy & Scoob...
Fainting: Blood pressure in the brain drops suddenly and drastically in response to some stimuli and the brain loses consciousness. In this case, fear or a heightened emotional response causes a fight or flight response, the brain releases assorted chemicals that, complicated by the extremely tight clothing of the era, make the blood pressure drop suddenly and drastically. This is an oversimplification. 😅
There are some other nods to the Disney version mainly in the chase scene. When Ichabod hits the tree and lands on the Horseman's horse combined with him on the horse backwards with a POV of everything going that way. It's a little more subtle than the frogs croaking "Headless Horseman" but it's still a pretty neat reference.
Possibly the last time Burton's overbearing visual style felt appropriate. Sleepy Hollow was a fun film with enough silliness. Don't see enough people named Ichabod anymore, we need to bring it back.
The Disney version is not very accurate, because it depicts the horseman as an actual ghost, when the book makes it clear he is actually Brom Bones in disguise.
Rest in Peace, Michael Gambon (formerly Dumbledore and Van Tassel in this film). LOVED this version; just the most fun Tim Burton (and one of his best "Horror" films)
This movie is a must watch every Halloween for me. I like this so much it's just creepy and gruesome enough to peak my interest. Thanks, Kay. Btw I hope you are feeling much better after all the surgeries and what not. Love the channel! Be well❤ 😊

Why do they faint so much? Because they've never seen anything like these things, and it's olden times so they've never been desensitized before.
The shot that the book stopped was actually a musket-ball not a bullet
So it being round and not pointed the book could have actually stopped it.
Baby Johnny Depp followed by Christopher Lee who was born looking 80 years old and sounding like Discworld's Death.

One of my favorites seen so many times never gets old, thanks Kay!
Great reaction. If you want some Edgar Allen Poe adaptations, there is a series of movies with Vincent Price on most of them from the 60's.
It would have made this movie so much better if Ichabod would comically devour food like in the original tale, and yes, the Disney version.
Possibly the last time Burton's overbearing visual style felt appropriate.

Love this movie. But your right 😂 everyone does faint a lot
We have Rita Skeeter, Mr Dursley, Second Dumbledore, Palpatine...
And Alfred.
What about Jack Sparrows?! oh... Nevermind
Rest in Peace, Michael Gambon (formerly Dumbledore and Van Tassel in this film).
LOVED this version; just the most fun Tim Burton (and one of his best "Horror" films)
Another one of my favorites that got me into horror.
Well done Kay!
I hope you are feeling better, Kay! I miss your reviews. Good, wholesome reactions without vulgar language is so rare anymore
Great movie, great reaction.
Very good! You look great. Sound good too. Hope you are back forever ❤🎉

Rewatched it…I counted 7 faints
I hope you've done Edward Scissorhands too!!
For a moment, I thought this was the mediocre 1980 version with Goldblum - that was a TV film though. Good choice!
1st off, love the shirt! It was a very quasi take on the story, but I think they sold it. Was it the best scary movie, no. Was it still good? Yes.
I thought you were watching the version with Ed Beigley Jr. I am not going to watch the rated R version
Watch the DRAGONFLY of Kevin Costner
*promo sm*
Kay want to be my girlfriend 😮
