    Most companies REQUIRE a degree for most of their positions. Without it you just can't get in. Period. It's a primitive way of weeding people out because there are SO many applicants for most job openings. They often don't even care what the degree is, so a degree isn't useless. It opens doors.

      Yes it’s very primitive. Because in my experience it can get the least qualified candidate a position solely on a technicality. I can’t remember if I mentioned this in the video but yes… it was a golden ticket to a job. For that … it works. Thanks for checking out the content Joe

    Love that you knew exactly what you wanted from the start. Killer vision. Also, I really like that your idea behind this video is much more universal than just UI/dev/UX. I totally empathize with your message. Cheers. Good content, man!!!

      Thanks for watching. Yes this applies everywhere. . . There used to be a time when you could just learn a craft ... Go do it and Excel. The structures of today can slow down creativity

    I can't believe SpaceJam.com is still active! Back when navigation was on the left inside a frame.
    100% agree on education. I tell people all the time that you don't need a degree for most of these things. Especially not the way these educational institutions. I got my first job in television because of volunteer work I had done at a local station and not because of my education. I now work in more of an IT development environment with no formal training in this area. Sometimes I get that imposter syndrome because I am not formally educated like some of my peers, but i have to keep pushing past that every day and tell myself that I belong here.

      Man this sparked a passionate conversation with my classmates from college and highschool on Facebook. It's important that we don't try to apply college to everyone. It is a means not THE means

      Thanks Johnny I use epidemic sound for my music. The song is called 'New Wave of Independence' by Martin Landh kind of a fitting title right? 😁 Thanks for watching

    Hi Jason, I am seriously considering to change my career (from Engineering) to either UX/UI or Web Development (I have 0 experience or education on either of them). My interest is bigger for UX/UI but through a lot of researching I found out that it is extremely hard to find Intern/Junior UX/UI job. On the other hand, Web Dev, there are more Intern/Junior Jobs (comparatively more than UX/UI) and pays more than UX/UI.
    It is like.. my heart is saying UX/UI and my head is saying Web Dev. I am planning to apply for intense 3-6 months bootcamp programs.. and am getting so much stress for deciding which program to apply for as this program is really really expensive and it will be one of the most important decision in my life..
    I would like to hear what you think.... please get back to me if you see this!
    Best Regards,
    Danny

      Hi Danny! Thanks for the comment. the good news is UX/UI and Web Dev often overlap in the workforce. but you should know that UX often falls into a 'research' role from my experience. So if it's the visual end result that you are passionate about UX may not be best for you. UI is designing those elements you see and use which is more like front end web development. it really depends on your tastes... sometimes UX folks get paid more because it focuses more on the science of making web products or apps funnel through to some result. In my opinion Web Development, weather its front end or back end is more rewarding as you are making things. hit me up on Twitter or IG I'd love to chat more. good luck with bootcamp. really embrace working with others... that's the best thing about those.👊🏾👍🏽

    Jason what sort of internships did you get before graduating? What did you learn after graduating, but before getting a job?

    • @iamjasonthompson
      @iamjasonthompson  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Audi. I got an internship doing software testing before being officially hired. Some don't like it because it didn't invlove coding but it did put me in front of software problems in a 'software delivery life cycle' or SDLC. It's a nice way to get your foot in the door and if you aspire to be a developer it will show you the QA (Quality assurance side) after graduation I focused on teaching myself HTML and CSS... It was years ago so JavaScript didn't seem as important. I could talk all day on this... I'll do a video to tell you more. Thanks for the comment!
