Hi, I have a very interesting problem with my Octavia 2007 PD170 BMN. After one Siemens injector failed, an independent workshop replaced all the 4 injectors to a genuine new one. Since after the repair (it was 4 years ago) I have a very annoing problem: every 20th -25th (very rare) cold start is very-very hard, sometimes I have to try it 10 times or more, after it finally starts, there are no more problems. But now, because it is hard to reproduce the issue, I couldn't enforce the warranty on the work. After it starts, there are no smoke, no bad smell, no coolant loss. No oil level raising. Battery is new. Fuel filter is new. Timing belt is new. It runs well. Good consuption: under 6L/100km. Low mileage: ~110k kms in the clock. Injector corrections are on idle: 0.0, 0.14, 0.05, 0.09. Torsion value: -2.63 (factory setup was the same) What do you think? Can be a damaged seal? Or wrong rocker arm screw setup?

This solved hard starting? What ultrasonic cleaning fluid is the best to use? Is this a 2L machine?
I’ll do this procedure tomorrow. I’ll use regular gasoline as cleaning fluid put in a glass jar. The jar is then submerged in the water bath (tap water). Use no heat. Faster than anything. There are a couple of videos here on RUclips comparing gasoline with a couple of other cleaning solutions. Gasoline clear winner.
This is great! I just bought an ultrasonic cleaner for my pistons in my BHW swap. Didn't think to throw the injectors in there! Might I ask how long you left them in to clean and how much heat you used?
60°C for 15min
@@audilover6591 Awesome, thanks 👍
@@audilover6591 Great Video, but Elsawin states the following:
The actual cleaning process commences when the temperature reaches at least 70 °C and must last for at least 90 minutes.
After 90 minutes, switch off cleaning process by pressing ► button -D-.
Remove unit injectors from mounting plate. Allow unit injectors to dry in ambient air for max. 1 hour. (Never immerse the complete unit injector in the cleaning solution.)

I never submerged the whole injector, but thank you that you point this out.

Hi, have you used also new socket head bolts (N 105 811 01) how it is recommended?
No, I changed only new injector bolts (03G103385A), they must be changed each time because they tend to snap if you reuse them.

Hello, I've changed my injectors today with another set of refurbished ones and followed all the steps. Unfortunately I have starting problems now. Tried it for longer than 10 minutes before I quit, because I was afraid of killing my starter. What could be the problem? Air in fuel system? should I try longer ? Thx in advance!!
EDIT: Just read the conversation between you and "Louis Cleaver"....
I'm sure the injectors were pushed in completely, before I inserted/tightened the screws.
Hello.
Could be air in the fuel system.
Also my car had a hard start for the first time after I cleaned injectors. What I did is that I put the ignition ON for 10 times (wait for 5sec between the cycles) without starting the car, I did that just so the fuel pump in the tank can pump the fuel up to the tandem pump to prime it.
@@audilover6591 thank you for responding that quick. I’ll give it another try tomorrow 😊
Here I am again. Started fuel pump activation via VCDS several times. Engine is Running!!! Only problem is, that it’s smoking heavy and runs restless now. Any Ideas?

Hi great video, especially its the same engine as mine
i have two bad injectors and Siemens injectors for pd170 are not amazing, my mapper thinks best and cheaper option is to switch to bkd pd140
Couple questions if thats ok!
How was you moving the engine for adjusting injectors as I couldn’t see in the video
What was you doing at the end with the pliers by the rocker arm, plugs?
I need to change the wiring look plugs for bkd, what would you do, Un pin then re pin into new plugs?
Where did you get your new bolts and seals from?
Hi, thank you.
- I was turning the engine on the crankshaft pulley, (need to remove right tyre and remove the plastic around the wheel.
- I use the pliers to connect the glow plugs harness.
- I think you need a new harness for the injectors because I don’t know if there’s the same connector because the BMN injectors are using piezo coils, I didn’t do that so I don’t know the answer on your question.
- You can buy seals and bolts trough the Audi dealer. I bought mine from Autodoc, elring is the manufacturer.
thanks for the reply
-sounds easy enough
-iknow i need the bkd plugs but not 100% sure if the harness will fit,
-is that a good brand for long use or just a cheaper option?
What was the process after tightening the injectors and plugging in the plugs, did you have to turn the crank to a certain point or anything?
Was was it turn crank to allow fuel or something then put gasket and rocker on and start it?
@@itzjordxnhd9850 Elring is really good brand for seals.
After I adjusted the injectors to the spec, I turned the crankshaft for 2 full circles to be sure that everything is ok, the I changed the valve cover gasket and tighten the cover.
Before the start of the engine I turn the key for few times so the fuel pump can deliver fuel, then I start the engine.
The engine will straggle to star because lack of fuel, you can expect a bit of white smoke after first start.

Great Video! How to udnerstand when you wrenched to 3nm? Maybe i didnt understand what mean 3nm. First time trying something like that. :D
Use torque wrench
NM is newtonmeters. You might pe used with poundfeet. It;s the measure unit for Torque.
If you follow closely what happens in this video, sometimes he decides that the tightening required after the torque wrench is maybe too much, and he does a little less, maybe for fear of damaging the bolts...
What were the symptoms? Is the engine quieter after lash adjustment?
The symptoms was really rough start, shaking when idling and a lot of black smoke on high revs (this was because the injectors were dirty).
After a seals change and injector cleaning the car starts beautifully and really smoothly.

How much resistance should you time the injector for?
I turn it freely til the stop makes contact with the top then back 180 ? Or should I be looking for more resistance ?
Give it a bit off resistance, the injector have to be fully compressed, from that point you have to turn back for 180 degrees.
Let me know if you have more question.
@@audilover6591 thank you,
So wind it until it stops,(no force other than the spring resistance) and then back off 180?

You have to set the rockarm to the lowest point for the injector that you are adjusting, after that you screw the injector screw all the way till the injector spring is fully compressed, after that you unscrew the injector screw minus 180°.
Do the same procedure on all 4 injectors.

What symptoms did you have so you decided to change the seals on the nozzles? Can this be checked via VCDS?
I have a BMR Passat 125kw PD, end of 2007. The car pulls great, but the first morning ignition is longer (cranks over 6-7x) and if I leave it for 2 days then it is even longer cranking. When I turn it on for the first time, each next starting is fast (1-2x cranking), until 7-8 hours have passed then longer cranking again.
Someone tells me it could be the cylinder head, although mine has a C mark. It loses coolant, although my mechanic tells it leaking at the water pump. I'll do a belt replacement, a water pump so we can see if it stops leaking. There is no white smoke while driving, but when I start the car, if cranking longer then 7-8x then there is some white smoke but it disappears immediately. The engine runs quietly, in harmony. No smoke while driving. I changed the battery, repaired the starter, changed the seals and gasket on the tandem pump. Could there be a problem with seals on the nozzles?
