Is there a trick for if you don’t have those giant clamps? How expensive are those? Thanks for sharing!

The clamps are from Harbor Frieght and and cost roughly 6 dollars, but you also have to buy the length of pipe you need to attach them to. I like them because you can get multiple size pipes and reuse The clamps.

The 2 boards are held together by just wood glue, correct? No additional screws? Does the clamping make them tight enough or do you need to fill with putty before sanding? Thank you!

The clamping makes them tight enough and if the boards are straight you do not need any putty. No screws required!

The bottom of the tabletop has 1x2s that keep the top in place. These 1x2s and the glued joint make the tabletop sturdy.

Do the wire crates take the weight of the toppers well without any added support (like legs for the tables)?

I am not sure about all crates, but the two we own hold up very well. We have a little box on each where we keep all their toys and leashes. That box sits on top of this tabletop and their has been no issue with instability with the crate.

I wish! I do not have the free time. Most of my woodworking projects are just as a hobby. Maybe someday though!
