Your neighbours are all going to have one of the biggest OMG moments of their lives when they finally see what you're dogged determination is actually all about.
Hey guys. First of all, I'm SO happy for you both to finally be able to have a "normal" shower or bath! Woohoo! I am an artist and a former art supply store owner and I'd like to give some feedback on the whole linseed oil on wood and the mention of creating on oil paint for the ceilings...... While it's all based on what I know for fine art and managing your materials, I'm fairly certain that the information transfers to what you are doing..... So, for what it's worth.... When applying the linseed oil, less is more. I understand the ease of using the brush. When pre-treating a support for traditional oil painting, it's usually small enough one can use ones fingers to massage it into the support to insure there is no excess oil. You are correct in wiping it down. HOWEVER, going forward, if you plan on doing this again, I HIGHLY suggest you pre-treat your boards and then let them sit. It's best to let it cure for at least 3 days before applying anything on top of that. With regard to making paint for your ceilings. Are you trying to make actual paint that's going to cover it opaquely or are you looking for a transparent appearance? If you are looking for opaque, you need to know if the pigment you are getting is opaque. Not all are and many are actually semi-opaque/semi-transparent. Making oil paint is a process!!!! You'll need a glass mueller and surface to mull the pigment into paint. You know how when you bake you gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients? Well, this is the reverse. You are starting with dry pigment and you want to slowly add in the oil and mull it to insure the pigment particles don't lump into balls and you make a thick paste and then keep adding the oil to get it to the consistency that you want. If you are looking at making a paint that is the consistency of most paints you buy at the store, this can take a while! I'd suggest thinking about buying it vs. making it to be honest. The other route is to start with already made artist's oil paints and then thin that down, which is also a gradual process. NOW. If you're looking for more of a tint of colour in a transparent look, there is a product called Unicorn Spit that can be diluted 50% with water to stain wood and it comes in crazy and wonderful colours, that can also be mixed together. As it is water based, you would do that step first, and then seal with the linseed oil. Lastly, keep in mind there are also chalk and milk paint options that you can do on the wood (first also) and then seal with the linseed oil. I'm definitely NOT trying to discourage you, I just want you to know there are various options and things to consider that you may not have thought of just yet and as you mentioned it, it's something I am happy to advise on before you do it as there have been a few things we all see after a video is up and the job is done and so chiming in with an opinion makes no sense. However, I know you have plenty more to do in the house and will be treating more boards going forward and so wanted to give the tip on pre-treating and also the paint option. Lastly, YES! Thank you for mentioning how flammable linseed can be. It seems the thinner it is is the issue as you'd have a hard time setting fire to a tube of oil paint on purpose, believe it or not. I do know a few artist's who's wash rags combusted in their studios..... It could also be the combination of mineral spirits with the linseed when thinning or cleaning that adds to that issue. Anyhoo, feel free to reach out if you'd like more information or advise on this particular subject as it's one I'm actually versed in and rarely can impart the knowledge to anyone as it's normally not a thing for most😂
I was waiting for this shower and bath so much, almost feeling like waiting for my own 😅 So, it was amazing to watch this video and incredibly beautiful result 🎉🎉🎉
Next time you seal any plumbing related threads, use Hemp thread sealant. It's extremely efficient. Lasts forever, and if you need to turn your thread back again for positioning, it doesn't lose its sealing properties. Your bathroom looks excellent btw. Well done!
@@claudestuder4199 I’m really hoping we don’t have too much more plumbing in our future 😂 I’ve looked a couple of times for hemp but they only seem to have synthetic fibres here (and I no longer trust the stuff on Amazon to be authentic)
The only words that I can come up with is, "this is so satisfying". Many years later you can enjoy this beautiful bathroom . A vision to reality ❤. Happy birthday Guy 🎉 Watching from South Africa Mosselbay
You're attic is divine! I watch all the renovations by you Brits in Portugal & Ireland. Your work is of such a high standard & I knew from the start it would be divine. You are meticulous. Can't wait to see the end result.
