@@MattDenton thank you! wish you could send pics over youtube comments 😂 my motor is a different design but same principle. Made it in high school. In trade school now so it's not very old lol
Nicely done! What inspires me the most is your sheer joy and excitement doing the stuff you're so passionate about ;) Recently, during your interview with FIRSTInspires, there was a question posted but not asked, so I'll try to put it here: how does one become a robotics engineer when he/she already has an unrelated degree/job and can't go to school or courses like FIRST?
It's just co pressed air forcing the piston down and the inertia of the flywheel continuing motion until the next piston cycyle. The spring is there to keep the piston against the face as a simple air seal.
@@MattDenton Indeed, that's what I was thinking. Pretty much either all out of the same factory or at least clones of each other. Ah well, guess I'll save for a 2nd-hand real lathe (a big ol' chungus one, since I live in the sticks in Aus and have plenty of space).
So, what grade did you get for that project? :) But would you imagine at that age that after so many years you will still have it and cleaning it and it will still running? To be honest i would not be able to do something like that even now - my excuse is i was in sport class and we didnt do a lot of things :D

I still have the original drawings for this project from years ago.... nice
Really! Cool 👌
Really? Would you be prepared to share? I built one of these at college but we couldn’t keep it.
Would be a great build series.
A blast from the past
Just watching this makes me want to get back to the school workshop, I’m missing it so much!
That’s great! That is the perfect reaction.. I hope you get to go back to a workshop soon!!
Wish I saw these engines before I finished my engineering course in school, would of loved a few of these 😂
This was amazing to watch, it’s always great to watch channels that take pride in things like this.
Thank you!. pls share to anyone who may appreciate it. :D
I don't know why but it was just extremely relaxing to see this get redone
Good! 👍
This engine brings back so many memories.
Your videos finally persuaded me to buy a 3d printer.
Got a lot to learn.
That’s great! Enjoy :)
@@MattDenton thanks. Can’t wait till it comes. What software do you recommend for drawing of prints?
I use Alibre Design but any CAD package should work

It’s slippery slope!! 😬 I use Lulzbot printers. What printer did you buy?
Matt: *is 15-16 and builds an engine*

Exactly.. I wonder what you’ll be doing when you’re my age!!!
Nothing will probably change to be honest haha
That's a blast from the past 🤗 made mine in the same year as you.... & it's in exactly the same state! 👍
Cool.. so many people made this little engine 👌
You should really make a Lego pneumatic engine in life size!
I may.... 🤔
The huge Lego pneumatic cylinder would be awesome haha
Yeah it would be cool
Wow👌👍. Baru saja saya menghayal mesin bertenaga air/uap (hasil proses memanaskan/pendidihan air)😅.eeh ketemu ini chanel tentang mesin penggerak🙌.
You inspired me to fix my little air motor up. Thinking about making it into a steam engine.
Cool! I'd love to see a picture.

Awesome
Very nice. I built a very similar engine during my engineering degree. Now you should add a little generator to charge a phone 👍🏼
Yeah would be interesting to see how inefficient it is 👍
Always Be Knolling! Great vid. Looking forward to Lego GoKart part II
Thanks 🙏
Is this the engine you're gonna use on the go kart 😂
😆
Matt Denton plz🤣🤣if you are plz reply 😎😅🤣
No... I do it would have the power I require.... Unless 🤔
Here if me
Matt Denton can you please search up brickboy 150 on RUclips
Cool
Thanks
Great project man!
Thanks 🙏.. but different form usual

Thanks . I really enjoyed this one 😊
1.Can you explain the working of this engine i.e from input of air to output of energy using this engine
2.What is the need of spring in this engine?
It's just co pressed air forcing the piston down and the inertia of the flywheel continuing motion until the next piston cycyle. The spring is there to keep the piston against the face as a simple air seal.

Nice!
Thanks 🙏
I am curious about those air fittings you used. Any links for them?
Hmm push fit 6mm fittings I think.
Very cool
Thanks
Continue lego go kart pls🙃
I am....
You had engineering class in high school? Is that common in schools in the UK?
It was in the 80s.. not sure anymore ...
Where did you get that mini lathe? Most of them are pretty garbage and I'm just wondering if there's any that are known to be better.
I'd say this one isn't great! It's a Warco machine but I think they are all Chinese lathes re-badged
@@MattDenton Indeed, that's what I was thinking. Pretty much either all out of the same factory or at least clones of each other. Ah well, guess I'll save for a 2nd-hand real lathe (a big ol' chungus one, since I live in the sticks in Aus and have plenty of space).
Yeah or an old myford if you want something smaller
Whats the turning thing for at the top just under where the air goes in 😅
You mean the bar with the spring on? That holds the cylinder onto the face of the plate and is th cylinder pivot point...

I got an A 👍😁 yeah it's great to see it working again. I got out of my sports class to do extra engineering 😂
What if you set the flow to max and make it go as fast as possible?
I did... It starts to rattle itself to pieces 😆
Sir, for constant rpm at crank shaft we need to apply constant air pressure at piston and how is it possible?
How does a steam engine work
that's great Matt. who was your teacher ? was it Mr Featherstone ?
No I had him for CDT, but I can’t remember the name of the engineering teacher. Shorter than featherstone, and older, dark hair I think...
Mr Haines ? think he drove a range rover ? he had the metal work room behind Mr featherstones CDT room.
Yeah that's it. He was a great teacher. He got me out of PE So I could do additional engineering 👍
looks good
but sorry to say
but you need more practice silver soldering
First thing I silver soldered In about 10 yrs... Worked ok for me 👍
@@MattDenton :)
So what should I have done different... it flowed beautifully.. and no excess.. I’m keen to learn?
@@MattDenton well I always flux the work peace and then add the solder when it goes clear
i had to learn (the hard way) that you need moar heat then you think when silver soldering
Oh. I do flux the work piece.. and yes you need loads of heat. As with with soldering.. the solder goes to the heat! 👍
12:25 This engine literally sounds like you dubbed over it and you're just making noise with your lips.
It’s a great sound 👍
✍️
What purpose does the spring serve?
Keeps the piston chamber against the face plate.
@@MattDenton Seems so obvious once pointed out. Thanks!
No worries 👍
Didn't use quick change pnuematic fittings SMH
I wanted all metal fittings on the engine..
Matt Denton, I’m just shitposting, it was overbuilt already, and no need for a fancy fitting on some demonstration piece !
🤷
I bet Matt Denton won't respond
Bet he does!
Well....... I was wrong then😂
I try to reply to everyone ✌️
I like to put a drop of 3 in1 oil into a tissue then sniff it while watching these videos..................................
