    Chicken quarters are still the cheapest, but I used to get them for $5 for a 10lb bag, and then because they weren't as popular as chicken breast they'd get clearanced and I could pick them up for $3. I miss that a lot, I buy them and split them into single and double packs for the freezer, or cook all of them at once to put shredded meat in the freezer, use the bones for broth. There's such a great value with quarters, and they are way cheaper and easier to work with than a whole chicken.

    • @breannahorton
      @breannahorton 2 года назад +3

      As a side note for anyone new to buying chicken quarters, those bags are "10 lbs" so there's always going to be the 10lbs but as they aren't processing them more they wont cut one in half to make it exact. If you want to be the person like I am, pick them all up- there's going to be heavier ones. It might be the difference of one bag having 10.1lbs and one having 11lbs. Also count the quarters in the bag- the bones add to the weight so for equal weight the one with 7 will have less meat than one with 6

      I love those 10 lb bags of leg quarters and pick them up whenever i can.

      I found chicken quarters at WM for .99/lb a couple months ago and I bought 10 pounds for the freezer. Deals are definitely out there, it’s more fun when you have a stocked freezer and can cherry pick the best deals.

    I would never have thought to freeze mashed potatoes in swirled piles on a pan, that's a great idea!

    • @JenniferPerryMyScraproom
      @JenniferPerryMyScraproom 2 года назад

      A time saver that I like to do is to make mashed potatoes and squish them flat in a gallon size baggie - THEN I mix up a meatloaf (raw) and squish it flat into a separate gallon size baggie and then freeze both and store together in the freezer. When I am feeling super lazy I can just take them out to defrost. The cook in the oven same time and temperature for my oven so it is easy peasy. Just add a salad and done!

    Thanks for this weeks video…I only shop once a month for my groceries as I’m on an incredibly tight budget…so no shopping this week.
    However I did write down our most common meals so this week I’m breaking them down onto recipe cards so I can then make my food storage inventory sheet and start shopping sales (and the one for now 2 for later)…putting what you’ve taught me into practice!

    Hi! I'm reorganizing my pantry and cleaning the floors. I only work on it a few times a week. I didn't work on it at all today, because I've been canning. I canned tomatoes from my garden and I went shopping earlier today and bought bulk sausage and I canned that too. I found a 5 pound bag of potatoes that I had misplaced that had a ton of eyes. Every. Single. Potato. So I stuck them in the ground and added that to my garden. They are doing beautifully and I'm honestly shocked because I started them in early summer. I think I'll have plenty of potatoes!

    We have a small house. 1-car garage, no basement (south FL), so I have very limited storage space. I have one 7-cft deep freezer, and the side/side fridge/freezer in the kitchen. I'm considering making room for a second deep freezer in our laundry room, but that will make things feel very squeezed in there. If only we had a crystal ball, right? For now, I'm as stocked as I can be on chicken breasts (the meat we eat most of), so my ongoing approach to chicken is to buy a flat pack every ten days or so, and meal prep three breasts for the week (on salads for lunch, plus dinner the night I grill it), and freeze the other 2-3 breasts. It's allowing me to stay stocked, and still keep monthly grocery spending down.

    Kimmy, how does the price of the dried butter compare to super market butter? Is it a $ savings?

    Kimmy, do you take your price book with you when shopping so you can remember the best price? Hope you show us how to do the price book soon. I've been going back thru all the videos taking notes. Been getting lots of info and motivation from your videos!

    For tortillas you can take a pack of 10 and roll each of them up into the shape of a straw and freeze. Keep in same bag they came in and take one or two out at a time as needed :)
