nice video bro, here in brazil the e5 2697av4 is more affordable, because has less taxes or something like that, now i have more information about how that cpu will perform, so thanks for that compare, is a little difficult find information about this cpu on internet :)
great video, as someone still on an old E5-2680 V4 I think a more realistic paring for this kind of cpu is more like an RTX 3060 or Radeon rx 6600xt, meaning a budget system and would be fun to see that in the same testing and see how much the cpu impacts a lower tier graphics card
I have this exact CPU paired with a RTX 3060 as you mentioned. The 3060 is great and will play any game I need at high settings, at 1440p ( Monitor is 180hz). However, it is a bottleneck for the CPU. Still looking to upgrade GPU eventually.

@@Morrow420 the 3060 ti is like 30% performance over the regular 3060 so depending on what upgrade you go for that might be fine, I also game at 1440p. the 2699 v4 is a nice upgrade as long as you play games that really support multicore cpu's, many still like higher clocks over cores at six to eight cores. Hi, I have an e5 2680 v4 with a Qiyida brand motherboard (the one with a fan on the DRM) but my processor is limited to a TDP of around 20 W, so I lose performance. Do you know what I should do?
The 4x8gb vs 2x16gb differences with E5 2697A config is super interesting to me. So with 4x8gb on such platform you are getting quad channel operation with single rank per channel configuration, where's with 2x16gb you get dual channel operation with dual rank configuration, which surprisingly wrecks the quad channel, single rank configuration, huh interesting
@@Miyconst Well yeah, when you look at total average, but there are games where dual rank setup completely demolishes single rank setup, like in battlefield 4 and fortnite case. Its very surprising since i totally thought that the quad channel bandwidth would give a significant advantage in games, but it seems its not the case in vast majority of games. Thanks for benches :)

Undoubtedly. The only problem is the price. 😀 Also, it's not about "extra cores" it's about the overall performance of a CPU. Ryzen 7600 is still a 6-core CPU but it performs better than 5800X.
Great video as always. But what about produtivity? Do you think the xeon e5 is still relevant in that functionality? A assembled a dual 2697v4 for video editing and a second one for geoprocessing and a think the cost benefit is hard to beat.
If you have a task that scales well across many cores and requires lots of RAM, it's next to impossible to find something more cost effective than LGA 2011-3.
I don't have any experience with video editing, by the way. I just felt an unreal difference compare to the 7th gen i5 my friend had. But... Do you think for premiere use and video compiling it was a god choice ? If not, what do you suggest?
I think that dual socket systems are bad for most of the users but if it works for you and you are happy, I see no reason to go into the "what if" territory. Adobe Premiere is known to favor CPUs with strong single core performance but compared to 7th gen i5, basically anything is strong.
@Miyconst Yes i know! I mean about the relative performance. It would be cool to see how the A750/A770 and especially the B580 that is out now would benefit (or not) from switching from X99 to Ryzen.
I see no reason why it shouldn't be compatible. For the best performance you would have to enable Resizable Bar and that's possible with most of the Chinese X99 motherboards, many latest options even have it as a BIOS menu option.
Hello, already asked in another video and you said 2697v4 but, I wanted to metion full prices. 2698v3 35$ 2697v3 35$ 2697v4 48$ Which one do you prefer? (2698v3 is brand new, not used)

Seems like Machinist and Huananzhi are pretty popular, but the tons of model numbers and versions are kind of confusing lol Do any of them have resizable bar support out of the box? I have a few Intel ARC gpu’s I could put in them
All those x99 motherboards support upto 3200mhz but xeon e5 2697a v4 and other cpus only supports upto 2400mhz, adding 3200mhz rams will make system unstable?
The comparison between dual channel and quad channel is really interesting. The most interesting result is my primary use case Fortnite with regard to the 1% lows. A 60% decrease in lows in quad channel relative to dual channel.
Yep.. this is a very weird result but I got it consistently. Please beware that I tested Fortnite with a game replay and live gaming might be different. Also, Fortnite constantly gets updates that also affect performance. So, I would say that both configurations are about the same.
@@Miyconst I will have to test it out. When you record game play do you use an App or a capture card? Which capture card do you recommend if you are using a capture card.
Hello, I successfully unlocked the turbo on my Aigo X99 motherboard using your guide. I used 90-50-50 and observed significant improvements in benchmark tests with the 2698v3. I'm getting 19K overall and 2100 single-core scores (PassMark). My question is: what potential issues could I encounter with the 90-50-50 setting? So far, I haven't experienced any stability problems. And the speed is not always 3.6GHz. However, it's always fixed at 3.6GHz during gaming. Is this normal? Thank you! Glad you’re here!
If your system is stable - just enjoy the extra performance while it stays so. The risks are cooked VRM due to the extra load and the CPU may just degrade over time and won't tolerate such voltage reduction. Constant 3.6 GHz during gaming is awesome, so just enjoy it.
What about Asus Strix X99 Gaming motherboard? Found a good condition used one which is same price as chinese ones in my country. Can I mod it's bios to get turbo all on cores?

