Most manufacturers offer their strings in short, medium, long and extra long scale. If your bass is a 34" scale the longs will work. I use D'Addario Chrome Flatwound long scale on my MusicMan Stingrays (string through body) and they fit just fine. As with all strings you will have to cut them down so you don't overload the tuning posts...Cheers
Happy New Year Dave. Love your videos and all the hard work you do to educate and entertain us. There's nothing fake or phoney about your videos. Keep up the great work I've recommended you to several people and I know they've subscribed. Thanks again!
"find something the right space and use it." In a pinch, I like to use properly sized hex allen wrenches. I can find the 3/32 wrench and i use 2mm for the G since it moves less (fender website suggests this).
davey, what is it you don't like about warwick bass guitars? for their high prices you'd figure they would be incredible. i'd love to hear what you think about them.
makes it no so fun to play unless a breeze keeps it downwind from my nose. I was wondering (but please don’t feel obligated to answer if you don’t want to) if you have any recommendations on how to get rid of the smell on the guitar and of lesser importance - the case? Thanks Dave.
5:41 Love that snap sound, almost as if you were using a pick. Is that a little fret noise, or do you pick with you fingernail? Or both? Love you Dave, you have taught this old dog a new trick or two!
Sup Dave , I have question , what do you use clean a maple fretboard , & do you think the Seymour Duncan 57' bridge pickup is good for lead ??!!? Thanks :)
Great basses!! You should throw up a video where you just play Zed Leppelin's greatest hits...on bass,.....maybe some bass solos? Anyway Happy New Years Dave, from the home of the Stanley Cup Champs Los Angeles CA. GO KINGS!!!...........I miss hockey.;(
Do you know if the truss rod nut is wielded on MIM P basses? I damaged it and wondering whether I can replace it or not by simply unscrewing. Thank you
Hey Dave. I have a question regarding my acoustic guitar. It's a Takamine, and the saddle is worn to the point where it is affecting the intonation so much that it's no fun to play it anymore. I want to replace the saddles (it's a split saddle), but the local luthier told me he can't do it for me. The saddles are shaped in a strange way to fit snugly into the Takamine UTS pickup, and the luthier told me that it's not possible to work bone that way. What can I do? Do I need to replace the pickup?
i want to buy a set of feeler gauges, what range of sizes do i need to cover all guitar and bass eventualities? will a set of about 10 cover this or do i need a huge range, like 32 or something? cheers
+Dave's World of Fun Stuff Dave, I recently purchased a MIA J. I love it but I'm finding the tunes I'm practicing too are mainly P's. My question is.. There are a few used MIM P's for sale in my area. Would the sound of my MIA AS J sound better adjusted than a MIM P? At $400. would you recommend just getting a MIM P rather than keep adjusting my MIA J to try an imitate an authentic P? Also, do you recommend a set up shop around the GTA? Cheers Man!!
+Dave's World of Fun Stuff I'll speak to you soon, after I get the P.. I'll bring both by.. I'll swap out my Flats for Rounds on my J and new Flats for my P. May as well do 'er right..
+Dave's World of Fun Stuff Dave, I've decided to save my dough on a P so I can eventually buy a vintage model.. However I'd like to beef up my J.. Specifically a excellent Bridge, etc. So as to have you install and set up all at once. I'd like to chat a bit, order the pieces than drop her off. May I have your email or could you contact me? Unless the phone works better as I'm 416 area code.. Cheers 🍻 Lee
Hey Dave, thanks for the videos, really informative. I'm trying to lower the action on my precision bass. The bridge saddles are all the way down (can't go any lower). The neck looks straight to me, so I'm not sure if I should mess with it. Any suggestions on how to achieve lower action? It's a MIA body with a MIM Roger Waters neck strung with flats 45-105. Thanks a lot.
Dave's World of Fun Stuff ya but what's the fun in that? Anything less than 5/32 on the E just isn't enough room for the string to properly speak. Sounds squashed.
Dave's World of Fun Stuff how can I send you a photo to prove it? I am a pro double bass player...if you think 5/32nd is high then take a look at a real man's instrument ;)
Nappy who Near? Hic. anyways, I notice you plunked the strings right over the pickup. If you had that silly cover over the pickup, you would have to change how and where you pluck it. OH well, pluck it.
Loved the nickel and dime tip...EXACTLY what my bass needed, plays better than ever. Thanks Dave !!!
My pbass came in today!! Love the nickle/dime trick to tie me over for the night.. thanks man

