PATRITE Trail - ALCALA de los GAZULES - Magical Towns of Spain

The Patrite Trail is one of the most popular routes that can be found in the vicinity of Alcala de los Gazules, a town located in the Natural Park of Los Alcornocales (Cádiz) and belonging to the network of Magic Villages of Spain.
To start the trail we will have to move to the Venta Patrite, a little more than 5 kilometers from the town arriving by the road CA-6201. The path begins at the end of the asphalted section of this same road and runs along the old "Vereda Patrite-Jimena", a section that linked the towns of Alcalá de los Gazules with Jimena de la Frotera.
The path, being carved into the rock, is striking for the remains of the collection of stone material that was used for the maintenance of the road.
During the succession of our steps we will feel the presence of the Rocinejo River and the various tributary streams that pour their waters into it, as well as some channeling that took advantage of all this water support to move the millstones of the various flour mills that dotted the area.
In the landscape we will also be surprised by the limestone slabs of Los Tallones and the Cascada de la Garganta del Espino, the latter accessible by a small detour.
The trail ends at the Montero River, another watercourse where you can see some remains of mills.
