Yes Denise is no dummy lol She has learned so much about catching fish this last year. I told her she is one lucky person to get educated on all kinds of fish! One thing about her is she tells me to back up when explaining as I take it for granite you should already know lol Big help to my channel
I lived in Mammoth Lakes back in the 80's and enjoyed countless times fishing on Crowley Lake. It's great to see the fishery doing so well so many years later as we were having to deal with huge algae blooms the last couple years I lived in the area. While we used slightly different techniques back then, we also didn't have the huge choice of artificial lures now available so I can't judge which is better. It was awesome to see you didn't keep every fish you caught, keeping only what you would eat for a dinner or two as that's the best way to keep any fishery productive for everyone. Thanks for letting me ride a few memories of my own while watching this video.
I grew up fishing the rivers and lakes in Mammoth and some of my happiest memories are bushwacking down the streams searching for trout. The whole area is so beautiful and sometimes bountiful and I'm so glad you have such good memories like me! Thanks very much for watching, Denise
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge! I’m raising Sac. Perch in my backyard aquaponics. Working to develop a S. Cal breeding colony. As well as fresh fish for the table.
I’ve never been to Crowley but growing up I always heard about trout opening daythere. I also remember reading about Sacramento perch being invasive and problematic, glad you found a good method of catching them and that they are tasty too! Very entertaining and informative video. Thanks!
The opener can be fantastic, depending on the water level but they do get trophy trout there. My Mom got a "Crowley Slam" (Rainbow, Brown and Cutthroat Trout) plus a bonus 2# perch! Some of the perch are big enough to steam or fry whole. - Denise
I'd look at the Fishing in the City program if you're in Sacramento and there are various kids focused events held in different areas sponsored by local organizations (search on the internet). Also look for the DFW plants in your local fishery and toss power bait or worms right near the boat launch or wherever they planted and, if in a river, salmon eggs. Thanks for watching! - Denise
Thanks. Nice tutorial video on fishing Sacramento Perch. Love the video. Will have to try it soon. The water in the river looks pretty high and fast. Any recommendations on where to stay ? Camping ?
If you go after August 1 then no bait allowed but I'd try to find schools and spoon with Kastmasters. We camped at Crowley Lake Fish Camp and it's right next to the boat launch and fish cleaning station and you can dock your boat there. But it's super windy in the afternoon so if you want to hang around camp outdoors, I'd look into nearby campgrounds across the road. Thanks for watching! :) Denise
It's about four hours from Sacramento and less than half an hour from Mammoth Lakes so makes a great long weekend trip. I've had friends go just for the day, diehards, lol. Thanks for watching! - Denise
I just found out on the internet Sacramento perch is on the endangered species list in the Sacramento and San Joaquin river and I did not know they have those in the lake
Fly fishing in Crowley is mostly done by midging as the hatch rises up off the bottom of the lake. Crowley is a destination lake for fly fisherman and you'll catch perch and trout. The local tackle shop at the boat launch has flies tied for the current hatch. Thanks for watching! - Denise
Sure can, try the left hand side of the point at Crowley Lake Fish Camp. And if the water is high enough, at the back of the cove right behind the docks (there's a buoy line separating the boat/no fishing area). Also, ask in the tackle shop for up to date info. The perch need to be in the shallows and weeds to catch from shore. Thanks for watching and the best of luck! Denise
Not yet, we're going mid-June. The water temperature has to be around 60 degrees for the perch to gather up in the shallows to spawn and also there needs to be weeds. It's been cold at night and windy so I'd guess the water temp is suboptimal. - Best of luck, Denise
We went in the beginning of June and the perch derby was on at that time so they expect the perch to be in the shallows. They school up in the shallows depending on water temperature and weed growth. For example, last year the heavy rains meant that the water was very cold so the spawn was delayed. Friend went in August and limited the whole boat. This year will be different as Crowley didn't even ice over. I'm going again in mid-June as I think they will start to school up in the shallows around this time. Best of luck! - Denise
Was there a month ago , couldn't catch trout because these little bastards kept hitting my lures ! Very delicious but a pain to clean, scales like steel armor

Nice Catch 🎣
But Crowley Lake is a long drive from Sacramento just north of Bishop CA off Highway 395.

Yeh, we're lucky to be able to fish these big perch and they're abundant in Crowley. Thanks for watching! - Denise

Nice 👍 . IT’s recently? Never been there
We were there first week of June this year. Thanks for watching! -Denise
@@AlanFong normally what would be the best time go there are they like crappies the cooler the better?
Can you catch these from shore?

@@AlanFong Thanks for the info Denise! 🙏🙏🙏
Back in the early 2000s we caught over 300 fish
You can still do it today
Son is fishing there today. Trolling for trout first, and then Sac Perch fishing. Did you & your family go up this season so far?

Alan will always be THE Rodfather but he's generous with his knowledge. Thanks for watching! - Denise
What month was this video filmed? If it's later in the summer say in July are they still around?
I'll have to ask Denise when did they went but you can look up the opener and she went the following week.
We went in the beginning of June and the perch derby was on at that time so they expect the perch to be in the shallows. They school up in the shallows depending on water temperature and weed growth.
