CSX Railroad Switching In Florida, Shoving Into Winston Yard & Amtrak Trains At Railroad Crossings

- Huge CSX Freight Leaves The East Leg Of Winston Yard Wye, Big Train Does Railroad Switching & Shunting With Conductor Riding The Rear Car Over The Railroad Crossing And Into The Yard. Also Includes Amtrak In Downtown Lakeland, Florida At A Quad Gate Railroad Crossing. These trains are in Lakeland, Florida on CSX.
I heard some railroad switching on my scanner when I was approaching Lakeland, Florida so I decided to go to the north end of Winston Yard to see if I could get anything. Right we I arrived I noticed a couple of railfans and a train was just leaving Winston Yard on the east leg of the wye. I filmed it on the way to downtown Lakeland and beyond. One Railfan was from the area and the other was visiting from Canada. Both recognised me. Lol
About an hour after the first train a second train showed up coming from the Tampa area. This train was on the main line. It cut off the rear auto racks and then pulled past me. Notice the signal in the distance drop from yellow to red. The train then reversed onto the east leg of the wye. It backed into Winston Yard. This huge train had the railroad crossing fowled for a long time. Most of the cars were turning around and going a different route.
After these two trains we see some wildlife videos shot by Mrs Tooth. Most of the remaining video from this point to the end was filmed by her. We see alligators, an armadillo, tortoises and some birds. One bird caught a fish and walked down a trail in front of us with the fish speared through its beak.
Don't miss the two Amtrak trains that Mrs Tooth filmed going through Lakeland. You can see me filming the first one to the left side of the picture. Notice the last Amtrak train has 3 brand new Siemens Charger locomotives. That was pretty cool seeing 3 on the same train coming from Tampa. The railroad crossing is in a no train horn zone.
Don't forget the slide show at the end that comes from the video. Best frequencies for Lakeland are 160.590 and 160.230. Most of the park video is from the Circle B Bar Reserve. The part with the long wooden walkway is from a park near Wauchula but I forgot the name. The rest is from a park near Mulberry. Most days we would go to the parks in the morning and later on in the day go look for trains. We also saw beaches on post sides of the state during the week that we were in Florida. We stayed in the Best Western motel in Mulberry since it has a great view of a CSX phosphate branch. The best frequency for the branch here is 161.370 and I use the EOT frequency for this line also. I filmed this with my Iphone 10.

That was a fairly long CSX mixed freight with a well worn Soo Line covered hopper near the front. I think he was trying to make up for the flying trains yesterday. 😂 😊😊😊❤❤❤

You caught two trains at that wye that comes out of Winston Yard in Lakeland, Florida that filled the contents of this video, Jaw Tooth! Both trains were manifest freight trains, so we had the opportunity to see various kinds of freight cars on each train. The animals in the refuges were interesting to see. I remember that you and Mrs. were at the refuge with the wooden walkway last year. The walkway looks familiar. The Amtrak trains that appear near the end of the video were good catches.

At 24:50 there is a NOKL boxcar. Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad is a short line RR(5 miles of track) in Woodward, OK. Mostly a switching operation for local businesses to BNSF, they apparently own a lot of railcars. I have seen them from NY to Mexico, and now in Florida.

Here in WV, we don't see many trains, probably because it's on the other side of the river. Then the horns just blare, and they're beautiful.

When you think of Florida rail traffic over the years how it shifted from passengers and produce to Aggregates and phosphate as well as Intermodal and scrap metal. Some of those track layouts are just so strange but space can be at a premium and land down there is not that cheap. More fun than an amusement park with all the used Freight cars and some with unique purposes plus all the wild and we do mean Wildlife action that isn't back in Ohio

You probably know this, but on the north side of Winston Junction is the Silver Moon Drive-In Theater. I usually go to the Joy-Lan Deive In in Dade City.

What's up JT. Soon it will be warm again up here . JT I'm seeing an engine on the c.s.x tracks . It's a S.D. 40 AND THE REGULAR DYNAMIC BRAKE BULGE IS GONE FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ENGINE . To me it seems that 3 to 7 minutes is the most ideal time for a train to go by. Trains that take less than that just zip by and longer ones begin to eat up my camera memory.
Thats the preferred time for me also. If the train is too slow like in this video the average view time will be low. However, if you are trying to make money on RUclips, the longer the video the more you will make because they will put more commercials in it. I use three cameras and my wife has one also.

Nice filming JT. Do yo know, how far does the locomotive on a big consist like that one getting shunted, actually have to move before the last car starts moving? Looked like they got caught with the train stopping and stretching, but I could be wrong. Those alligators look mean! That turtle was fairly moving! All the best JT, keep taking it easy just now. As slow as them trains go, they can tag them with spray paint on the fly.!
