I also think that Miley, unlike Jojo Siwa, has had moments throughout her career where her music can capture the general public's attention, at least just for a moment. Even before the Bangerz era, and while being under the Disney umbrella, she had crossover hits like "The Climb" and "Party in the USA". And post Bangerz, she has been consistent releasing music, being a TV host and gaining a new reputation for how good she is at covering songs. Even recently, she had a big hit with "Flowers" and recently won a Grammy. Even if Miley's career has had ups and downs, she always had the musical talent and grit to back her up no matter what.
Btw. Miley is extremely talented, girl can actually sing and write and the difference is Mileys transition was authentic. Her songs mirrored her life outside the music

The thing is Miley is actually an extremely talented musician and a fashion icon. It feels like Jojo is playing the role of a pop star because she has the resources to do it but it feels corny and forced because being a pop star just isn't in her skillset.
Also, Jojo just shouldn't be allowed to dress herself at all and she need to give total creative control her wardrobe to professionals.
Not to mention that her "can't be tamed" era felt very authentic, she owned that song completely

Jojo's song is manufactured. It doesn't feel like part of an album. It just feels like what it is, a marketing tactic. A good one that has everyone talking. But one that will blow over soon. Hopefully. It's cringe because it's inauthentic and everyone can feel that.

I had a theory that some boomer/gen x’er in her management planned all of this and put her in clothes they think looks “rebellious”. And after finding out she didn’t know KISS, I am CONVINCED.
As a self proclaimed sheltered child, this is exactly what I did when I was like 15-16 trying to rebel but I was so sheltered that I had no idea what actual rebellion looked like and I dyed the tips of my hair pink (scandalous I know) with semi-permanent dye from Ulta and I wore jeans with holes and really bad looking eyeliner in my waterline. She genuinely thinks she's a bad girl and she has probably been in so many boardroom meetings where people told her that her rebrand and coming out wasn't brand friendly and because she's doing it anyways that's crazy. Miley Cyrus was sheltered from like the more exploitative parts of Disney since her dad was on the set of Hannah Montana but she's also the goddaughter of Dolly Parton, she wasn't nearly as sheltered as Jojo has been and it's making a difference
I agree, she's been working like an adult most of her life, but hasn't has any of the other social experiences most adults have had. So I can't imagine how she could create anything genuinely relatable, at least not until she unpacks some of her trauma and realises that life is more than being a product.

Ehhh, voices vary across people in general, including women. I’ve met at least a few other people with the same “texture” of voice as Jojo, so it’s not that much of a surprise that it’s just her natural tone.

I think a lot of 20 somethings experience a kinda anathema phase towards teenagers. As you become a young adult, it's easy to project your own immaturity cringe. We should be kind enough to let them be kids AND listen to that discomfort enough to date people in your same life phase.

But at Work, I end Up working with people 10 years older AND Younger than me. And in that Environment you learn a Lot about people and can Form friendships.

She grew up as a child star and we all know how traumatizing it can be for someone. I feel for her cause she clearly is having some identity crisis. I do think this is a phase that she needs to go through and hopefully she’ll move on from it. Most child stars go through this, it just all looks different for everyone. She literally played a character her entire life so honestly she’s starting to find herself even if it’s in the most intense way possible. I know she said she wanted to rebrand to a more mature version of herself but this making her look even more immature.
Edit: I wasn’t fully aware of the allegations against her. I do think it’s totally gross that she and her mom were apart of it. However not everything is black and white. We can feel bad for her and what she had to endure while also criticizing her for her actions and what she did to those other young girls. I think she played along with her mom’s ideas. She is a victim herself and unfortunately a lot of them aren’t perfect victims.
It’s not just a rebrand, it’s a distraction from her controversy of exploiting and mistreating kids in xomg, as well as defending predators and groomers
I do agree with you. The situation with her at large is absolutely a story about being a child star and the trauma that comes with it, and I don't think she's anywhere close to realizing what that means to her. However, this feels very distinct to other child stars, because there's so many little nuances that just…don't sit well with a lot of people. For one, the timing is real convenient, because not as many people are talking about what part she played in XOMG and the treatment of those dancers since this has been a big thing. Two, there's just…way too many instances where she'll say things where it's just like, oh. No. You're still actively being manipulated/groomed into this. Which feeds into the notion that this "rebrand" was not all her. It was something her team, namely her mom, wanted and she went along with it because she's still that entrenched.
Like the girl needs serious help, but this identity crisis feels very different from the ones that came before.

I'm just really disgusted with everyone's reaction. Making fun of her voice, straight up homphobic/lesbophobic shock at "The Humping". That dance move wasn't half as provocative as the Wrecking Ball video but people are acting like they walked in on their parents fucking or something. Idk anything about XOMG so that sucks but also no matter what she did on that show I don't think that's an excuse for such cruel mockery.
@@hannah-6080 Um, with the XOMG, it's about stuff that happened *off* the show. Most notably, there's a girl who has a medical issue, and there was a lot of mistreatment with her, but the other girls are included in the misconduct as well. So. Yeah, that goes beyond the "so that sucks", because no, some of what was going on seemed borderline illegal. I would look into it.
And with the humping, at least for me, it wasn't so much what she was doing, but just the fact that it comes out of left field. Nothing about the song itself or the video indicated she'd go that far. Lol. It was just a wild moment, that's it.
Overall though, I can agree that a lot of this reaction misses the larger point. But uh. Again. I would look into the XOMG situation. Because it's really bad, and it does implicate a lot of Jojo's character/maturity.

23:34 okay as a 23 year old i AM technically friends with a 16 year old BUT it's not a "i talk to them like my adult friends and hang out with them one on one and lean on them emotionally" type friendship, it's a "we play dungeons and dragons every other week in a big mixed-age group and reply to each other's memes in the group chat and they ask for advice about applying to college" type situation. i was also that kind of friend with a couple 20-somethings when i was a teen too. i think there's nothing inherently wrong with mixed-age friendships, but you GOTTA treat them differently than friends your own age. the best rule of thumb is to talk to those kids like their mama's looking over your shoulder.

I didn’t grow up with Jojo but my little cousins loved her and while it may have been traumatizing for her to have to play a kid for a long time, she was the last of that generation to just be a “little girl”. I'm leaning more towards that the rebrand wasn't received the way she wanted it to be, so her team finally stepped in and told her to run with the trolling angle. You can't tell me that none of the grown people around her didn't once think "hmm...this KISS from Wish outfit probably isn't the direction you want to go in" lol. I also think since she hasn't been around too many teenagers in a traditional way like attending high school in person, her take on "rebelling" is skewed. I think people are forgetting that Miley rose to fame playing Hannah Montana. A girl whose alter ego was a rock star. Sure, it wasn’t THE edgiest, but the alter ego was there. So when she came out all wild during the Bangerz era it was like she was becoming the real life Hannah Montana. We always knew she had a darker, edgier side. The rebrand didn’t feel off, Miley’s antics were a bit much, but the music, the outfits were on par for her age at the time. And it was her. None it felt like a calculated move.Jojo admits to being calculated about it all the time. She even says that first dance move in Karma was done because it gets people talking. And constantly wearing the kiss makeup when she’s not on her video set is strange. “Teasing” the song 100x for weeks on end, just screams calculated. Bangerz was a great album. Adore is still one of my favorite songs and I’m an old lady millennial with two kids. She had some great producers on the album, too. Miley just became herself. Jojo is trying to sell us and that’s the difference
