    The fed isn't looking to ban supplements, just require vendors to make honest claims about them.
    Why are you so eager to protect the right of pill makers to lie to you about what their products can do?

    As a direct result of these ad campaigns the regulations around Dietary Supplements and Herbals are incredibly loose.
    Like you can put literally anything on the shelf, and it's up to the government to prove its fraudulent or otherwise problematic to get it removed.
    As opposed to OTC products, which must prove they aren't bullshit to be put on the shelf in the first place.

Thousands more suffer organ damage, and then there's all of the wonderful side effects you hear in all those "Ask your doctor if this expensive-ass drug is right for you" ads. Don't even try to compare the dangers of pharmeceutical drugs with supplements.

    • @michaelsierra6313
      @michaelsierra6313 8 лет назад +15

      +SarionFetecuse And people still have that right. The FDA isn't trying to prevent what people put in their bodies. They are trying to prevent snake oil from being sold with unsubstantiated claims. It should NOT be legal to sell vitamin C with a label saying it is a cure for cancer. Doesn't mean you can't take vitamin C. They are just trying to prevent the sale of it with dubious claims. That's all. Take off the tin foil hat and enjoy life. Nobody's hiding under your bed. Nobody's trying to put computer chips in your brain.
      Also, being unregulated, it's been found that most supplements you purchase have very little of the intended ingredient. Regulating it will insure you are getting what you paid for.

    Michael - Some facts:
    1) Your father, Patrick Mooney, did not write the Mel Gibson "Raid" PSA. I did.
    2) It was not created by "dozens of entertainment industry folk". I wrote it, produced it and directed it with my own money that I advanced, therefore, taking a risk on something that I believed in. No one helped me during pre-production, in which I secured all the crew, equipment and location; or the production and post-production stages.
    3) However, your father, who's been a true gentleman working hard for the cause, tirelessly contacted people from the industry and over a period of two or three months was able to secure the funds to reimburse me for every dollar that I spent.
    4) Also, I need to point out that your father was instrumental in helping to secure Mel Gibson, which is of prime importance. He also scripted other materials intended for Congress featuring James Coburn, Whoopi Goldberg and other talent. As importantly, he was instrumental in the initial distribution of the PSA, which as everyone knows, took a wild flight on its own.
    Your father's help has always been greatly appreciated, every step of the way. I was going to let your comment ride, but I thought it was important to set the record straight. - Charles Ashira

It was so powerful that Peter Jennings and Connie Chun ran it on their national TV news programs and that could well be why the largest letter-writing campaign to Congress in history got Congress to pass a law to stop FDA from making dietary supplements into prescription items. Kudos to you, again!