Very helpful stuff. I am about to do my second build, a 50's P.
you could try a US nickel at the 12th fret...that medium low ( 2 mm) or take a 2.5 mm allen key and use that as a feeler at the 12th
very cool, used to work with Paul Brown..think he is Van now...will def look you up...diggin the videos..are you giggin as well?
Happy New Year, Dave. Glad you like the parts tray. Daphne blue, in case you weren't sure. Thanks for the vids!
happy New Years buddy, hope its your best yet !! thanks again for all you do for us for free..
Happy New Years.. And keep them (vids) coming.
Great stuff! Lookin forward for jazz bass setup tips :)
Dave, the cover looks cool -- but do you have to take it off every time you change the strings? Seems like you would.
davey, what is it you don't like about warwick bass guitars? for their high prices you'd figure they would be incredible. i'd love to hear what you think about them.
Awesome dave thanks mate for the tips on the p bass
I picked out on tune you played with... Friends of mine, the Guess Who! just listened to it the other day!!!
Hey, Dave, ever look into wooden pickguard? They're pretty neat! I have a maple on my mexican p/j with Dimarzio pickups. Really brightens it up!
Wow, subbed. Thanks for having such an awesome channel, man.
The trick to adjust with the coins, can it be done with whatever string gauge?
Enjoyed hours of your video...are you with 873? I am a carp and will be returning for work soon...will look you up for sure...what dept are you in?
your voice is getting better
WHAT WERE THE NAMES OF THOSE LED ZEPPLIN BASS TUNES YOU PLAYED??? THEY SOUNDED COOL AND WANT TO LEARN THEM ALSO…
Thx Dave, and a happy new year!

Does the bridge cover make a difference in the tone, or is it just for looks?
Excellent!! Happy New Year Dave :D

Hey Dave, do you know what brand of strings are long enough for a through body?
Sup Dave , I have question , what do you use clean a maple fretboard , & do you think the Seymour Duncan 57' bridge pickup is good for lead ??!!? Thanks :)
Happy New Year Dave!
I'm pretty sure you covered Helmut's points in earlier videos - the worse the bass, the more you gave attention that that.
Did you put a capo at the 1st fret for the 2,38 mm action?

Beautiful!
Dave! Happy New Year!

Happy new year!
how different is the string action of a jazz bass?

Thanks for the hint! I'll look into it.
Do you measure from the bottom of the string?
yes
Has this p bass got the s1 switch on it
Starting at 40 or 45?
THNX GOT IT DAZED AND CONFUSED AND HOW MANY MORE TIMES…..
Good stuff!
Why at the 17th?
I thought so. Well, I can't send the guitar all the way across the sea. What if I made a video with pictures and the like?
I have no idea how you play with such low action...I use a minimum of 5/32 on the E. Do you have weak hands or something?
Dave's World of Fun Stuff ya but what's the fun in that? Anything less than 5/32 on the E just isn't enough room for the string to properly speak. Sounds squashed.

@@Anonymous-rp4hn do you suggest 6/64 on all strings? EADG?
I use coins all the time to set my action, glad to see I'm not the only one 🙂
I made it myself. Painted it in Daphne Blue lacquer, and put felt in the bottom of it, with a non-slip pad on the bottom. This wasn't from the Bay.
happy 2013 dave.
Looks exactly like my '75!
hello Dave. Can't fix my guitar. but it will be okey
Nappy who Near? Hic. anyways, I notice you plunked the strings right over the pickup. If you had that silly cover over the pickup, you would have to change how and where you pluck it. OH well, pluck it.
5:40 Tighten up Dave!
Cheers T.W.O.
haha i should have seen that one coming!
Why would kids be in the firewood?
I just sent you a video :)
1:41 License to kill gophers... by the government of the United Nations.... man, free to kill gophers at will.
is that Roger Waters signature model?
Later models of the bass doesn't have The Wall and Rogers signature on it.
is a fender american standard P bass with other pickguard ;)
Naw, fuk with it anyway, just to mess them up, that's my rule!
First One :3
Happy New Year Dave
