  • Dr. Dan Gartenberg, a cognitive scientist, evaluates the effectiveness of Neurosity's Crown Headset to both measure focus and entrain a focused state. In order to do this, a simple experiment is conducted:
Condition 1: Dr. Gartenberg wears the headset and focuses on the sounds within the Crown that are designed to promote concentration.
Condition 2: Dr. Gartenberg wears the headset and scrolls through instagram (basically the opposite of what the brain does when it focuses).
Consistent with the hypothesis that the Crown both measures focus and increases the brain's ability to focus, when Dr. Gartenberg listened to the flow-state inducing sounds, the device registered that he had a shift in focus. However, when he was looking through instagram, this was not the case.
Dr. Gartenberg is currently working with Neurosity to validate, in a well controlled experiment of more than 40 participants, that the Crown is effective in increasing focus and feelings of flow.

Great stuff. As a Developer can I interact with that interface through an API? if so, which programming languages are supported at this time and how to you link it into your computer? Have you found any other use cases? Our main interests are education, IoT and cloud technologies. Take care!

Neurosity co-founder here. Yes, we have a JavaScript and Python SDK you can use to build your own apps. The SDK communicates with the Crown wirelessly via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. We recently launched a meditation app and so far people say it heps them relax and understand what makes them calm.

Have you been able to train it yet? Im curious. Could you get it to respond to visual sttimuli? I saw once a guy trained it to ping everytime he bit into a lemon. Have you tried to get it to ping when you see a lemon?

@teflontelefon I looked up the tech after seeing the video about the lemon... so believe me or not... it's out there. I'm glad to get the heads up though. That's unfortunate. I was looking forward to playing with one.
