[4K] STORED PLANES at Prestwick Airport March 2020 | A340s 787s & More

- The world is currently in chaos as a once in a century event takes place. This has led to a significant drop in the demand for air travel. Airlines are now storing most of their fleets and accelerating the retirement of older aircraft types. Most airlines have cut their operations mostly or entirely, all because of this event. Prestwick Airport now has a ton of stored planes, Norwegian 787s, half of which are because of Trent issues and the other half because this event, 3 Virgin Atlantic A340-600s, which were withdrawn from service two months earlier, a number of Ryanair 737s and a few EasyJet Airbuses. Glasgow Airport also has a ton of stored planes. The Travel and Aviation industries are going through their darkest days, since air travel began in the early 1900s. The sooner this event blows over the better for everyone.
One thing to note about this video. I filmed this video handheld as it was easier, because most of the locations required a step ladder, making it nearly impossible to use my tripod.

Awesome footage Dan. I really do miss the Airbus A340-600s of Virgins and they haven't even been that long retired. Very nicely filmed as always mate.
It is a sad and very hard time in the industry. We all hope for the best soon.
Liked.
Thanks Jonathan. Yeah hopefully this virus disappears soon.
Beautiful shots, Dan. Especially loved the VA A340's. But an incredibly sad sight to see :(
Thanks Mylos, yeah it sure is.
Really is a sad sight to see these all stationary at PIK. Nicely put together video, liked!
Thanks for Watching :)
thank you for sharing this , very sad times it brings tears to your eyes . Let’s all hope that it is not too long before we see these beautiful aircraft fly again.
G-VFIT has been scraped sadly
Thanks for Watching :)
These are very uncertain times very worrying thanks for posting stay safe
Stay free, if we can ....
Thanks for Watching :)
Its an amazing video man! But its also sad to see!
Thanks for Watching :)
Sad to see the industry in such state of affairs, nice video as always Dan. Keep safe in these troubling times.
Thanks Robert, yeah its not great seeing the industry like this.
Great video mate
Thanks for Watching :)
Oh how cool! Prestwick have a bit of activity now, lucky them!
I wouldn't call "stored" aircraft activity.
Go to Prestwick and see the plane's laid up and stored and I can assure you that your see no "activity". What your see is stored aircraft, no movement of those stored aircraft, no noise from those stored aircraft, no passengers on those stored aircraft, no activity from those stored aircraft. Your witness stored aircraft laid up idle and lifeless with absolutely no sign of any activity.
I went to Bournemouth Airport on Sunday to see the 40+ aircraft laid up in storage and you could hear a pin drop, even the bird's seemed absent, I can assure you that there was no "activity" just silence!
Perhaps activity might have been the wrong choice of word to use!
Perhaps Different, Diverse, Variety would have been better options.
That is really a sad thing to see thank you for posting I did subscribe to your channel your videos are very nice👍👍👍
Thanks for Watching & Subscribing :)
shame that this is what it takes to fill PIK apron again. Good video, thanks for sharing. keep us updated when you can. Cheers
they are on the second runway - not apron. still a bit of activity at Prestwick
Thanks for Watching :)
Incredible
Thanks for Watching :)
Thank you Dan! I live in Bournemouth where Hurn Airport is and that is rapidly filling up with ‘resting’ British Airways aircraft. Incidentally, is the Fairey Gannet still on duty at HMS Gannet at Prestwick? The Gannet that stood for many years (alongside a Shackleton) as a gate guard at RNAS Lossiemouth has long gone and I think that the Gannet at HMS Gannet has been scrapped too. Many thanks for the videos. Rob.
I believe the Gannet was donated to museum in Dumfries. www.dumfriesaviationmuseum.com/fairey-gannet/
Me too.. seeing all our B747’s there was sad
Thanks for Watching :)
When does it all end
Sad to see. Bad times 😢
Interesting.
I have seen the Norwegian planes there before but im sure there was only 2
The A340s have left and are now at Bournemouth.
Has the Virgin A340 at the start of the video got a different kind of inboard engine? Looks a different shape at the back
Think it maybe just the angle of the shot and light
The reverser cowl of #3 engine is in the new Andaro livery, the rest of the aircraft is in the J2000 Mica livery, that is the original reverser the aircraft was delivered with but had been on (I seem to remember G-VEIL when it was originally repainted)
EasyJet A320s are in Prestwick for maintenance not storage.
Something tells me those virgin a346s might never go back into service as the purchase of the a350s is to replace them and the 744s.
Brownie.simon .... If Virgin doesn’t go bump in the meantime😳😞
They all flew to BOH today, not sure why though
You should see Roswell Air Center in the US,it’s packed completely with airplanes.
Yeah and it still is, even a few years after the pandemic. Thanks for Watching :)
We where so lucky we went to Cyprus on 29/2/20 for a week with jet 2 from Glasgow I do hope these companies brace the storm
I think the jet2 was training
So sad seeing those virgin A340-600 s just parked there so lifeless😭
Very very sad times for us aircraft lovers
I wonder if the dirty cruise liners will be laid up any time soon?
I live here in prestwick I have stood where you sand filming the first plane
Bournemouth looks like a car park with all the BA aircraft sitting laid up.
One by one!
Positive is, environment is improving, less pollution caused by everyday life.
I honestly can't bare to think those A340's could be scrapped. I hope they'll still be kept around in some way shape or form, maybe put on display or something.
Barney Ward why wouldn’t they be scrapped? The A340 was obsolete before it even went into service, it’s remarkable they survived this long.
They ended up with European cargo as Preighters, Thanks for Watching :)
Why were they there
Coronavirus - the New word for Static Display 😷 greetings from Germany- stay safe🍀
Thanks for Watching :)
Did the A340’s not go to European cargo in BOH ?
They did and are still in active service with them. Thanks for watching 😃
All 787 without engine! Why?
noodlehome they have serious design faults that need fixed
Trent engine issues. In at Chevron for maintenance.
Why do the Norwegian 787s have engines missing?
ronald white the 787s are at prestwick for diagnosis/refit of engines
Those 340 airbuses cant be very fuel efficient...you wonder if they will ever fly again
Man that's sad. So many airlines have to ground their 🐦🐦
Thanks for Watching :)
I don't understand only 15 years in services and now retired
Is this going to be the new plane spotting?
This is why 2020 is the WORST YEAR EVER For Aviation
2020 worst since world war 2.with the heartbreaking situation around the world ,to find a cure ,and save lives.
Interesting but sad sights.

