I am from the Netherlands. I challenge you to guess what an empty plot of land that is a little less than 1000 square meters or a quarter of an acre will cost you here in the Netherlands. You get permission to build, and then you get all the important services such as water and electricity and fiber optic internet and natural gas, but you have to pay yourself for those connections once the house is ready. The plot is located at the edge from a village with a view to farm fields. The plot is easy accessible. And everything else that you need to live comfortably is in close proximity, including highways and all the stores and bars and restaurants and all the other services that you need. And the closest airport is about an hour from that location. But on top of the price from the land you also need to pay for the house that you want to build, including property tax, and you also must hire an architect, and the building plans need to be approved by the local government. All of that is not included in the price from the plot. So just the empty plot, what do you think that it will cost? And I can tell you in advance that it will shock you. It is that much money. I am curious about how people in a different country will react when I mention the actual price. And you can't negotiate about the price of the plot either, because here we have a shortage of houses and plots. So many people will be happy to pay the asking price, or even more.