My setup require lot of PCIe lanes and "upgrading" to AM4 is already questionable move anyway. Already invested on 4x32GB of DDR4 RDIMMs is also not helping to upgrade onto AM4.
Having PCs with 2680 v4 and 2660 v3 (with unlock), I would recommend you to add high-tier v3 CPU to 3080ti. 2680v4 worked well with Radeon 5700, but with 3080ti will definitely become a bottleneck.
@blackbirdest thank you for your suggestion! I pick 3080Ti mainly not for gaming, but more as poor man AI workstation. Had 3060 12GB before, and I think 12GB of ram is sufficient, and I need faster card. I currently have 2650v3 (with tb unlock) and 2650v4

@Miyconst Not for me) All people try to buy a 4 channel motherboard. Only for numbers in Aida test mem/cash. X2 in read/write speeds. But in games... It is hard to find the difference. That's why on RUclips I can't find any tests/evidence. Why gamers need 4 channels on xeon. Maybe the loading time will be reduced. I tested 16gb 2 channels and 32gb 4 channels. 16gb is still good for gaming.
quad channel with single rank ram config would be still faster than dual channel in single rank, the difference here is that dual channel used dual rank configuration, which helps to reduce memory access latency as it does not take as long to refresh its memory bank groups. Games first and foremost prioritize memory latency over the total bandwidth, ideally you would have both though.

great video, as someone still on an old E5-2680 V4 I think a more realistic paring for this kind of cpu is more like an RTX 3060 or Radeon rx 6600xt, meaning a budget system and would be fun to see that in the same testing and see how much the cpu impacts a lower tier graphics card
I have this exact CPU paired with a RTX 3060 as you mentioned. The 3060 is great and will play any game I need at high settings, at 1440p ( Monitor is 180hz). However, it is a bottleneck for the CPU. Still looking to upgrade GPU eventually.
@Morrow420 I happen to have an RTX 3060 ti and I get a slight cpu bottleneck instead so I dont think you can upgrade much over your 3060
@@peterhallbus1114 Interesting. I planned to get the 2699 v4 and a new GPU, then grab a second x99 mobo and upgrade my GF's system. Either that or a 6950X but the prices on that chip are a little high. So If I ever run into any bottlenecks Ill upgrade.
I personally think my next upgrade will be a consumer chip, but that might be a few years away since I'm currently content with what I got
Thank you for doing this still. I always like entry xeon content, even when it's negative. I have built a few rigs with the utter lowest cost options i could get there on ali and off locals, and i am always surprised with the capabilities of even some of the trashiest x99 parts. I would love to see 2640v4 content, that one at an easily accessible $4 each seems too good to be true.. its a shame my $21 white qiyada x99 boards are nowhere near as exceptional😂. A few months ago i couldnt imagine building such usable machines for around 150 usd

Hi, I have an e5 2680 v4 with a Qiyida brand motherboard (the one with a fan on the DRM) but my processor is limited to a TDP of around 20 W, so I lose performance. Do you know what I should do?
Hey I plan to use my 2011-3 machines running with Linux as long as they continue to provide the performance I need.
I wouldn't call "wrecks", the performance is about the same.
Last week I bought a 18-core E5-2699v3 on Aliexpress for 35 euro's including shipping. Now that's price performance I would say.
I have a question about the bios for Huananzhi X99 TF with c612 chipset. will the bios that is theoretically in the tab for this motherboard from wavypalasbabys -50/-50 rebar work with it? installation via ftp? anyone tested the bios on this motherboard?
There are several different X99-TF revisions with mutually incompatible BIOS. If you plan to try an unknown BIOS - prepare a CH341a first.

