Benjamin Britten - L'arche de Noé / Noye's fludde

Des 2011, Arie van Beek a souhaité présenter en Picardie cet opéra en un acte que Benjamin Britten a composé en 1957.
Cette œuvre participative, rarement présentée en France, a été écrite pour être jouée par une distribution principalement composée d’amateurs (instrumentistes et chanteurs) avec la participation du public.
Ce projet est porté par ACT - A Common Territory, réseau transmanche dont l’Orchestre de Picardie est chef de file. Inspirés par cette production de l’Orchestre, 4 partenaires anglais ont conjugué leurs moyens et leur savoir-faire : Melbourn Village College (Cambridgeshire), Royal Opera House Learning & Participation (Thurrock), Southend YMCA (Essex) et University for the Creative Arts (Kent) pour porter cette production qui fait aussi appel à des élèves du Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional d’Amiens Métropole, au chœur d'enfants du Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne et a des établissements scolaires de part et d’autre de la Manche.

Well! That's one way to do it!!
I took part in the first performance of this piece - in 1958 and, since then I have conducted it six times! It is an amazing work and I've never seen it done in a semi-staged performance such as this. in truth I think it loses something of the simplicity of the 'Mystery play' - but what wonderful music - Tallis' great Canon, in eight parts over a full orchestral ostinato at the end is a stroke of genius!
