Claire, Lithuania is the most unique of the three Baltic republics. Its got a unique history before it was part of the Soviet Union. Did you know it was an independent state - the Grandy Duchy of Lithuania during the Middle Ages? It later merged with Poland when their grand duke also became king of Poland into a state called the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. For over 2 centuries it was one of the largest European nations but it suffered from disastrous wars with neighbouring nations - Germany and Russia and disappeared from the map of Europe in 1795. Lithuania regained its independence briefly from 1918 to 1940 before being annexed by the Soviet Union. With the collapse of the Soviet Union it regained independence again in 1991. There is always fear that it will be annexed by Russia again since the Russian territory of Kaliningrag borders it on the southwest.
Hi Claire - i thoroughly enjoyed this video set to the background of your single "Daisy". Lithuania is such a beautiful country. I enjoyed the field of crosses, something unique - off the beaten path. I am looking forward to your video of Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital and your impressions of it.
Afternoon Claire how are you? I love hearing the beautiful sounds of your new song "Oh Daisy" which is so wonderful to hear! Thanks for sharing this amazing Lithuania vlog with me! 💛❤
Thank you Claire, for the impressions! To be honest, I am Lithuanian from Kaunas County, Jonava City, so I know a lot of these places in my home country. A fun fact: The portal that you saw in front of Vilnius Central Railway Station, not a long time ago, this summer in 2024 (can't really remember the specific date) started showing 2 more cities LIVE: + New York City and + Dublin. So it means that you can see every city for LIVE (Dublin, Lublin and New York City) for every 3 minutes from that portal. Remember! All those portals are connected by one connection. For example: If you are in NYC, you can see Dublin, Vilnius and Lublin for 3 minutes! Or, if you're in Dublin, you can also see LIVE for 3 minutes NYC, Lublin and Vilnius! Thank you Claire! ❤ 💛💚❤💙 💚🤍🧡
*The Hill of Crosses* is a unique and significant site in Lithuania, located near the city of Šiauliai. It symbolizes the Lithuanian nation's struggle for freedom and its fight for independence from the Soviet Union. Since the early 19th century, people began placing crosses, shrines, and other religious symbols on this hill. Over time, the Hill of Crosses became not just a religious site but also a political space, especially during the Soviet occupation. During the Soviet occupation, the Hill of Crosses became a symbol of resistance. Lithuanians placed crosses there not only as religious symbols but also as a protest against Soviet rule. The Soviet authorities repeatedly attempted to destroy the Hill of Crosses-crosses were bulldozed, the site was leveled and demolished. However, despite these actions, after each demolition, the crosses would reappear, often in even greater numbers. This persistent placement of crosses became a strong sign of the nation's resistance, showing that even under occupation, Lithuanians refused to give up their faith and desire for freedom. Today, the Hill of Crosses is not only a religious center but also a popular tourist destination. Tens of thousands of crosses of various sizes and shapes stand here, representing not only individual prayers and petitions but also the collective desire of the nation to be free. The Hill of Crosses, like the entire history of Lithuania, is a living testament to the nation's struggle for its identity and independence.
ok, will subscribe just because it seems you're making beautiful music. local here in Lithuania, been to Hill of Crosses, gruesome place, won't go there again, that place is for religious fanatics. Vilnius is full of boms. Come visit Kaunas, it's cleaner, nicer people, better restaurants, better everything
