I love the Grinduro format. It just seems the best of everything - test yourself on the timed segments or not, but definitely serious fun factor. Gotta get me to one.

Hey David, just wanted to say: keep up your great work. Been somehow watching from the start of your channel thanks to the yt algorithm. And since then it grew to one of my favorite channels. Btw. I own a GRIZL SLX with GRX DI2 myself and love it. Even slapped my road tires on and it’s amazingly fast and stiff.
It was my first Grinduro on my Rose Backroad and wow was it a good event. The rain later in the day made stage 4 interesting but it was great to see soo many different bikes. Your canyon looked great. Great video keep it up. 👍
Great video , could use some of that Gelato right now. So jealous of the weather you have there. Enjoy seeing the variety of bikes. Looks like Canyon is about to have a lot in common with that Cannondale $oon. Recently picked up a Canyon from someone who didn't get to use it at Unbound Gravel. Nicest bike I've ever owned. After some new cables, will be baking freshly ,daily,on this brutal Texas summer.
I'm sure your competitors were thinking, "Whoa, and here I thought that dude was just a roadie." And I grin but c'mon, David, you were rockin' that dirt and roostin' everyone in sight, if only in the untimed sections but still. And cool that Grinduro is held in your neck of the woods, looks like great fun and food and festivities. And that bike does look like a blast to ride, tho' just a little front suspension is probably enough. If we're not careful, we'll have eight-inch gravel travel on supercross gravel bikes for that true stadium ride. 😀
Great video. Thanks. Have been riding the Grail for some years now, and is considering the Grizzle, so thanks for the inspiration. One little thing…..you say, that you will not change anything on the bike. Great, but consider changing the front tyre to the One Ulbratbite model. This combination (OneBite in the back and Ultrabite in the front) is actually the recommendation on Schwalbes homepage. I did it, at got 10-15% better grip on loose trail without loosing speed ✅…..just a tip
@@RttnAm1 To be honest, a lockout would have been nice on the fork. I have the 1x setup with dropper. It’s thus quite similar to my hardtail mtb but the bigger chainring and overall comfort of the bike makes this a winner on the daily training rides.
David, I am so glad to have found your reviews. Detailed analysis by a real rider and serious ride impressions. Well done. How do you compare the Grizl with the Fairlight Secan 2.5? I am torn between the two for the main reason that both offer the ability to run very wide tires. I was originally attracted by the Beau Jaxon. But the price points for the Grizl and Secan are much better. Your thoughts and real world impressions. The idea of a one size does most, even if not every one perfectly, is really intriguing. Hi David, I really like your RUclips Channel. Thank you for your fantastic reviews. About the glasses and rain.. From my experience as a former mountain biker / racer is not to use glasses on the rain. :) I used to wear glasses only on the first lap because of the mud coming from onther riders tyres. Keep up with the very pleasant work you're doing.
I write the same set up the giant revolt with a rock shock Rudy? The riding experience has been awesome. Honestly think the gravel racing is going to start to go that way getting beat up with a rigid fork is something for the young kids they can do it all day long but sooner or later they’re gonna get tired of this stuff, I honestly think it’s gonna change
Canyon has really good value for money. Same like Cube for example. Some manufacturers are so expensive in comparison. It's weird. I love the Focus Atlas 8.7 for example but it's really expensive in comparison. Thanks for the video.
Very nice review! I’m thinking of getting one with a rigid fork and thinking about using it as a road bike. A video with a tire swap to 32mm road tires to check the ability of using it as a road bike would be so great to see. Any thoughts on this? Thanks and regards Thomas
Love the vid! I’m standing between a giant revolt and the Canyon grail. Both with rival etap and 1x. Is there a definitive recommendation? 😂 cheers from Germany 🇩🇪
Ooh that’s really tricky as both are excellent and lots of similarities- I’d say Revolt feels a bit racier and smoother the Grizl seems more laid back and the dropper post impairs comfort compared to the VCLS post
Great video, thanks! What is the name of the color of your bike? Canyon currently offers two grey variants (as I see it): Earl Grey (which is light grey) and Smoked Oolong (which is dark grey). Thank you
The smallest size available is only “S”. After I enter my measurements to determine the size, it states “We can’t ensure a good fit because we didn’t design the bike for the height and inner leg length you entered”… If I select another Grizl model with fixed fork instead of suspension, it recommends XS size….🙁
Great video as ever but with terrain like that I cannot see why you'd just not use a hard tail cross country MTB and be done with it. Loads more confidence on the rough stuff, I'm sure that'd be faster / more fun.
Totally agree. I always prefer flatbars on anything more than light gravel and the recent gravel bike craze is overrated IMO. I much prefer an endurance bike with slightly wider tires which are equally capable on road as well as on light gravel.

