The fact that Nadal could not get a set on Nole on hardcourt for 10 years is probably why we hear these comments from Nadal.

    • @huzcer
      @huzcer 8 месяцев назад +57

it all goes back to before that in 2011 - Nadal was coming off his best ever season then Djokovic goes and beats him in 7 matches in a row, all finals, including 3 Grand Slam Finals. It took Federer 7 whole years to get 7 wins against Nadal during Federer's "prime" era 2004-2010. Djokovic just destroyed Nadal completely there and Nadal never got over it and after that never again consistently challenged on hardcourt or grass.

    • @RichardABradley-ze9qn

Nadal also avoids him like the plague except on clay:
In the past 10 years sets H2H on clay (12 meetings):
      Nadal: 20
      Djokovic: 15
In the past 10 years sets on hard courts (ONLY 9 meetings):
      Djokovic: 19
      Nadal: 0
Last time Nadal faced Djokovic on a hard court was in early January, nearly 4 years ago.

On the contrary Nole when he loses , always show respect , and genuinely gave credit for opponent after the match . Rafa still cannot accept the fact that Nole is simple better tennis player . Hat off to Roger who realize that long time ago and put his ego aside .To be complete true champion one has to have high morals as well as human virtues , not just hitting the ball with a racket , that's why Nole is so unique .

Nadal has been doing that “Aw, shucks, I’m just a regular guy and I don’t care about records” shtick ever since he hit the tour. He was chasing Federer’s records like a maniac for ten years, and Federer never felt the need to make those kind of petty, backhanded remarks.
If Djokovic hadn’t sat out two majors for refusing an arguably unnecessary shot, he might have 26 majors right now compared to Rafa’s 20. Let’s not forget Djokovic had the highest ATP point total in history at that time, and he was heavily favored to win both majors he was forced to skip. Nadal hadn’t beaten Djokovic on a hard court in ten years, and he miraculously won the Australian and US Opens while Djokovic was out.
I actually think it’s funny that Rafa spent so many years chasing Federer’s record, and when he finally caught Federer, Djokovic caught him, too. The only time Rafa actually held the record was when Djokovic was barred from playing-and as soon as Djokovic could play again, he immediately caught Rafa and surpassed him. Now that Djokovic stands alone at the top, Rafa doesn’t care about records.

You also need to include that Wimbledon was canceled due to Covid as another Slam that Novak probably wins,
Then there is the US Open's insistence on putting in Old Men and Women as linespeople who are too slow to get out of the way of at best a 20 mph ball and then get Novak disqualified, thankfully they now switched to Hawkeye technology.
On Rafa's 13th French Open, he played early on Friday semifinal, where Novak had to play 2 sets on Friday with on-and-off rain delays and then 3 long sets against Tsitsitpas on Saturday. Rafa's win on Sunday was due to Novak's fatigue, but Novak was too classy to mention that in the post game interviews.

I'm a Novak fan as well. To be brutally honest, his on-court antics aren't the best when in comparison with Fed and Nadal's. But still, he makes up for that with heaps of positive energy and honest humility during on-court and off-court press conferences with the most delicate and accurate choices of words and expressions like Federer, despite English not being his first language - even John McEnroe said Djoko makes the best speeches and interview responses, almost that of a politician. It speaks volumes of how much hard work he put in not just tennis but also communication, you can tell that his English got so much better as he aged. The same cannot be said about Rafa.
It's sad that so many Fed and Nadal worshipping fans are the first to berate or criticize Novak for even the smallest blunders, forgetting that the big 3 are all humans. They only see the negative sides of Djokovic which are unfortunately his honest expressions of frustration on the court when things don't go his way. They fail to see his humane side.
If Djokovic's nationality was that of a Western European or North/South American continent, people might have viewed him differently.
To think that he rejected the offer to be granted the British nationality and passport with more income, but to instead remain a Serbian with dignity, speaks volumes about how great of a man he is before a tennis player.

