Two set needs to react to this like the beginning
Dizzy Bears No they don’t how would that be a funny or interesting video
Practice 40 hours each day
Drink some Ling Ling potion
Twosetviolin
It doesnt have to be funny,
I just wanna see how many
Mistakes he has done without
Us knowing, plus i dont really
Think its possible to "learn how to play violin"
In only 13 hours, or 39 i think days.
U know, i dont even know what
I am talking about anymore now
Reem Amr it is very possible to learn the violin in a matter of days but definitely not hours. Still though, the violin isn’t hard if you actually practice , you don’t even need to go step by step, just if you try to push yourself it would definitely be possible.
In a matter of days, how many days tho, a whole 20 years or what?
Plus i do not believe in any way anyone can play an instrument like violin in a couple of days, as you don't only have to master sightreading but also technique and another one i can't remember. I mean someone could play violin in a couple of days but not master the whole thing, as there is a lot to violin that what meets the eye.
Soooooo, u can play violin in a couple of days, but you'll just be a noob with huge sunglasses and a stick. 😐
As you're scottish, I think it should be apropiate for you to learn how to play the bagpipes.
or tap dance ;D
JMG_99 Why not both? At the same time.
JMG_99 Jokes on you, he already knows how.

he's already learned it's in his blood

TwoSet needs too see that...he sure has a VERY GOOD LING LING INSURANCE!!
Mike Boyd makes me rethink learning entirely, I love seeing him take on challenges, show his progress and show his results all while telling us how many hours of honest practice it has taken. Last year in a strange twist of fate I found myself able to practice on a violin and it took me 10 minutes to decide to put it down and do something useful.
If it takes only this long for him to learn to play then, granted he may have a lot more musical grounding than I do already, why shouldn't I? I would be proud if I could achieve this with 50 hours of practice, never mind 13 hours, I've spent more than than in the last 30 days just cleaning.
I love how he was doing vibrato and shifting before he could bow straight
He's a guitarist its in our nature to vibrato everything
How bout the way he holds the bow? I've never seen anyone hold it the correct way the first time on Day 1, Hour 0. Lol.
He was playing vibrato at the beginning, he has obviously played an instrument before 👎
Richelle Furtado he’s got better vibrato than most of us
He does this because he plays guitar, where you bend the string up and down quickly to create vibrato. Sorry not the greatest guitar-vibrato-explainer.
Practice 40 hours a day
Ling Ling would be proud
Twoset all the way!
No... Ling ling would be disgraced because of the splitscreen
I see we have a cultured man in the comments
Ayye
I was thinking that hahaha
i'm a violin myself, and i have been playing for 7 years now. i know this was a very challenging task, and it was amazing to me that he could already do vibrato and use the bow properly. good job mike!

He was doing vibrato without even having a proper bow hold or haven the bow straight. But without a teacher that was very impressive.
he played guitar, so it's probably natural for him to use vibrato instead of not using vibrato, i think
Emmanuel Beltran I so agree

@@zakkupfer1390 I'm still practicing
Wow. If you're a non violinist it might be hard to comprehend how impressive this is. To progress that fast is pretty amazing. Just the fact that he can do string crossings and is already playing outside of first position. Great job!
This was brilliant Mike, but I just want to see you fail at something, you talented bastard. :P

Why is he doing vibrato
...
If he just started??!!
He isn't doing real proper vibrato.
Vibrato involves moving your whole hand and wrist he is just wobbling his finger. Very good progress for him either way though
He already plays guitar, so it's probably a reflex, even though the technique for doing it on the violin is different. (I can do vibrato on the guitar, but could never get the hang of it on the violin)
Doing it wrong though
He plays guitar
It's amazing how you could do this without anyone telling you anything about playing the violin, and with enough effort you could do this. Really inspiring.
SBB1809 Who ever said the greatest musicians didn’t have teachers? Where would they get their inspiration from? Maybe they didn’t have a teacher who gave instructions and taught them notes, beats and songs, but maybe an idol? That’s technically a teacher. And even If they did have teachers who give instructions and teach them music, who decided that everyone who has those teachers are needy and bad musicians? Yes they shouldn’t rely on their teacher’s instructions, but that doesn’t make them untalented.
That is inaccurate. You may not be able to teach greatness, but you do need guidance on technique, theory, and other aspects of music to achieve greatness.
what are you talking about? Mozart had teachers
Ling Ling: *laughs in the distance*
I know I’m just a tad bit late, (a few years) but I have some tips that might help you.
1. Near the end of the video, I couldn’t tell, but to help you hold the violin, get a shoulder rest. Makes it way more comfortable and easy to use. Everest and Kun is recommended.
2. Use your wrist. I noticed in the beginning how your bow was sliding throughout the strings, but it wasn’t as much as a problem at the end. That being said though, you should still use your wrist more and not your arm as it can really help when you have to do dynamics.
3. Lift up your violin. It would help when you eventually have to shift your fingers down the fret board and your posture in general. Try keeping the violin Parallel to the floor. Also put your thumb on the side of the neck, not on the strings, and keep your left hand straight and have it near or against the scroll, if you’re not shifting.
4. That bow is wayyyyy too tightened. If you play too hard, who knows what’ll happen.
5. You got a little mountain on your fingerboard, please use a microfiber cleaner, makes your violin look nice.

