    What an astonishing list. The number of people who tasted a comparable list of wines in 2022 could not possibly be large.

    • @AttorneySomm

      Thanks very much. Extremely fortunate to have such a terrific tasting group in Dallas. Lots of people who have been collecting wine for many years and enjoy sharing (and vice versa).

    • @gogreenmsu03
      @gogreenmsu03 Год назад +1

      Yes, what a treasure. Sounds like getting into a group would be a game changer.
      I find myself to be an outlier among most people I know who enjoy wine. So many people I know are interested in Napa Cabs, and sometimes CA Pinot Noir, but very rarely do I run across someone who is interested in wine more broadly.
      On several occasions I’ve shared a CdP, Brunello, or something else. Usually they’ll enjoy it, but it doesn’t seem to take root and ignite a deeper interest. But I do have a tendency to take my interests to deeper places than most people. Not sure if that’s a personality feature or bug, but that’s me (and probably most people watching wine videos on RUclips!).

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  Год назад

      @@gogreenmsu03 Thanks! You might try organizing a them around Cabernet, but then include something from Bolgheri, Bordeaux, etc. in addition to Napa. Then try serving the wines blind. They may be surprised and that may get them to expand their horizons. Even if it doesn't, that makes for a fun tasting. The same can be done with Pinot Noir, etc.

    • @gogreenmsu03
      @gogreenmsu03 Год назад +1

      Great idea. I might have to put that into action in 2023 and see how it goes. Regardless, a tasting group with all CA wines is better than no tasting group at all.

    I've never had the privilege of the Unico but I managed to get my hands on a couple of 1995 Valbuena's a few years back. I opened the first one last year and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm so glad I bought two. 27 years in the bottle is some achievement. That's older than some of my staff. Well done with the UNICO which are excellent vintages. That naughty reviewer, Malcom Gluck, is on record saying that we should all trust in our favourite producers rather than vintages. I think the reality is between the two but I kind of get where he's coming from.
    I know I comment on Spanish wine most because that is my comfort zone but I absolutely love French and Italian wine too. I'd buy more but I'm a spirits nut as well. Whisky descriptors are usually the apex but your notes are really excellent. So glad you picked the Ygay white because Rioja white has very little wine fanbase. I know very well it can be fantastic. Not just Rioja either. Great Spanish whites are flying under the radar all over the place. Personally, I love those oak aged Riojas. The white Tondonias are great from the get go but get something aged like this Ygay and you are on to a winner.
    I have a 2002 Chateau d'Yquem in the bunker which I picked up on the cheap (£95 for a half bottle) in a whisky auction. It flew under the radar but not for me. I adore French sweet wine and it is 'the nectar of the Gods.'
    Fantastic list again. Superb wine and excellent tasting notes.

    Excellent list John, you really had a fantastic 2022 ! I drank close to 120 or so bottles this year and I cannot decide on my #1 wine of 2022 : It was either a Cayuse Bionic Frog 2008 or a Chateau Trotanoy 2006 that I just had last week. Interesting things for me this year were the discovery of Greek red wine and German pinot noir ( delicious btw!). 2023 will certainly be a year of much less buying and I hope to drink a lot of my aged wines. Bday is the 9th and I am still deciding to open a vertical of Valbuena #5 (2010,11,12,13) or open a variety of aged Napas and Bdx. Last but not least, my buy of 2022 was a case of Trotanoy 2019 that maybe I will not even drink it, but pass it on to my kids :) Have an excellent 2023, hope we can meet in Dallas someday.

    Happy New Year JJ! What a list worth waiting for since seeing your earlier 20-11 video. If you like a great book on Champagnes served at historically significant occasions then may I suggest getting a copy of Champagnes and Chandeliers by the Australian Bernadette O'Shea (a recipient of the French award for Champagne writing). If you and your tasting group like ideas around matching the food with the wine from an historical perspective then this book is a must. Let me know if you find it difficult getting a copy and I will see what I can do from here. I liked your Marques De Murietta recommendation as I have enjoyed current vintages of this bodega for the last couple of years. A local supplier has the 1986 Cocheca for $799.00 a bottle. Anyone recommending Chateau D'Yquem has my respect. The first bottle of botrytis Semillon I ever tasted was the famous DeBortoli Noble One of which I still have a 750ml bottle of the very first vintage (1981) in my cellar The length woke me the next morning and lingered even after brushing my teeth. Tonight I am pairing a Turducken with a Tasmanian Pinot Noir by Bream Creek. Cheers!
