this issue could also have been happening due to loss of communication from the vss the pigtails can come loose and or the sensor it self becoming bad or bad. loss of communication can cause issues with the pcm relaying the information to the cluster for as the mileage is programed to the pcm and recorded and only displayed on the dash. all you would have to do is check the ground and ref voltage at the pigtails and check the sensor to rule out the cause of this. also i do have to agree some mechanic shops do not have fully trained employee's but sometimes diagnosing certain things it takes tricks that you cannot learn in a book ASE certified or not its something you learn along the way with time and a good team to work. just know not every mechanic shop is out to get someone there are good ones and there are the good ones with a few bad apples. im glad you did get your issue resolved.
Finally after 2 years,few mechanics,2 electrical and ford dealer on Stockport who charge me alot of money for guessing what's wrong.... I changed the clocks and problem is gone. lesson? In UK is no mechanics,they're too stupid to repair even small problem :/

My all 06 Ford Focus is doing the same thing every other day the check engine light will come on, the speedometer will stop the working like this video and the transmission will hit hard from first gear to second gear. You think is the speed sensor? And if it is, is it the output or input speed sensor?