@@Trumpophone7 ....no? There is nothing wrong with these jokes. That's like saying "Can people not mention any vines? I don't see how they are funny, and they are ruining the video for me
It sounds nice, but you are focusing a lot on more advanced techniques before getting basics, for example, having your wrist against the neck will stop the violin from projecting sound as well, same with having it over your peck instead of shoulder. If you keep pursuing this, fix your posture, it will help immensely with your sound projection. Get all basics down, and don’t rely on the fingering chart, before trying vibrato or shifting.
Great video though, you did what most kids in my orchestra can’t do (actually sound good, vibrato, shifting) in 39 days, so hats off to you!
I'm a violist, but I have no idea why he tried doing vibrato, that can take a while to get the hang of.

Nice job on that bitter sweet symphony
I've spent 5 years of my life learning the violin and all I can say is that ur progress is amazing. Also taking into consideration that u've had no teacher and only been practicing for a month that just makes it epic.
I have some advices though ; buy a shoulder rest as playing with it is far more comfortable, loosen the tension of ur bow it just makes it bounce more often on the strings, and finally the right hand should b on a straight line with ur below-the-elbow arm (couldn't find a name for it XD). Other than that, u should keep up the good work, playing the violin is one of the skills that I could never regret acquiring.
I would call it your forearm 🙂
You are awesome, just 13 hours of practice and your music is so good. Good to hear you to playing on the violin!
That vibrato though

@@TheDatpussy guitar needs a different method (definitely not the one he used on the violin, I know because I've been playing guitar for years too) and it definitely was far from correct violin wise

@Thanos Tzanopoulos I know. I simply said his vibrato is wrong. It was good effort on his part either way, obviously

The first time I played the violin I could barely hold it right.
my violin is going to be great going to be my first time😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Right so many people are complaining that he is using advanced techniques but the whole premise is "LEARN QUICK"
Dallyingtoast this isn’t something that you learn quick it takes YEARS to even be OK. Also he should learn to read sheet music.
Davie504 was proud when he saw u playing the violin like a bass
This is INCREDIBLE! I just bought myself a beautiful violin on a whim with the dream of self teaching, and as someone who also plays music by ear this video was truly inspiring! So so awesome! Thank you for sharing! 😍
I’ve been learning violin for 3 years now and I’d suggest you get a teacher as self teaching violin will lead to many bad habits that will make you have to relearn all your technique. It’ll also be hard to know how to take care of the violin e.g. untightening the bow before storage. Although he made very large progress he still showed many bad habits.
The dude who sold the violin to him is a TwoSet fan

Meeting over
With no teacher, you did quite well. But if I'm being constructive then I would say: Keep your left wrist down, change your bow grip just a little, keep the instrument up, down't let it fall, also try not to let your thumb onto the fingerboard/strings, keep it to the side/under the neck, learn to read sheet music, straighten your bow strokes, try to have more articulation with your bow, and above all else. Play with confidence, if you're gonna make a mistake, make a huge one so that you know what to fix. And just keep practicing, that's what will set you apart at the end of the day.
Also loosen the bow a bit.
100% agreed
It's not like he is trying to become a professional
We're not implying that he is going to become professional. However, if one is going to do something, then said one must seek advice from another who is professional in order to do said something with exceeding skill. I other words, if you're going to do something, you need to make sure that you're doing to the best of your ability (not denying that he was) and you need to do as right as possible.

@Ozer Arkis and if drums do not work, just ditch one stick and stand inf front of the orchestra
very impressive for the amount of time put into practicing. Your vibrato will be far more free if you straighten your left wrist. A really easy way to practice vibrato: put a rubber band on the scroll of the violin so that you can play with the scroll against the wall (the rubber band protects the instrument and provides grip) Just practice vibrato very slowly with each finger. Create rhythms with the vibrato and practice with those. If all goes well, you should have a very free, rich vibrato
He should also straighten it so his notes are more 'clear' if I could say so.
Also, if he wants to store it, he should loosen the strings and vibrato.
One thing that makes a violin go from sounding okay to sounding excellent is vibrato. It takes a lot of practice to teach your hands how to move to achieve it and do it well. It makes it sound so much better
Jhezzee man that's quality 👌 keep up the good work, only came hear because I was curious to how to play it, so amazing
By ear.. damnnnnnn, I give you a sht load of credit
Shitty Voice it’s actually easier than reading notes. I’ve learned by ear and never regretted it.....how ever I would love it if I just grab sheet music and be like “yea I’ll just play this”
That’s actually how I learned all the songs for band and choir in high school since I was never able to learn sheet music. It’s actually pretty easy to do.
playing by ear is arguably easier then actually learning how to read music
I just watch YT videos where they show you what to click and for how long (piano)
Shitty Voice it’s so much easier. just hum the notes to yourself and find them. I can admit it’s difficult at some times but I’ve learned a lot of songs like that
