Micky is one the funniest comedians in the UK. He's definitely in the top 5 in my opinion...and don't laugh at many "jokes" by UK comedians but Micky is different class. Up there with the American's I rate.
Easy yep. Off the top of my head I can only think of Kevin Bridges who actually makes me laugh. Peter Kays early 2000s stuff also. But obviously going back through history there's many greats. Rowen Atkinson is quite brilliant, he's still about. But these guys are just funny people. They think funny things and so they don't even need to tell jokes to be funny. There's nothing artificial about all these people. It's not like they spent decades chipping away at trying to be a pro standup comic. They were just funny and became pro standup comics as a result. Not saying they didn't work a long time to hone their craft, but they just had it to start with.
I think this is the massive difference between these guys and like the 95% of other comedians who just aren't that funny, on a big stage at least. You can tell it's artificial, or they're nervous, or it's dishonest, or whatever. No substance in what they're talking about basically. I think the reality is that most standup comedians just aren't that interesting of people and as a result they have nothing to offer to the audience. This is why the best standup comics also tend to be the most intelligent, they have a lot to offer and communicate.
Up there with the americans? I can only think of bill burr and dave chapelle who are funny comedians from USA now a days. Old school yanks were funny but not the new generations of softies