Hello David ! I’m torn between the rigid fork and suspension for my grizl. As the fork has no lock out would you still recommend it an mainly asphalt rider that would occasionally like to push the to its limit off road ? Thank you !

On smoother gravel, or sealed roads, how much slower is the Grizl with suspension than a traditional gravel bike - eg e Giant Revolt? Is it noticeable? Or fatiguing?
There's no reason why the suspension fork should make one bike slower than the other. The suspension fork is going to help reduce fatigue on rough roads and gravel so you're less tired at the end of a big ride. Plus you can lock it out for road riding
When you look at the specification, performance and compare to other rivals then yes I think it's safe to call it a bargain. The price actually includes any applicable import duties and VAT. The only additional cost is postage and packaging which comes to around £55. Most sizes of this model are available in a couple of months time. It really is a bargain!
@@theantler3625 The Giant Revolt actually comes out cheaper here in Korea and I suspect in many other places. However, I prefer the look of the Grizl. That's what I was wondering as well. When the frame was released I think some of team riders were using 700x34, but not with big knobbies. I wonder if the Supersix in this video was running 650b wheels since the tires look bigger and there is lots of clearance behind the seattube and under the fork crown.

Interesting -- I really didn't like it. Geometry was fine for racing, doing strava laps, but if want to get out there and enjoy some gravel, no way... Reachy and short-stacked, didn't understand why they'd put you so far out over the front wheel when you're running into roots, etc. Good spec for the price, though, beside the terrible plastic saddle

Lets add suspension
Next step is narrower tires on gravel bikes.
Interesting -- I really didn't like it. Geometry was fine for racing, doing strava laps, but if want to get out there and enjoy some gravel, no way... Reachy and short-stacked, didn't understand why they'd put you so far out over the front wheel when you're running into roots, etc. Good spec for the price, though, beside the terrible plastic saddle

lauf vork yes
bartape nice yes
Is it me, but most exciting aspect of that bike is the tit frame?
So the tyres were the limiting factor - sounds like a HT might have been even better …
They were a limiting factor but they did limit my fun and ability to get around 😃

Fair point - I’m kinda between the Grizl / Mason RAW / Fairlight Holt. I already have a CX bike (35mm - rim brakes) hence the temptation get something a bit more capable
buy a hardtail
or better a fully
2900£/$3500 is a jaw dropping value for that bike.
Bargain. Aha.
Suspension fork, dropper and the largest shifters/brakes I've ever seen. Gravel bikes are reaching peak stupidity. Great looking frame though.
So basically a gravel bike is a bad mountain bike and a bad road bike! Run to your shop to buy it
As a mechanic with decades of experience, I can not stress enough as to how much Canyons are a waste of money.
Care to elaborate ?
ok I'm out lol this is getting cringy - whats happening here? we just witnessing the transformation of a Cyclocross Bike into a Mountainbike lol and people are celebrating it like its the most genius and innovative idea ever to also put a suspension fork and a dropper on it... like are you even serious? did you ever hear of a cross country mountainbike? these bikes exist for decades! the gap between the roadbike and the MTB has been closed with the cyclocross, whats the deal with this gravel bike hype? its just a bad mountainbike with a roadbike handlebar thats slow on smooth tarmac, why do we need this?! it feels like road bike fans are just discovering the happiness of riding offroad and are like "omg that is so cool" as if it hasnt been done before.
womp womp
suspentions fork.. cringe
legs are gear, arms are suspension
I wonder if they will make a 2x with a suspension fork.
how durable would this bike be compared to a steel frame, say a high spec surly crosscheck?
