He had an anvil hanging off of the baloon he was going to crush the road runner with. But when he cut the rope the baloon and him fell and the anvil stayed up there. And after Wiley hit the ground the anvil fell on top of his head and the roadrunner went beep beep.
"...oh sure I have adventure in my soul, it's my body I'm worried about!" I'm definitely going to remember that line. Also, it was beautiful to show the Major's spirit ride off in the balloon and witnessed by the Cartwrights at 46:27 and then by the daughter.
I think that's the only time Hoss got his own back on Joe and played a trick on HIM for a change. And Joe's voice gets squeakier and squeakier the more frightened he gets.
You would never get me in one of those hot air balloons. Too chicken (you know what). Besides, my roommate, Carol has enough hot air for a fleet of these balloons. No joke.😆🤠
Gotta admit those writers for Bonanza could make historical events appear 180 degrees from the truth. This ain't the only example, there are many. But entertaining? Fer SHURE. 1793 marked the first flight of a hydrogen balloon in this country. Almost a CENTURY prior to this story.
Wow, thanks for that factoid. I had no idea they went back that far. Just imagine people in a small1783 village seeing one of those things going by. I would pay a million dollars to see their reaction lol
Thank you, I thought they were 18th century technology, not 19th century! But my only real expertise is 14th century, so I thought maybe I'd misremembered.
It's not the balloon that was new, it was sailing it over the ocean with a boat attached instead of a basket! No body pays attention to the details, that's why we're in the mess we're in!
A young girl named Diana came to Mr. Cartwright family to meet her father. Then the story begins. A story full of adventures. The best story ever. Fantastic episode. Interesting story. Western Classics.
It a western series. Of course there has to be gunshots in every episode, it was expected like the black and white hats, the good guys and the bad guys.
@@margenebarlow4720 Sorry but yes there was some shooting in the first episode, It's entitled Any Friend of Walter's, the outlaws took shots at Hoss when he was on his way to visit Bessie Sue and that's when he took cover at Walter's owner's house( Obie) and the owner at one point started shooting back at them once Hoss entered their home but yeah there is some shooting in the first episode pertaining to Walter the dog. It's a comedy episode but there's still some shooting but I don't think there's any in episode 2 entitled Walter And The Outlaws
Isn't this the same actress who played Sheila in "My brothers keeper"? I think so. This time she is a blondie whereas in "My brothers keeper" she had red hair. I recognised her face and her voice.
In the American old west that century and centuries before wasnt it dull no t.v no radio only saloons maybe some newspapers books to read scool some theater
Ya DID notice Hoss laughing as he opened his eyes after Joe walked off. It wouldn't have gone like that in real life on Dan Blocker's worst day and Landon's best. Blocker was a real athlete, and among other pursuits boxed. An iron chin on ol Hoss, Joe would have only broken his hand
@n/a that’s not the same as the way little joe won over hoss all the time. The way he treated hoss when he entered him into the flapjack contest, the way he always won when they pull straws, the writers had him always win over hoss. Even when it didn’t make sense. I couldn’t stand it.
@n/a I stopped watching after Adam left. Haven’t watched any episode after that. I don’t care what little joe do I just don’t like him. I find him annoying. I liked when he got beat up.
Anyone else notice that the hot air balloons came down in a way that defies gravity. It seems like the rope that is pulling the balloon down should be vertical ⏸️,, instead of at a strange angle
Wow, I didnt realise they had PVC flexible piping in the 1800's, why would they put something so stupid in the show, it could be rubber, Im not sure if they had or needed flexible rubber tubing.
😂😂😂😂 little Joe, he makes me laugh sooo hard. you were indeed a lover dear Michael .♥️♥️♥️
When little joe got in the basket 🧺, I swear I saw Wiley coyote testing one of his contraptions
He had an anvil hanging off of the baloon he was going to crush the road runner with. But when he cut the rope the baloon and him fell and the anvil stayed up there. And after Wiley hit the ground the anvil fell on top of his head and the roadrunner went beep beep.
Bonanza is truly amazing. 💥
Adam was such a great character. Most dependable of the sons.
Nah all of Bens sons were dependable 😊
"...oh sure I have adventure in my soul, it's my body I'm worried about!" I'm definitely going to remember that line. Also, it was beautiful to show the Major's spirit ride off in the balloon and witnessed by the Cartwrights at 46:27 and then by the daughter.
That was an emotional moment in the episode.
Another great episode with drama and comedy
Nice, western story, and see was child,. Now l visit the Ponderosa,. and enjoy. the area in Nevada.
oh sure I have adventure in my soul its my body I'm worried about I agree with joe cause I'm afraid of heights ❤❤❤ michael landon is a classic actor 😊
I think that's the only time Hoss got his own back on Joe and played a trick on HIM for a change. And Joe's voice gets squeakier and squeakier the more frightened he gets.
Little Joe in another episode waa afraid of heights but he still decided to try n safe Hoss from being flown away
You would never get me in one of those hot air balloons. Too chicken (you know what). Besides, my roommate, Carol has enough hot air for a fleet of these balloons. No joke.😆🤠
Oh I would, if only they weren't so expensive to ride in, and you can't travel where you need to go. But I hate flying in airplanes, those scare me.
Robert Altman has written a number of these bonanza classic episodes
Thanks for uploading and sharing this old series.
Best regards luck and health.
A Great episode with the amazing Sidney Blackmer.
I can always depend on the screaming woman at the right time on this show lol
👏🏆🥇funniest comment 🤣
Diana millay
Considering how rich the Cartwrights are you would think they could afford some new clothes .
Ben and Hoss are always being conned.
they could make more money than cattle and timber if the would charge all the people for room and board at the ponderosa bed and breakfast
This man was seeing into the future
Nope. Manned balloon flight had already occurred, LONG before this.
@@tomswinburn1778 Not in the plot it didn't. It works better if you keep fiction and fact separated.
The aerial view of The Ponderosa revealing thicker wagon wheel tracks. Must be future mudders or 4x4 wagon wheels lol
The Golden Age of Ballooning.
She didn't scream when her father got shot, just when the other man fell out.