I love the innuendos make a return! You have made such great progress! Definitely more to go but wowzers! It looks stunning! I am so happy for you both! Yay!
So happy birthday and well done. I love watching you guys do redo and do again. The results are so well worth your effort. You can be proud of yourselves as the finished product is amazing.
It looks beautiful and we all know that you've done it all perfectly..... I'm sure you enjoyed your first bath/shower..... it doesn't take long to get used to having indoor amenities.... enjoy the novelty!
This has been a long time coming! So happy for you both! A lot of hard work! You two remind me of my late wife and I as we worked on projects. Thank you!! Keep up the great content.
Congrats on this milestone! It looks fantastic. Kylie, there are so called non-slip foam cushion for bathtubs that might solve the problem. I have a similar bathtub and these cushions are helpful.
Yah what a feat!!!!! Not all bathrooms are made equally! That was a lot of creative thinking and sourcing products to make things work. It’s done! It looks so nice. I love the color and the accessories.
The poinsettia, wood wine rack, wood cover over the bath and shower accessories are beautiful. The white ceiling and border/edging add so much contrast to those stunning green/gray wall tiles. Can't wait to see everything complete!
I use to have a bath on my birthday. As we did in Bolton. Our iron tub was fabulous. You are lucky, height of luxury. But you have worked damned hard to get here over the four years. Excellent progress. Enjoy your birthday treat.
Happy birthday, Guy! And happy day of finishing one more segment of this gorgeous bath. I'm in love with the ceilings. It's the bit of extra charm that makes the room. Cheers for another successful install.
Congratulations on getting one end complete 😃. It does look wonderful. The main thing is it works and you can have a bath/shower indoors👍😝. Belated Happy Birthday 🎉Guy🤗🇬🇧
Happy birthday Guy…. Can’t believe it’s 4 years, since we last seen the pink bathroom 😂 what a massive improvement… both need to take time to appreciate the achievement and slog it took to get there… well deserved glass (or more ) of vino 🎉🙌🏼
Seing you happy (yet tired), working, while making us laugh, learn, and share this journey with you is a magnificent christmas present, in advence ! rare thing on a construction site. Well done indeed, congratulation :)
Yes, Zinsser Bin is generally available for purchase in Portugal, although it might be harder to find in smaller stores and may need to be ordered online or through specialized paint retailers; you can usually find it under the brand name "Zinsser B-I-N" as it is marketed across Europe. Key points to remember: Availability: While not as readily available as in some other European countries, Zinsser Bin is generally accessible in Portugal. Check online retailers: If you can't find it locally, most online paint retailers in Portugal should be able to supply Zinsser Bin. Brand name: In Portugal, it is usually marketed as "Zinsser B-I-N".
Nowhere that we’ve been to, or looked at online, can provide it, and Zinsser themselves say they don’t have distributors in Portugal. Maybe its possible to find/order in some bigger cities but not where we are
@@markpaperhanger2481 we had MANY discussions about leaving the ceiling naked 😃 (it’s spruce rather than pine and has some really lovely tones). But in the end we decided it would clash too much with the oak, both the lintels that are already in and also the window boards and shelf above the sink that have yet to be done. The door to the room will also be the original timber one … undecided as to whether that will be naked or painted
@ I was asking from the point of view that clear pine could be painted as well and there would be no concern for knot bleeding through the finish Any way I really enjoy the approach you take to the project as a couple and think the content is fun and informative! My first thought on those center drain tubs was "it looks impractical." You have confirmed my bias. Congrats on indoor showering. It's been a long time coming and the room looks worth the effort.
What an achievment guys, you deserve more than a hot bath with a few glasses of wine. Happy Birthday Guy and enjoy your hot shower as a presi. ❤️ Can’t wait for more. 👍🏿👍👍🏾

Congrats! I don't think I have ever been so happy to see a completed shower and bath! Lol! It looks wonderful and I am glad that you have an additional comfort in your home. I have loved seeing the progress that you have made. I think I started watching when you started the circle platform for the yurt...and you had done some demo in the bathroom.
