Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Some of my best teachers said they didn’t want us to remain their students forever and wanted us to leave whether to grow elsewhere or be able to do things ourselves.
I was practicing for a bicycle certification test by riding on a very, very challenging skills course. I was in practice mode and kept practicing until one of the instructors, looking slightly irritated, told me to just take the exam already. He knew that I was ready and could pass it, before I even realized it.
My website development teacher said about at the half-time of the course, that he won't teach us everything he knows, because that way he'd train "potential opponents against himself" on the market... 💀💀💀
There are all different kinds of teachers, as Sheila said. But she belongs to the good ones.
@@balazsi.8459 A person like that does not fall under the defintion of "teacher" in my opinion.
Hear, hear.
As a fellow near-deather, I’ve found it’s incredibly liberating to realize that I should probably just focus on being myself while I’m still here, and any obstacles along the way are entirely out of my control so why dwell on them 🤷♂️
Just try our best with what we’ve got, and hope our net effect on this planet was positive once it’s finally time to leave
This is a wonderful interview, not just for artists but for anyone pursuing a more fulfilling life.
_So well said._
I can't live without art, or artists. I tried.
I shouldn't have tried.
I'm expecting the answer to be proactivity, patience or repetition. As Bruce Lee once said, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.". I probably didn't need to use that quote, but it's awesome.
A great interview on self motivation. Her delivery is refreshing and edgy because the truth is rare as majority live in fear.
She is crazy smart. It’s refreshing.
Lord, this channel brings THE BEST people, always, and exemplifies the courage in its title.
"Memento mori" is a gift.
Cheers L.W.!
No1 thing is knowing the right people
Whoever has Sheila as their mentor is lucky ❤ I'm new to the film and story-telling industry and I love this channel so much
Women have nothing to offer the arts
She has a type A personality and is a natural born leader.
Good
Conversation +at some time you need to step out -leaveclassrooms behind and venture forth - prepare for success
I don't think this is as described, it seems more about acting than art generally.
this interview and insight is so good. Thank you!
She's so interesting to listen to, something about the way she expresses herself is mesmerising. I could sit here for hours.
Me TOO! You put it perfectly.
More to come!
I love her! She’s so awesome. She has such a great mindset, but she’s also well grounded in reality. I would love to have a beer with her.
What do you think about the traits most successful artists share?
The willingness to put 'themselves' on the line, rain, hail or shine! (I believe Sheila called it 'failing forward'!)
Rich/connected parents.
Famous artists know their craft and they have to know and trust [God and] themselves. Because, sometimes you have to pray when you run out of your own power; yes, at times you need some of God's help, and take a long walk or a long ride on your motorcycle, far away. I believe I will be successful; will they like my material? That I leave to God, if I did my Job right in pulling at the hearts of mankind it will.
My Grandfather (Pollie) used to put subtitles in movies in Spain and Puerto Rico. He said, "If a movie doesn't make me cry [with good reason, even for joy], it isn't a good movie." That's what he said, in Spanish, to us.
We need to stop pleasing the trendy culture, and just tell what truth will touch an innocent little child. However if we try to pervert the [public] child, God will cause a sink hole to swallow us up and our stupid stories. I'm not kidding, he has already brought many to their knees, producers and directors to poverty or death. Watch a good old wholesome movie of the past, then look within.
Examine yourselves, are you feeding your minds with life and truth and the warding off of evil? Remember it was The Cross [with Christ on it] that killed Dracula in the very old, old stories, not muscles, superhero's and special effects.
Van Helsing [the Vampire killer] use the Cross to subdue the Vampire's then drove the 'Stake' through the heart to finish them off, because Jesus Christ has power and victory over the devils everywhere, and even everywhere in the Bible as well. The Bible has a very happy ending for believer's, but not for deniers of Christ.
Pipe organist J.S. Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude [and some of today's organists] made the Devil flee when they played the notes which glorified the Savior Jesus Christ. So, if we glorify good and the victory to the good from trouble and peril in our stories then are we pleasing God, and pleasing humanity with divinely inspired fables of love, joy, truth and salvation.
"When the salt has lost its savor, it is good for nothing, but to be trampled on, or to be thrown away," Jesus said. [instead of being shelved to see the story again]. -- So, when the salt of the earth is gone [God's people/truth/story] then the earth will only produce sour grapes and stupid stories; is what I [JB] say. Add salt to your stories and a little spice, not too much, just enough for the right flavor and many will come to see the plain and common, unassuming hero win in the end with some very needed but beloved helpers. Hurray, I will pay to see it again and again. Amen.
Peace in Christ, to all who believe. JB
Their gender is male :)
Passion.
‘Trust yourself’ put in a words that actually make sense. Love this gal!
She is very bright in terms of intuition 👌
Love this n timely for me, thank u
This was very profound. Great interview
Another Great Interview from Film Courage. ; )
Yesssss! I recently asked someone who was soliciting new students for their expensive class what qualifications they might possess. Crickets. Hmmm.. (I was polite.)
She is cool, love her message
What a refreshing person, as well as being insightful with respect to the psychology of writing and creativity.. and speak of the devil dragging a swag bag of irony, the next video begins with an ad for McD.
In-group preference.
Sheila said it well. Thanks Karen.
Whew!! Ms. Karen never miss!!! Shelia is a wise lady ❤
I choose to live as myself.
At the end of the day, it is the start of the night.