And 1783 in Versailles!
Wow, thanks for that factoid. I had no idea they went back that far. Just imagine people in a small1783 village seeing one of those things going by. I would pay a million dollars to see their reaction lol
I was just thinking didn't they have balloons in the civil war?????
Thank you, I thought they were 18th century technology, not 19th century!
But my only real expertise is 14th century, so I thought maybe I'd misremembered.

Ben said you bet your boots to the coronels daughter.😂
13:05, Hoss and Little Joe dangle in the air.
I'm a lover not a flyer...LoL..
Hi 🙋♀️ this is a very nice 👍🏻
A young girl named Diana came to Mr. Cartwright family to meet her father. Then the story begins. A story full of adventures. The best story ever. Fantastic episode. Interesting story. Western Classics.
What the army officer was saying was the future of aviation and aeronautics
Good👍 👌✌🤩😍🥰
31:14 Never seen that patio on the pandarosa before!🤔
I wonder if those heaven sent sparkles in the air beginning around @47:22 were part of the original show or added later
Private Bill Kingsley was played by actor Burt Douglas. He also played Jack Tatum in another episode called The Rescue. I thought he looked familiar.
Is there a Bonanza were no shots are fired ?
This one came close . 💰 🤠 👢
It a western series. Of course there has to be gunshots in every episode, it was expected like the black and white hats, the good guys and the bad guys.
I think the episode with Walter the dog doesn't have any shooting. It's one of their comedy ones.

Chinese spy balloons back in the 1860's, with mystery and intrigue and purpose. Dodgy hemp rope in the farewell scene.
Isn't this the same actress who played Sheila in "My brothers keeper"? I think so. This time she is a blondie whereas in "My brothers keeper" she had red hair. I recognised her face and her voice.
I don't think it is the same actress.
The actress who played Sheila was Carolyn Kearney.
No she wasn’t t
No one retrieved the stolen bank money from the balloon before it broke loose.
the saddle bag was on the Sargent's shoulder when he fell out the bag was on the ground next to him.
The saddle bags took the fall to mother earth with the Sargent after Adam shot him after the major was shot.
In the American old west that century and centuries before wasnt it dull no t.v no radio only saloons maybe some newspapers books to read scool some theater
Louis Vuitton seems to be the luggage of choice. Louis Vuitton has been around since 1854.
Do they show the luggage here? I think I seen some of it in another episode.
Seven years later Sidney Blackmer was the warlock/coven-leader Roman Castevet in Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby (1968).
Now who believes puny little joe knocked out Hoss.?
Ya DID notice Hoss laughing as he opened his eyes after Joe walked off. It wouldn't have gone like that in real life on Dan Blocker's worst day and Landon's best. Blocker was a real athlete, and among other pursuits boxed. An iron chin on ol Hoss, Joe would have only broken his hand
@n/a I couldn’t stand little joe. They always allowed him to get the best of hoss. I just wished he would have knocked little joe out.
@n/a yeah hoss was a great guy but I hated the way little joe always topped him. The only storylines I liked were Adam and hoss.
@n/a that’s not the same as the way little joe won over hoss all the time. The way he treated hoss when he entered him into the flapjack contest, the way he always won when they pull straws, the writers had him always win over hoss. Even when it didn’t make sense. I couldn’t stand it.

This was made in the early 60s ugh😊
What about the money
A sad ending story predicted that he would create a balloon company after the test
Before Orville and Wilbur Wright and why whenever something bad happens a woman's voice in the background screams
Is the money in the balloon ?
The very predictable ending let the balloon go flat.
There’s no horse for him
Wow, I didnt realise they had PVC flexible piping in the 1800's, why would they put something so stupid in the show, it could be rubber, Im not sure if they had or needed flexible rubber tubing.
I'm more bothered by the notion that we're supposed to believe they clattered across the continent with a wagon full of hydrogen gas lol
A major driving a team?
I have to say it: The most corny ending bonvoyage Johnny 😅
Hoss Cartwright middle fly balloon
Little joe Cartwright young not fly up
Adam Cartwright brother old
Ben Cartwright
