    Happy Sunday! Thank you for your question Mike, on how I went about creating the underbezel in the Handmade Sapphire Ring video. (link to that below) I hope we do well enough to explain it in this one.

    I have only paid for 1 tutorial in my time teaching myself goldsmithing, about 3 years. this is because im crippled and dont make enough money to afford to learn. this deserves payment, its pure gold, and if i ever make it, im comming back to throw you 50$ for this. thank you for not being more concerned with money

    As a self-taught metalamith (yes, I still swim in the silver sea, for now...) I am severely and excruciatingly grateful for good training on RUclips. There is a plethora of horror out here - the blind leading the blind-er (how much solder is legal to use)? When one finds a real RUclips gem (not a simulant), it's something to celebrate! Thank you.

      This is so lovely to hear. Thank you for this. I come from a self taught world too. Before RUclips there was nothing but secrecy. It was trial and error all the way. This channel is me giving back to ‘my younger self’ people who didn’t have guidance or formal training so I’m almost explaining it to myself. I’m so glad you like what we do here. It means that we are doing the right thing 🙏🏻

The light..you begin tounderstsnd snd love more..and diing the one rule of the universe .whatever you give you take it back..plenty..so prefer to give love..love is the drug..as brian ferry says..greetings from athens greece..

    I am so happy to have fond this video and this channel. I was trying a totally different approach. Taking a strip of metal folding it in a rectangle shape, soldering that then sawing of some edges so I can fold it back in to get the "pyramid" shape. It works... But the angle is a little different on the long side vs the short one. It doesn't look very clean. Super excited to try this method!

    thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it's so generous of you and your explanation is so well done (so few people are able to explain what they're doing when they're making jewellery, let alone well, and give reasons for why they are doing things in certain ways :P). i'll definitely try this - so far i've just drawn on a thick piece of metal, sawed out the centre etc. and you end up losing so much metal that way. i'm also curious to see how well this works for stones that aren't cut so well, and maybe this time i won't cry as much bahaha

    Hi, I love your videos. Thanks for sharing. When making the 17° lines from the top of your bezel, down through the bottom of the bezel, and to the intersection point, how do you determine where the intersection will be? In other words, the distance from the top of the bezel to the intersection point, is that arbitrary or is it based on the 17° drop? And if you come down at that angle, the drop distance will be determined by the angle. That makes sence to me, i guess i answered my own question but i've struggled to understand this and have several books that are super vague about how that distance is determined lol. Anyways, i'd love some clarification... im going to pull out the protractor and do some experiments. Thanks!

    • @jacothejeweller

      Yep, the angle brings the points together 👍🏻 if you message me on Instagram (jacothejeweller), I will post you the extract from where I learned it which might be handy.

    Hi Jaco, how much should I add to each length to account for a bezel setting? 20%? Maybe more?

    • @jacothejeweller
      @jacothejeweller  2 месяца назад

      It’s a tough question. Size matters a lot here - but always work bigger too and bottom if you aren’t certain. The shape is the important part here and I would have 3 to 4 mm to both ends to make sure you have a safe amount to file and cut. Good luck 👍🏻