I love you sheila
Dont know her but so bright ! Inciteful and uplifting
THISSS!! 💫💛
I agree with everything she says. Life doesn't have a rewind button. When it's over, it's over. There's ONE way, as an artist, that you can live forever: Leave behind a work of art that will last through the ages. THAT will make you immortal.
The very need to be immortal is one from the ego. You don't need to be immortal.
@@ravenswood118 intrinsic motivation > extrinsic motivation
@@EpicHomeMoviez what does that have to do with anything
@@ravenswood118 Not a need. A desire.
that was beautiful
Ironically, this thoughts drove me into another conclusion.
We're not eternal so do books, films and other stuff. Our birth rate is bumping up and you can't guarantee that this new people will know you. The amount of information rapidly growing, more people then ever can draw, write music and stories. You, small you, are trying to play against time. But we all know what will be in the future.
Some times I can't sleep until 3 a.m. until I fall from tiredness because this day I didn't do anything important.
i like this Girl. i tell stories on my channel, i am currently telling a story series, Crime Drama. its very compelling.
Thank you Sheila Houlahan, Thank you. -- What you said is a confirmation of my thinking; to just be yourself, as long as you know what you're doing and have done enough of what you know to do, just do it, and do it your way. I believe that's what you're saying in a nut shell. I have to add [in edit] that she is right, "We all will die one day." And that we should make the best with what we have in this life before that day comes. I believe she knows the man that resurrected from the dead and gives eternal life to all who are willing to believe and be born again. You can only be confident about death if you know [Jesus Christ] him. Amen. -- Thanks' again. JB
Rich parents and a privileged education. That's the main thing you need.
I love the sarcasm in her subtext and expressions! Good Advise!
Love her energy and she is so beautiful.
This is the most attractive person I’ve ever listened to in my entire life.
She's charismatic as fuck too.
My God this girl is damn awesome! I see myself in this in so many ways maybe it's my Aquarius vibe since a kid searching for the meaning behind the veil, questioning the rules even from kindergarten I was a hard to handle kid for asking too many questions or just skipping classes for something more interesting cause I was bored to tears:))) well anyways....
As in art, I think originality is everything. And it takes guts. There are artists who take art to the grotesque even just to shake the box a little or bring new perspectives and some of them for being misunderstood become famous/successful not for the true value of their work, but for being controversial. I look at Jordan Peele and his niche movies, an Aqua Mars by the way :) not my taste, but definitely he's something else, a breath of fresh air. Authentic, courageous and a brand.
Originality is not bringing pieces of something old and putting them together as in Titanic meets The Gladiator. Originality is the very connection to the Source, it's channeling, and complete authenticity of your own voice.
There's definitely a spiritual shift in every new generation and nowadays young people raise the standards, are way more profound, complex thinkers, and self-aware.
She reminds me of Joan of Arc.
damb I love this chick
Who are you?
selling out lel
I think most artists can’t afford to be a part of anything.
I say this on a Daily basis we’re all gonna be dead one day 😂
I could’ve had kids and Married I think the big guy in the sky help me dodge a bullet on that….I’m not sure yet.
I’m pretty pissed. A lot of insanely hard work and stress with no outcome. Everything is the opposite of what you’ve been told I am living proof i get Bombarded with questions and I run out of words to explain it the average person doesn’t really know, they go to any job that will help them raise their children pay their bills etc and they think i most be wealthy they don’t understand why I don’t have anything/why I have nothing on the market but they don’t understand that that’s what it is (a market) I have to explain that there’s no fat guy in a suit with a cigar and a ponytail (Mr Big/Franky Sharps) that magically offers people some kind of deal and boom you’re somebody now with everything you need. People think it’s almost a magic thing like you’re Discovered and Whisked away to fame and fortune LOL because you can do something’s that’re pretty cool. At the end of the day that’s all it is a pretty cool song, a pretty cool story, a pretty cool character cause that’s all it is unless you have the money for it to be everywhere for everybody to see. Time is extremely Valuable I should be doing nothing like fishing (no stress) just let the world turn. Who cares about the population who cares about anything.
(My word’s) Let the sand fall through my fingers, let it all gather at the bottom of the glass.
Knowing who you are doesn't pay bills. It only gives you the fortitude to endure living in a box on the street and bathing in a drinking fountain when you fail at reaching for your dreams. Because reaching for your dreams requires a capital infusion because nobody is going to give you a grant or a loan, so you'll have to do it yourself. It's a risk but like any gamble, you risk your entire roll as the hand goes on and if you lose, you'll never get back to the table again because you only get one chance to raise the buy-in. After that, all your capital goes to the debt you accrued when you crashed and burned.
The system is set up to penalize people for following their true self. You need money to weather that storm and the trick is to not lose yourself in the swell.
She’s my kind of person. What a woman
I know she talked about a lot of things, but I can't help but notice her beauty. She looks like the leading female character in a period movie. Kinda like the pride and prejudice vibe.
Sheila Houlahan, I'm so curious if you believe in God. Do you?
so?....teaching kids to be predictable like the Harrison fords, and Nicholas cages, and John travoltas, and Tommy lee jones, and Samuel Jackson style?.. is a style really what you should be teaching kids? how about teaching them to be their own style and own person? how about teaching creativity and individuality? isn't that what we champion our icons for?!
She wasn't saying that. Harrison Ford is Harrison Ford. She's advocating for people to be themselves and use their uniqueness.
That's literally what she just said lmfao she brought them up as examples lmfao
Dont worry she has no idea what she is saying.
Life is the most precious thing. Be careful with each other and your selves. We are all valuable and wonderful.
She displays too much of body language even for simple words and expression!!!
