    Retired Air Force MSgt here, thank you for your service. I really enjoyed your video! I like it when people tell you what they are doing as they do it, rather than spend 10 or 15 minutes telling you what they are going to do before doing anything. I've never done powercarcarving before, but now think I'll give it a shot! Great video and explanation and beautiful wavy flag! I'm a new subscriber.

      You inspired me to try the wavy flag! Made two so far and am very pleased with the results. I plan on making one more. Two are going to my veteran brothers (blood) and one for myself. I have made over 180 standard flags and have given a majority of them area veterans. I have made Maltese firefighter badges, police badges and dozens of patriotic crosses. With your talent you may want to make the firefighters wooden cross. Thanks for your service brother!

    That exact knife is a great idea! Ive made 3 so far and love doing them, waiting for my Kutzall disc to see if it cuts my time a bit more than my cheap 30 dollar Amazon set of discs. So far they've all turned out amazing and even sold one. Ive found the Scotch blue (Edge Lock) series works the best for sealing out anything, Ive tried the green Frog tape, orange tape and this Scotch blue WITH Edge Lock works the best and haven't had any bleed through using it.

    That looks phenomenal man. Great job. I have done a regular flag, but not a wavy flag. You inspired me to give it a try. I hate that stain bleed, but you showed a way to fix it. Thanks for the video and linking all the stuff you used to get it done. Hopefully mine will turn out great like yours did.The gloss really makes it pop like you said.

      Thank you. That’s definitely a method I’ve tried. It requires a higher level of precision during the glue-up.

  • @chrism5487
    @chrism5487 2 года назад

    Welcome to my life! On a busy week I make 4 of these a day. I'm happy to see that you and make them in almost the exact same way. I made a cheat template for myself with marks one inch apart, 13 marks and I use the same method for putting on the stars with a penciled outline stars and Dremel 4000. The only part we differ is that I don't glue my flag together before I carve out the waves. Just two clamps holding it together. Then I take the clamps off and burn and stain the red stripes. Then I assemble it altogether again and paint on the union and do the stars. Right now I use a spray on polyurethane but I'm seriously considering using polyurethane from a can. Good job

    • @ReadySetBuildIt
      @ReadySetBuildIt  2 года назад +1

      Thank you. Yeah it was definitely a learning process. I actually toyed with the idea of carving clamped first as I’ve seen a few do on RUclips. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get my glue up just right and not have an opportunity to sand them smooth. Have you found any issues with alignment after the fact? If not, how did you avoid the bad alignment potential?

    • @chrisisnowliftingstuff3248
      @chrisisnowliftingstuff3248 2 года назад

      @@ReadySetBuildIt yeah the bad alignment is potentially there. I would say 1 out of every 5 or 6 flags don't line up perfectly but it isn't really noticeable. To me, it is really noticable because I tend to see all the flaws and am pretty judgemental about my work. So when I paint or burn the separate stripes, I paint and burn about 1/4 inch on the sides as well so it helps to camouflage any potential misalignment and no bare plain wood spots are visible. I find it's quicker to paint the stripes separately then dealing with the tape and touch up afterwards.

    I enjoy this video format for builds like this and your flag came out great. But I wanted to say one thing about your video editing, I found the music to be a little too loud at times. I was turning up my volume to hear you talk but had to turn it down when the music got louder to keep from having my ears explode. But everything else about this video I loved, thank you for taking the time to make and share it.

    A couple of comments for you, Drew. I loved the video, The flag looks great! Were you able to make a second flag with the other parts? I found it a little amusing that you stated, "I really need to invest in some proper dust collection" and then in the next shot there is a duststopper and vacuum in the background. What I have done, and would advise, is to just build a box out of 1/2" or 3/4 plywood for the vacuum and dustopper and put caster wheels on it so you can cart it around, connecting it to whatever you need to. Keep up the great work, dude! I want to go make one now.

    • @ReadySetBuildIt
      @ReadySetBuildIt  2 года назад +1

      Scott, thank you very much. I was able to make a second wavy and a flat flag out of what was left. Also, it’s funny you mention a box. That’s on my project to do list. I’m mulling over creating a dust stopper cart with storage for miscellaneous sanding equipment. I’m in the design phase. So look out for that one.
