This isn’t a bad outcome given we salvaged a pick in the 40’s with this trade with Port. Don’t underestimate Bo Allan he is a quality player who will help compliment our midfield and can swing back in defence.
If Hamish davis slides that's another good pick. Same with Lachie Jaques. There's some decent options that could potentially slide if there's a few doozy picks
Crows fan here. Massive win for the eagles! This guy reminds me of will day and from all reports a great character, which is just as important for you guys at this stage as talent. This guy will be a 200+ gamer and a future captain of your club, great result after trading out of the top 10.
if he becomes a good defender he can help fill in the void that barrass left. And I think that this player really fits the mold with Mini's style of play, emphasising turnovers in the backline. the draft tends to favour the Vic boys so we probably got him for better value. also I love your channel (my girlfriend rolls her eyes whenever you're on the tv because she doesn't care about footy)
I called it on one of your previous videos that I didn't think the Vic clubs would take Allen with so many good local kids and the risk of Bo's go home factor. Getting another pick in the 40s was a great addition. Excited for tomorrow as theres still some exciting players out there - Shanahan, Mraz, Moraes, Davis, Gerryn, bell, champion etc...
I have the feeling our list management still have good communication with Richmond. Bo Allan being available might be a repay of us overpaying for Baker.
i always felt we had some agreement with tigers, they would help us get who we wanted. they wouldnt take him before us. also helped us get him out from under freo. sometimes paying slight overs for a player can help in the long run. stoked to get Bo, plus a handy extra pick.
I think we salvaged this draft relatively well so far considering we traded down. I'm happy we have Bo Allan, he is also a left footed midfielder potentially which is a slight point of difference. He can also play back, has leadership qualities, combined with Baker, Graham, Owies etc. I do feel that this might be the better outcome for the rebuild with the benefit of future hindsight.
As for whether this vindicates the decision to split pick 3 to get Liam Baker, you can argue that pick 3 for Baker, Owies, Allan and pick 45 looks decent. But I'd argue that we've still left a couple of picks on the table by being too amenable. First, we should have got an extra pick from Carlton when we split pick 3 for picks 12 and 14. Instead, we sweetened that deal for them, which is ridiculous. Second, we should have got something back from Richmond when we gave up pick 14 for Baker. So let's not start calling it a win just yet. We still accepted unders for pick 3 and then paid overs for Baker. Fortunately, North swooped in and eclipsed our bad deal with something even stinkier.
Yep. We should have gotten back what became pick 27 if we were hell-bent on using 14 for Baker. Or alternatively used hawks F1 and kept 14. Either of those scenarios let's us trade with north for their F1.
Fantastic get for the club, that Port trade surprised the hell out of me. Most of the deficiencies that you listed are all fixable, will be interesting to see how we go with the next pick. North's trade is very puzzling. Glad you acknowledged that we have Bo, Graham, Baker and Owies for what essentially is 2 picks. Shanahan would be very handy but I feel we need backs more than Forwards. Hit the nail on the head we should have 4 players that could play from round 1, not sure how many 1st round draftees will start round 1💙💛🦅🏆
Today has made me much more positive about the whole trade situation. Looking at tigers and bulldogs, very likely we can get shanahan, which would be a steal!! Then a back and champion, pretty well balanced draft hand If we get Warner, a midfield with Reid, Warner, hewett and either ginbey or Allan, that looks sexy!!
For what it's worth, with my lens as a Freo supporter, West Coast did pretty bloody well here. All said and done with the trade period, the first night of the draft, and the future picks in the bank the Eagles list management should be eating their cake. You'll never please all the supporters and I think you've nailed the justification towards the end of the video, the side is atronger with multiple players coming in.... No sure about the converting of Freo supporters though. 😝
@@BDub2024 absolutely! No complaints from me there. I probably would have preferred Berry from a list need standpoint but Murphy Reid at half forward, eventually rotating into the midfield sounds pretty good to me too.

Since the coach has said Baker and Gymbey are playing backline next year, I don’t see a spot for Allan in defence. McGovern, Edward’s or Bazzo for key backs. Hoff, Gymbey, Maric and Allan fighting for 3rd tall. I realise Hoff can play small but he is 194cm. Then the smalls are Baker, Hunt, Cole and Duggan. Hunt could play wing. So one or two of these are likely to be squeezed out. So it is going to be interesting who misses out. I like the look of Allan, but not sure there is a spot for him round one, bearing in mind we get Hewitt back who will slide into the mid field, and Long back. Not sure how he gets squeezed into the team with Owies and Graham starting round one. A good problem to have. But I would have preferred we kept pick 3 and got jagga. When you consider our trade for Baker, Freo’s trade for Bolton and Geelong’s trade for Smith, Geelong came out streets ahead. Smith is better than Bolton and streets ahead of Baker. Don’t get me wrong I like Baker, but not at the price of pick 14.
Just saw on another channel Freo offered pick 17 & 34 for pick 15 to pick Berry before Port. But Port were going to Pick Allan which means we would have got M. Reid. Funny how the live trades can change players and clubs fortunes.
I reckon we'll trade a future second to move into the 30s in the draft. It will be interesting if we get another pick in this draft or whether we move forward from pick 45.
I was gutted when we traded out pick 3 yet I've also felt deflated after every game for the last 3 years bar maybe 6 or 7 games, 3 in particular this year so its been a really lean trot as we can all attest to. So reflecting back on the trade period I was like ok, we've brought in 3 really solid citizens which will strengthen our team resolve and help Yeo, Gov, Duggo, Oscar & the like lead the way both on the track and on field. To get Bo Allen at pick 15 is a win! He's a bull and with Harls, Hewey & Ginbey they will take the mantle from Yeo & TK in a couple of years time and we could potentially have 3/4 bulls in the guts, all of which offer something slightly different. It also puts pressure on Cole & Hunt to keep their output at 100% when playing in the backline. Whether we're able to bring Chad to the club for next year remains to be seen yet we have plenty of draft capital to either trade or draft before Tassie join which is important. Suddenly, its not all doom and gloom. Onwards & upwards to flag #5!
It will be interesting if we go for some guys delisted with draft picks. I would consider some of the WA boys as I'm sure there are some gems there that just haven't had the development of the Vic kids.

I really like the Allan pick, tbh I had him above Lindsay or Travaglia in order of preference. I just think he suits what Mini wants and he has all the attributes that Yeo has, that top end agility and power with a penetrating boot that Ginbey just doesnt have. If you're negative before the start your going to waiting for his faults his whole career. Dont do it 😅
Left field but I wouldn’t mind eagles redrafting Isiah winder - seems to have matured and on talent seems way too good for wafl. Would rather us pay twice than someone help see him flourish at their club.
I will bash this horse to death. But he has one of the worst kicks I've seen, second to Barrass.
But hate to be only negative and look forward to watching him progress and hopefully find his role and fit in the team
As good as he is he really doesnt fit out needs to well imo, lets just hope we nail the rest of the draft.
He can really play anywhere he could play as a hf
What .....we have been shit for 3 years ....anyone with 2 legs and heart beat is good
He can play
Seriously we needed to get baker too
Can’t express my disappointment enough
Why's that Bo? Who did you want?
@@TrueEagleAFLit’s not a knock on Bo, and it’s not his fault we picked him. It still comes back to being haunted by trading down from pick 3 and how we could have used other avenues to acquire the players we did in the trade too and retained the pick. We needed an accumulator, Draper or Smith. Bo will get a go for me, but will always be compared to those two boys now
Copium indeed ✅
You gotta have a little, right?
