Reem Amr it is very possible to learn the violin in a matter of days but definitely not hours. Still though, the violin isn’t hard if you actually practice , you don’t even need to go step by step, just if you try to push yourself it would definitely be possible.

In a matter of days, how many days tho, a whole 20 years or what?
Plus i do not believe in any way anyone can play an instrument like violin in a couple of days, as you don't only have to master sightreading but also technique and another one i can't remember. I mean someone could play violin in a couple of days but not master the whole thing, as there is a lot to violin that what meets the eye.
Soooooo, u can play violin in a couple of days, but you'll just be a noob with huge sunglasses and a stick. 😐

Mike Boyd makes me rethink learning entirely, I love seeing him take on challenges, show his progress and show his results all while telling us how many hours of honest practice it has taken. Last year in a strange twist of fate I found myself able to practice on a violin and it took me 10 minutes to decide to put it down and do something useful.
If it takes only this long for him to learn to play then, granted he may have a lot more musical grounding than I do already, why shouldn't I? I would be proud if I could achieve this with 50 hours of practice, never mind 13 hours, I've spent more than than in the last 30 days just cleaning.

SBB1809 Who ever said the greatest musicians didn’t have teachers? Where would they get their inspiration from? Maybe they didn’t have a teacher who gave instructions and taught them notes, beats and songs, but maybe an idol? That’s technically a teacher. And even If they did have teachers who give instructions and teach them music, who decided that everyone who has those teachers are needy and bad musicians? Yes they shouldn’t rely on their teacher’s instructions, but that doesn’t make them untalented.

    • @Violamanben

I know I’m just a tad bit late, (a few years) but I have some tips that might help you.
    1. Near the end of the video, I couldn’t tell, but to help you hold the violin, get a shoulder rest. Makes it way more comfortable and easy to use. Everest and Kun is recommended.
    2. Use your wrist. I noticed in the beginning how your bow was sliding throughout the strings, but it wasn’t as much as a problem at the end. That being said though, you should still use your wrist more and not your arm as it can really help when you have to do dynamics.
    3. Lift up your violin. It would help when you eventually have to shift your fingers down the fret board and your posture in general. Try keeping the violin Parallel to the floor. Also put your thumb on the side of the neck, not on the strings, and keep your left hand straight and have it near or against the scroll, if you’re not shifting.
    4. That bow is wayyyyy too tightened. If you play too hard, who knows what’ll happen.
    5. You got a little mountain on your fingerboard, please use a microfiber cleaner, makes your violin look nice.

It sounds nice, but you are focusing a lot on more advanced techniques before getting basics, for example, having your wrist against the neck will stop the violin from projecting sound as well, same with having it over your peck instead of shoulder. If you keep pursuing this, fix your posture, it will help immensely with your sound projection. Get all basics down, and don’t rely on the fingering chart, before trying vibrato or shifting.
Great video though, you did what most kids in my orchestra can’t do (actually sound good, vibrato, shifting) in 39 days, so hats off to you!

I've spent 5 years of my life learning the violin and all I can say is that ur progress is amazing. Also taking into consideration that u've had no teacher and only been practicing for a month that just makes it epic.
I have some advices though ; buy a shoulder rest as playing with it is far more comfortable, loosen the tension of ur bow it just makes it bounce more often on the strings, and finally the right hand should b on a straight line with ur below-the-elbow arm (couldn't find a name for it XD). Other than that, u should keep up the good work, playing the violin is one of the skills that I could never regret acquiring.

I’ve been learning violin for 3 years now and I’d suggest you get a teacher as self teaching violin will lead to many bad habits that will make you have to relearn all your technique. It’ll also be hard to know how to take care of the violin e.g. untightening the bow before storage. Although he made very large progress he still showed many bad habits.

With no teacher, you did quite well. But if I'm being constructive then I would say: Keep your left wrist down, change your bow grip just a little, keep the instrument up, down't let it fall, also try not to let your thumb onto the fingerboard/strings, keep it to the side/under the neck, learn to read sheet music, straighten your bow strokes, try to have more articulation with your bow, and above all else. Play with confidence, if you're gonna make a mistake, make a huge one so that you know what to fix. And just keep practicing, that's what will set you apart at the end of the day.

very impressive for the amount of time put into practicing. Your vibrato will be far more free if you straighten your left wrist. A really easy way to practice vibrato: put a rubber band on the scroll of the violin so that you can play with the scroll against the wall (the rubber band protects the instrument and provides grip) Just practice vibrato very slowly with each finger. Create rhythms with the vibrato and practice with those. If all goes well, you should have a very free, rich vibrato