Indeed, Thanks for Watching :)
Let's have faith, no matter who's your god, it is easter soon, resurrection, airlines will fly again and we will travel to meet friends around the world, Stay Safe, Enjoy Life, and what looks like and end is usually a new beginning,
A 340 - 600 = a very fuel inefficient aircraft
End of days for the A340s?
Yes its certainly looking like that, they just arent fuel efficient in todays economy. The 787 does the job at a huge saving.
@@leegearing3297 well all of the Norwegians 788 in Prestwick is there because of engine failure...
@@smoothflying That in itself has been disastrous for Rolls Royce and quite spectacular that such a brand could experience Blade Fatigue issues not discovered during Bed testing. Seriously damaging to Airlines productivity, Norwegian especially.
We cant say once in a century event. Only twenty years of this century passed.
Best use for PIK. Aircraft storage and maintenance. From a passenger point of view its a crap hole of an airport.
omg
Disappointing Prestwick now has no Corona stored aircraft, given these were moved to Bournemouth , plus other airports in south, where planes rammed in.! Are the airport being over zealous with the parking fee’s , not one aircraft has stayed, Prestwick could hold 100+ ( like it did for European Football finals in1976) !! ?
Everywhere else is offering free parking. PIK, quite rightly, isn't.
Why on earth are they giving free parking, what gain is there for the airports?
@@kenf8020 why shouldnt they offer free parking? with whats going on in the world its not about gain is it
Time for this planet to have a break
Ill go there in a few weeks to see them all takeoff.
Try 2 years!
NEW HOMELESS SHELTERS!
Looks like a old dinosaur, maybe it'll suffer the same fate ?
Think of all the fuel thats being saved!
I hope the aircraft will be properly chocked, locked and blanked for the duration
Great video, thanks! I have pics of a load of planes stored on my channel if you want to check it out.
Nice one, Thanks for Watching :)
