The Optimal Way to Sleep Based on Temperature
Key takeaways:
To optimize sleep based on temperature, there are three things to consider:
1) The temperature in the bedroom
2) The temperature under the covers
3) The relative temperature between your limbs and your core body (head and torso)
The best way to sleep is to keep it cool (65-68 degrees) in the bedroom temperature, to wear socks, and to optimize the temerature under the blankets with multiple blanket layers and the perfectlysnug.com air-based topper. The topper dissipates air to keep you at your perfect temperature throughout the night. This dynamic helps reduce your core body temperature, which is an essential process for falling asleep.

    My husband, as soon as he falls asleep he starts breathing very loud and fast. As the night goes on it turns into periods of heavy snoring punctuated by silence and then snoring again and occasional loud snorts/gasps. Does this sound like apnea? We don’t have insurance so he wants to just get a cpap and not do the sleep test

    • @gartenberdaniel
      @gartenberdaniel 7 дней назад

      I would definitely get this checked out and have an apnea evaluation. You could try getting a used CPAP on ebay, but I would recommend getting the actual sleep test to see where you are at with it and rule out other things. There are actually different types of apnea which you should identify (i.e. central versus obstructive). You can get it evaluated for $67 with the link below. Feel free to message me after and I can navigate you in the process a bit. The free tutorials below should also help you navigate this a bit: sleepspace.com/review-of-wesper-for-diagnosing-and-monitoring-sleep-apnea/

      Maybe try to rule out some kind of underlying issue like sleep apnea, which can cause lighter sleep. It's a bit normal to have lighter sleep at this time but it could also be due to some kind of issue that can be resolved. I'd have to know more details, but you can get your sleep quality and breathing evaluated by an FDA cleared device using Wesper: sleepspace.com/review-of-wesper-for-diagnosing-and-monitoring-sleep-apnea/

    I used an app to record my sleep and found for the first time that I snore quite loudly (What's more the volume ''crescendoed'') at lighter stages of sleep, but at normal breathing speed and it was more airy. There was also times when I was breathing normally and other times when the snoring was more like a low growl, in fact the app called those low growl recordings ''Cat'' since it tries to find disturbances, thinking it was perhaps a cat purring. What worries me the most is the two snorts and how strained the loud snoring is.

      @layer9586 Your doctor or PCP should be able to refer you to a sleep clinic where you can be tested. There's a take-home monitor you can use which will basically record your sleep like what you hear in this video. Another method (I had this one myself) is an overnight sleep study where they hook you up to machines that will monitor your brain waves, pulse, heart, etc. as they record/monitor your sleeping. A doctor who specializes in that area will review your results and discuss treatment if needed. If you don't need a referral, you may be able to just call your local sleep clinic, but I suggest discussing it with your doctor. There are a lot of risks associated with long-term sleep apnea.

      Hi Ricky, appreciate the feedback! In the description for the video it states that it starts out as a "normal" snore and then at around 1 min 10 seconds in you start hearing what apnea sounds like. The individual literally stops breathing for >20 seconds. Rhythmic snores are basically normal but when the breathing rate is the rhythmic this indicates a deeper issue like possible apnea. Hope this is helpful!