You can really see where extra cores help out. I assume a 5700/5800X would do much better where cores matter than the 5600.
Undoubtedly. The only problem is the price. 😀 Also, it's not about "extra cores" it's about the overall performance of a CPU. Ryzen 7600 is still a 6-core CPU but it performs better than 5800X.
@Miyconst It does, but clearly the IPC and clock improvements of the 5600 aren't enough to cover the lack of cores. That's about it.
Why so difference between dual and quad channel
Please watch the video or at least its conclusion.
Can you make gaming and other benchmarks on a dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8180?
I am sorry to disappoint but I can't do. It would be a huge money waste buying these CPUs. Also, for gaming LGA 3647 is useless.
@Miyconst fair enough
x99-rs9 can handle 100+W cpu's? i thought vrm was weak with only 3 phases..
It can but only if you ensure good VRM cooling and don't torture it with 24/7 load.
What about testing with an intel a750? They are really nicely priced at this time.
What exactly should I test? A750 works just fine with X99 when resizable bar is enabled.
@Miyconst Yes i know! I mean about the relative performance. It would be cool to see how the A750/A770 and especially the B580 that is out now would benefit (or not) from switching from X99 to Ryzen.
are those mobo compatibility with the Arc series graphic cards a good idea ?
I see no reason why it shouldn't be compatible. For the best performance you would have to enable Resizable Bar and that's possible with most of the Chinese X99 motherboards, many latest options even have it as a BIOS menu option.
@@Miyconst ok thanks, i wasnt sure about the resizable bar on x99 ;) ! take care

@Miyconst Got it! Thank you! I turned 2x 120mm case fans to the VRM. After 1 hour of gaming checked the VRM heat and it was 63°. Hope it's safe.

With a board that supports resizable bar can you run a arc gpu on a old Xeon system without any huge performance drops?
Yes, you surely can.
almost pulling the trigger to buy used Ryzen 7 5700X + B550 board, and this videos comes out. I guess I gonna put the money to get E5-2680v4 and RTX 3080Ti instead.
Great video, thank you!
So, as the resolution increases, will the gap between Xeon and the Ryzen 5 5600 close? For example, will the CPU bottleneck gradually decrease at 2K and 4K resolutions?
It really depends on the game and GPU used. The gap may decrease but you certainly won't get more FPS.

Testing quad chanel and dual chanel on qd4/2697v3 and 4 modules 8gb ddr4 desktop. Very minor diference. And in CS2, 2 modules are realy better for everage fps than 4.
Yeah, this is pretty unexpected. I would assume that quad channel configuration should be at least 5% faster.

@@sascha6841 X8 PCI-E 4.0 vs. 3.0 difference is not critical at this level of performance and LGA 2011-3/X99 does support Resizable Bar.
Perhaps these Xeons could be better tested with Hypervisor/VM setups. These CPUs are popular for home servers.
Id personally like to see these comparisons with VMs using the Proxmox hypervisor!
I currently have the Asus X99 IPMI board with an e5-2697 v4. I'm interested in a board with dual 2667 v3 CPUs, turbo unlocked (if possible).
TBU is very problematic with anything but Windows as far as I know. Testing Proxmos I couldn't even get it to boot with TBU, it would lock at startup. Dual socket solutions are designed for a few niche use cases and I don't recommend it for most of the users.
@Miyconst Well, that's disappointing. Thanks for the information!
@@Miyconstgood to know. I was considering my z440 as a proxmox candidate. After looking at this chats comments I will probably into a gaming PC and get something else for server/ proxmox/ etc. thanks
damn, i was late.
sadly no minecraft...
Man.. I tried. Testing Minecraft is a total mindduck.
@@Miyconstusing Sodium on Fabric lets you use more than one core for the game (unlike vanilla which is heavily ipc limited) for the Java version, Bedrock should use more cores by default (but runs on anything so testing this version would be pointless imo)
@@Miyconstas for testing methodology I would use the same "seed" at a high render distance (32) in the same spot and record fps maybe while moving around to capture stutters while loading parts of the game (make sure to enable all cores in Sodium settings)
X99 is Dead! Long Live X99!
I'm glad, it only makes the parts cheaper for everyone.
