Senegal's new leader pushes for reset of ties with EU.
Senegal's new leader, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has taken office with a promise to bring about systemic change and improve the country. Faye, at 44 years old, is Africa's youngest elected president and has quickly risen from being a political prisoner to the presidency. Faye ran on a platform of cleaning up corruption and improving the management of the nation's natural riches to address the concerns of Senegalese youth regarding widespread unemployment and the influence of former colonial master France. People have viewed his election triumph as a sign of the people's will and desire for change.
Has he already begun with the change that was needed?

Yes! President Faye has already begun with the change that was needed. In a recent turn of events, Senegal's new leader Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for a "rethought" relationship with the European Union during a visit by European Council President Charles Michel. April 2 marked Faye's inauguration as president. He was elected on a platform of drastic change and the restoration of national "sovereignty" over important sectors.

Europe has nothing to offer that we cannot get from the BRICS. Europe's main exports are guns and debt
No one needs those.

Cutting off ties with Europe, and the EU in particular is the right and urgent thing to do. When all is said and done, Western Europe is mainly the root cause of African underdevelopment since the 15th century to this day. What else do Africans need to see the light about the true nature of Europe when it comes with its dealing with Africa?
Right conclusion Mr. president!
True CHILD of the COUNTRY (NATION)
Yes we don't need Europe to leave they should leave us alone they're giving us problem
Europe countries is the they exploitable tactical especially USA
Need Be !!!!
I'll be amazed if this young man lasts 5 years. Let's all pray for him.
You must stop using the phrase colonial master you are demeaning yourself
It'll be just like Rwanda and "Why didn't you help us?"
As a matter of fact Africa is done with Europe. Fed up.
I’m with the African movement but smh not enough Africans are condemning the Senegalese president stance on making Arabic there official language. From one colonial language to the next. Why aren’t Africans teaching Swahili? Only foreign language that needs to be recognized on the continent is English as it pretty much the worlds language at this point.
The amount of time and resources required to change a language is staggering. Most African countries have more than 10 spoken languages. In my country we have 60 different languages. Nobody speaks Swahili here. Additionally we need a language that allows us to do STEM studies. In that respect most African languages are far behind in vocabulary. We have more urgent needs. The équitable management of our resources and people
Arabic languages comes from Akan language. So there are words in arabic that they adopted from Senegalese people ancestors during their trade with each other. Back then in the Ancient Ghana empire which was in Senegal Mauritania region words like sika a twi word for money gold currency bill the arabs took that word for smelting gold. There really isn't a problem with adopting Arabic which is an Afrikan dialect
@@yahudiyah8 Wolof is the largest spoken language in Senegal, I’d be more content with the government putting an effort into nationalizing a local language rather than a foreign one. Swahili although only 30% of the continent speaks it, is still the largest spoken language in Africa. If there willing to learn French, English and Arabic why not an African language?
It is strategic to re-negotiate those contracts on a level playing ground. Enough of the one sided contracts arrangement with Multi Nationals.
True
Senegal's economic growth for 2024 is forecasted to be within top 10 in the world.
Illegal fishing by foreign boats. I note that, when it is about Russian boats fishing away the yabooy (sardinella), you do not mention the nationality…
When politicians say “ deter investors” who are these special interests investors anyways? Why should any leader care more about foreign investors than their own people?
What will happen if any country decide to circulate their minerals within their boarders? Won’t the coast of living drop and the people will live freely?
Cancel the fishing contract with the European Union if at all it's practically possible, and instead invest in fishing trawlers and good patrollboats for the Senegalese Navy thereby enabling them to patoll the Senegalese waters properly so as to put a stop to all illegal fishing. As for the Trawlers these can provide provide jobs for a lot of people in the fishing industry. If at all fish from Africa means so much to both and China, let the Africans all the fish catching and selling. This will be of immense benefit to us. Please stop the signing of these foolish agreements that never benefit our people. Feed your people first before you feed Europeans and Chinese. Your people also need the protein from the various types of fishes to maintain their good health.
It's truly thanks Africa need for Rashan and Chinese only they're more than enough for Africa esia and Latin America Caribbean countries
The western governments especially the colonial powers has abused the opportunities they have in Africa continent and there's no way better relationship can be established between them and African governments. So Senegalese president should should look other ways like the Malian counterparts rather than flogging a dead horse in looking for a new relationship with the thieves.
Be careful Senegal the EU would probably try something evil like poisioning the fishes and waters... So i think it would be a good idea to make a fish farm within the country or create a lake within the country
Be quiet. They the EU would be exposed and caught before they do that. They will fail.

The Chinese have the largest far off shore fishing fleet in the world , just saying..
Its all Africa countries to put force to AU than being in EU. Let EU be alone and AU be alone. Why Africa is in EU and EU are not in AU? Doing so borth will respect each other and good mutual will benefit each other.
Produce using others technologies to make things you need . Tell everybody to get lost and walk away .

Ban French languages in all schools in Senegal 🇸🇳. Cutting off ties with European Union 🇪🇺 is a good development. They brought poverty to our land.