If I were to make a funny joke, Rafa has every right to have beef with Djokovic because Djokovic kept defeating him on a regular basis on tons of hard court matchups since 2011. And to think that Djokovic is the player with most wins against Rafa on clay, let alone the most wins against him on Roland Garros clay, both of which are all-time records in tennis history, Rafa couldn't be more mad. Plus Rafa couldn't take even a set off from Djokovic on hard court since the 2013 US open final. HAHA.
Jokes aside, Rafa deep down should feel a bit edgy and hurtful because of Djokovic's convincingly great dominance against him, but he really does a terrible job of handling it, showing his saltiness.
Federer had the most number of heartbreaking losses against both Djoko and Rafa at majors, but he handles it with class. He gets along with both Rafa and Djoko.
A lot of people think Rafa represents great humility, discipline (never breaking a racket) and genuine generosity, but in my book he's the saltiest among big 3.

    • @Mark-kq6ch
      @Mark-kq6ch 8 месяцев назад

Yeah, it seems like projection to call him ambitious doesn't it? Rooting for Federer all those years was really frustrating because unlike Nadal he did have what it took to beat Djokovic at least 1/3 of the time in majors during Novak's prime. But the guy could not convert break points or win a match point to save his life, and that has to be 100% psychological. He was so much more the better player in the 2019 Wimbledon matchup, yet he couldn't win the match.
It's just disappointing as a general fan of the game because there could have been so much more of a somewhat even rivalry there, even though Federer was much older.

@@Mark-kq6ch I admire Federer because I used to be a diehard Federer fan - I started playing and watching tennis since 2002, and paid attention to every little detail about Federer in 2005-2007 including all the matches, outfit, shoes, personal life, interview, etc. I bought his Wilson nCode 90 sq. racket in 2006 and even painted the racket strings with the "w" to make myself look like Federer. Every second of my life was occupied with the thoughts about Federer. Over the years I also became a fan of Rafa and Djokovic on and off the court, and used to even emulate/employ their playing style during my high school varsity tennis matches.
I still admire and respect Federer's legacy even to date, and cannot deny the fact that he paved the way for both Nadal and Djoko to reach the pinnacle of the sport. 3 of them all affected and shaped one another to great heights. As someone who's been a fan of the big 3 over the years, especially Federer in 2005-2007, I've seen each of them both dominate and struggle on the tour.
Federer's mental strength without a doubt was the liability which caused him to lose a lot of crucial matches against Djoko and Nadal. However, mental strength is a huge part of the game. You cannot phrase it in such a way that disrespectuflly diminishes Federer's opponents' efforts. Federer was not the better player in those crucial matches. At the end of a match, the better player always takes the win. Simple as that.

I didn’t realize it was negative to want to hold oneself to a higher standard, to try and see how good you can get in the sport and acquire records along the way. Who wouldn’t want to be obsessed with doing something you loved. Federer was obsessed, and was never quiet about his love for tennis, but that’s okay right? Finding myself having to now separate Rafa as a person and Rafa the player who’s 2013 harcourt play style had me watching every highlight on this platform
Since his retirement Federer has only praised Djokovic and shared respect, it seems like he’s wanting a better relationship and I hope that happens. Maybe not so much with Rafa

The greatest thing about Novak is that in whole of his prime ever since 2011 he was finding new ways to win against the opponent. Earlier he was mostly outlasting opponents and had some flaws here and there. As years went by he fixed so many aspects like smash, serve, volley, drop shots, forehand. Also looks like he is the smartest player out there with his "death by a thousand cuts" style, and it's like he is playing chess games with opponents and is taking them to the ride they've never been on...

