thank you so much for this video! as someone who's inexperienced with home repair i was able to do this on my own. i couldn't find this method ANYWHERE else online but everyone deserves to know about it. my bedroom door now latches!!
This was the exact video I was trying to find for the last hour. You did a fantastic job with audio and video quality! Thank you for going over most of the steps in detail.
Not very many videos on how to repair the door, only the door jam, so thanks for this.. I had my door kicked in, and it did just this same type of damage to my actual door. Wasn't sure what I was going to do, and can't afford a new door!!!
Funny part is, home owner probably watched a similar video before trying to do the repair himself and here I am about to make the same mistake (or succeed!)
I was looking for exactly this! Thanks so much!!! We had a screw that was sticking out a bit (we didn't realize it until the door was broken), when we tried opening the door it just broke off. Will be fixing it with your helpful video now. The dowels part is genius!!! That's the problem with my door, the screws part has become loose.
Thanks so much for posting this. I never thought of using dowel to fill in the old damaged screw holes. You might have just saved me from buying a new door
If I was you I would install a door reinforcement plate around those locks even though you did a good job on repairing the door. That door is pretty weak in that area anyway and it would help increase the strength of the door.
If you can,run the dowel through the door because the end grain of the dowel strips out easily. If you drill straight through the door and run the dowels that way it'll hold up better.
If the hole is small enough, matches would be perfect. Remember tho, the key to a good wood glue bond is “glue squeeze out.” Also, toothpick works on even smaller holes. Unless they are coated with that mint flavor. Whatever u use, use bare wood to plug holes.

Thanks for the tip!
Thanks! just fixed my door with your method.
Very nice explanation.
In less severe cases, I have used wooden stove matches to add something for the screws to catch onto,

Thank you! I refuse to give up on an old door :)
You should replace the strike plates on the door to make it look more beautiful.
Thanks
Of course! Were you able to repair your door?
How much do you generally charge for this?

What did you use to fill the holes you drilled out? It looks like a dowl.
