Great tutorial! Fast, fun, and comprehensive. Playing *Hoax* for the first time tomorrow and I know my gaming experience is gonna be better from seeing this video first.
So the only reason during a hoax vote that you would vote thumbs up is if you are convinced that they ARE who they say they are, or aren't willing to take that chance. Alternatively, the only reason you would choose thumbs down is if you firmly believe that they aren't who they say they are (either YOU are that person, or you have investigated them and know that wasn't in the 4 other cards) Very cool mechanic! Thanks for the overview!
Thanks for the video. I watched because I wanted to make sure I understood the rules, which it turns out I did. I just played a few rounds with a 3-person group and it suuuucked. I like Coup, but I wanted something a little more heavy, or deduction-based, so I was excited for this. But it seemed like we either had no information at all or all the information at once. The "claim" actions were really boring because we were basically either calling hoax on a guess just so something would happen, or accumulating resources gradually and uneventfully. And then after just a couple investigations some people knew enough to accuse with certainty while others still knew nothing. It was so weird. I had high hopes for this. Will play again with more people but was hoping it would be fun with 3.
Have you played this with both the fewest and maximum number of players possible? Does it play better or worse depending on how many players there are? My game group only consists of three people, including myself, so I often wonder if games such as this are better in larger groups. On a side note, while I am a fan of social deduction games usually, Coup just never appealed to me (in spite of giving it several play throughs), and I feel that Hoax replaces it hands down given the similarities between them. I feel the mechanics in this game work well, while the mechanics in Coup just seem unbalanced and clunky to me some how.
+princealarming85 I've only played this with 3 and 4 players. It worked ok with 3 but as with most social deduction games, the more players the better. It is definitely has a lot more to it than Coup. I don't actually like comparing the two because they play so differently in my opinion. -Wes
Thanks for the video but there's a mistake at 5:30. If you take an Accuse action and you're wrong, you are eliminated from the game and your resource and imposter tokens are returned to the supply. You do not give the tokens to your opponent as you demonstrated.
+Matthew Scott this one is great for that! Although I really recommend 4 people to get the full effect. A three player game is not as good. And you shouldn't have to preorder this, it is already available!
I bought hoax but I found a hugeeeeee flaw......with calling "hoax" on someone early on, your kinda revealing you're that character stated....rather wise how else would you know that info right? have you came across this?
+Idiah39520 yes! That is definitely a mistake people make a lot early on. You are much better documenting for later. It's better to have a little more info than that before you start calling people out.
This is also a comment, a comment because I just want to win, win a free game, ow wait, betrayal also looks awesome! Anyway, I want to win a free game, is it obvious? Ps: you guys rock 😎
Like someone else said, it's basically the Clue theme with Coup format.
Efficiently explained! Thank you.

+Chris Martin have fun man! Glad this helped! -Wes
This was a fab video. Hoping to try this game with my folks during lockdown tonight and I think showing them this will really help! Thanks!
Totally baffled by the rulebook, but now that I see it in the context of someone actually playing it, it makes much more sense. Thanks!
+Paul Mazzoni glad it helped! Don't forget to subscribe for more How to Plays and Reviews! -Wes
Yep! Already did.
+Paul Mazzoni 👍
Really interesting! I love these type of games.

+oneillsteph I would definitely recommend playing with more than three. Hope your next game goes better! -Wes
It looks like Coup and Clue kinda mixed together! And I love Coup! I have room in my game shelf for this one!!
+Dave R yea, that's a very fair assessment
This type of game is really my cup of tea! I've got to get my hands on this
+TheLadyrobe it's solid. :)
Also, Gamesville Tabletop looks like an awesome store.
+PINKPIRAHNA they are good people
Great video, way better to understand it now. Thanks :)
Happy to be of assistance!

+Sunny Neuroshima thanks for he heads up! Well add an annotation to fix this. -Wes
Sounds like a fun game!
Looks like I'll preorder this one. I like social deduction games but many of them require alot of people.

Thanks, will bare that in mind. I'm in New Zealand so stuff gets released a little later than the US and Europe.
+Matthew Scott ah, I understand now
Thanks... That really helps... I just bought the game... And I didn't know how to play it... The rule book is crap
+Doomed Gamer happy to help!