Novak has always been honest and upfront with his legacy aspirations. With that said, he's also demonstrated without a shadow of a doubt, that Slams are not the most important thing in his life. I mean, he sacrificed at least another three by not taking the vaccine and being banned from all tournaments for a year. I guess for other players, this was the only way Novak could be defeated and opened the door for Nadal, and Alkaraz get a hard court Slam under their belt that would've been unlikely if Novak was playing. Where did him saying Novak would’ve been frustrated if he didn’t get the records means that Novak is bad and Rafa is good? He simply defined different states of mind between him and Novak. Rafa has repeatedly maintained even when he had more slams than Djokovic that he doesn’t live in the tension if his neighbour has a better car or more money, he is simply reiterating the same using Novak’s state of mind. Rafa is a competitive athlete but not to the extent that he wouldn’t be happy if he finished second but everyone knows Novak definitely wouldn’t have been happy to ever finish second, Novak himself has said that so many times so where’s the issue? It’s a classic case of over dramatic reactions by his fan base which only proves how much grounded they have been/are. There’s a reason (and it’s not that the world is against Novak) that despite being the GOAT most people don’t get the genuine warmth from Novak as they do from Nadal and Federer and just because you can’t digest that being his fan doesn’t mean everything and everyone is out to get Novak. Don’t let your own tainted opinions interpret things in ways that weren’t even intended.

Couldn't say the same for the other guy...

Rafa considered Roger as his rival and focused on chasing Roger's record so he could be the GOAT. The thing is, he kept chasing Roger without looking at his rear that someone was about to surpass him and Roger. The greatest mistake of Rafa is by not looking at his rear. That is why he doesn't acknowledged Nole as his greatest rival because of their head-to-head record.

The thing is, as crazy as Rafa and Roger are good in tenis, they dont have that personality Djokovic has, I dont wanna separate their talent and say one is better then others although I favour Djokovic personally for obvious countryman reasons, but lock them in one room together and Djokovic will always be ALPHA there, any time, any day of the year. Its just that mental strenght which pushes him to get better than even the best ones. Hes mentality Master like no one else equal maybe only to Michael Jordan.

Deciding to NOT take the jab was a very PERSONAL decision and should have never entered this conversation. People need to learn to accept someone's choice despite it not being in line with the popular one and maybe, just maybe, it might have been a very wise one, indeed !!

nadal publicly chided novx for not getting it, but later realized the rumors of it were horribly true, hes now hrt.lng damaged and cannot/shd not return to the tour, novx KNEW this early on, likely his wife told him, but nadals coaches etc had $$$ in both eyes and ignored/downplayed the danger/rumors to him and got him sufficiently speared so they could all go make the big bucks, and now the big buck himself has been bucked out of the tour, likely forever. NEVER entered the conversation? what? its the ELEPHANT in the ROOM!!

For me, at the time, the problem wasn't not getting the jab. That's fine. The problem was that he seemed to be hoping for special treatment or loopholes to help him get round the rules that applied to other unvaccinated people in Australia. Anyway, it's in the past now. It doesn't diminish his achievments. Nor do his achievments counter such criticism, as some seem to think. It's not trashtalk and karma, it's two completey different facts about the same person.

One can make a similar argument with Rafa and winning Roland Garros; that he's obsessed with winning that tournament at all costs.

I am a Novak fan , a Serbian and my name is also Milos so I would assume you are Serbian as well but I will comment in English as this is an English video .
That is just nonsense , even without clay he has 8 slams and 10 masters 1000 on hc , that alone would put him in top 15 players of all time by itself .
Is he greater than Novak ? No , no he is not . But there is no need to diminish Nadal's legendary status as a tennis player which he absolutely is .

I don't see absolutely nothing wrong with anything Nadal has said. I can't see the point of this video, tbh. And no, Novak is NOT the greatest of all time, as there isn't such a thing. Connors has more titles than anyone, Federer was number 1 for four years in a row, Laver won the calendar slam twice, and Nadal is the best clay player ever - clay being arguably the best and definitely the most demanding surface of the three. It's impossible to point to a GOAT, there can't be such a thing. But if people insist, let's say it's Marcelo Rios, the most skilful of them all.
