NOT a jazz person but, so…. Only jazz band I ll get all the way through….. 2 reasons. Alex is my boy, from Testament and…these 2 guys he met in after college are amazing as well! Together, they cover some- a my favs and….in their highly elevated skill level, somehow convinced me to appreciate jazz.😂 Thanks guys! Over the top talent, I’m just not a huge jazz fan
So, I finally got around to listening to the Alex Skolnick Trio, and I really like what I'm hearing! What's interesting is that their sound here reminds me of another band called the Jazz Mandolin Project. Granted they use mandolin instead of guitar, but I hear some stylistic similarities. Check out the JMP song Xenoblast: ruclips.net/video/seKUEoBptUM/видео.html
Anyone know of a transcription of this? I first heard it on Pandora on a fusion station. When I first heard the intro, I was like “is this what I think is?” Used to play this tune back in high school and remember playing the interlude on a. korg mini synth (but I played guitar). These guys were spot on with their rhythm, great drumming. Reharm is very cool, it’s out there, but cool.
I disagree, especially when it comes to a cover. To cover a song you usually keep in earshot of the melody, rhythm and harmony, the tempo, dynamics.. it barely has any of these things.
No need to get so upset man. All music has rules, or rather guidelines, but regardless, a cover of a song imposes rules upon itself to maintain particular parts of the original composition, usually the melody otherwise it's a different song, pal.
DEEP PURPLE and VINILLA FUDGE did covers in the 1960's but rearranged them and steered so far away from the melody the songs were almost unrecognizeable, if this is supposed to be a RUSH cover, its almost unrecognizeable in places!!!
Excelente cover de un gran tema🎸🎶🎧
Wow! Fantastic!!!
Incredible song! Genius!
thanks for uploading! Love Skolnick!
Wow amazing cover!!!

Yeah, it pretty much just takes the main melodies, and does it's own thing. Which works great, I think.
I really like it but I can't recognize it as "Tom Sawyer" except for maybe thirteen seconds out of the whole thing.
It's Tom Sawyer, only when he swapped his day's events from 'The River' to LSD...
Drum and Bass would be amazing. Is maybe close?
You could do a drum & bass of this.
Alex vs Alex!
Rush!!!

I'm about to do a transcription of the first part today for modern drummer. Keep an eye out for it ☺️
At least the drum part.
great
I think this maybe alex's song now, mate.
Jason Dotson it was Alex's before...Alex Lifeson that is 😄
That is a gret cover but the song itself is by Rush
What happened to all of your videos with your dreads
This almost sounds entirely not like the actual song, I think if they called it "Green Space Falcons" nobody would have known it was a cover

You have a repulsive personality lol
Now that's a cringeworthy retort
+Paul Thoresen It's a jazz arrangement of the song dude. Its not supposed to be exactly like the original.
