Pi vs Tau | A Video Essay
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 июн 2024
- In this unusual video for this channel Emerald explains the mathematical constant of Tau, Pi (3.14)'s bigger brother. In celebration for Tau day, as a proud Tauist myself I will be baking 2 pies (get it? because Tau is 2xPi) and I hope this video essay about this mathematical complex concept will encourage you to become a Tauist and spread the word of Tau to all your friends, even if its just a stupid party trick bit of knowledge. So let me know in the comments how YOU will celebrate Tau Day!

Hey everyone, just wanted to mention that i am in no way a professional, just a nerd who did a good bit of research 🙃
fun fact, Euler originally used pi to mean what we call tau today.
He also used it to represent 3.14, he used it as a variable to represent radians, similar to how we use theta now
i always knew this ever since i used pi, a lot of 2pi showing up everywhere, and i knew using the radius would solve it, thank you for confirming.
2:35 You're talking about radians here, right? I don't want the coloring to give the false impression that this is about area.
On that note, π may seem to have the upper hand over τ in the context of area: 1/6 of a unit disk has an area of π/6, or τ/12. But confusing though the extra factor of 1/2 may be in the τ case, a factor of 1/2 arises naturally in the context of circular area, so it has an actual reason to be there.
Yes! sorry I guess I should have been more clear on that, just wanted to make a simple visual that people could understand
as for area yes if I could change one thing about this video it would be adding the counter argument that in some cases pi is still good to use.
I was about to comment something similar about clarifying area vs angles, but you beat me to it. Tau is more intuitive for angles than Pi and Pi is more intuitive for areas than Tau.
However, for the sake of argument, I think angle of the unit circle is more fundamental than the area of the circle.
You should learn how to use the python library 3blue1brown made, your animations would be sick
Can't wait to use this information to calculate the exact area (In pixels) of the TNTW Logo!
i knew you could not be trusted from the minecraft thumbnail
dont know what that has to do with anything 😊
How will this effect the tntw merch sales
all sales will now be calculated in tau.. whatever that means
Actually I don't mind if it's pi or tau, I just think it would be so much better if there would be only one of them. Because you could use that one letter for a better constant than just the multiply of another constant in my opinion. X3
I was not prepared for this new holiday. The video is not 6:28 😢
aww i didnt even realize i could have made it 6:28!! I'll keep that in mind next year, new yearly tradition
😱
@@Emerald_Devbru you aren't the video creator 💀
@@JUSTREGULARSCREAMINGAAHH fun fact! Thats me. Im Emerald, the person who mainly runs this account and thats my other personal account 💀
@@TNTWStudios ohh ok, good video! Always loved tau
ok but pi sounds like pie
i love pie
x or 2x?
It's pee and toph in greek
quite interesting how things like greek letters are taken and used in things like math with a completly different meaning and pronunciation
