Love the thinking in this video! If you triple my portfolio and therefore my income, I don't care if my effective tax rate goes from 8.5% to 20%. If they have a brain in their head my heirs won't care either, they would rather pay the tax on $5.2M than get $1.4 tax free.
Did this couple have estate planning/Federal estate tax factors (children, grandchildren) to consider in addition to an outlier definition of 'retirement optimization'?
Of course the client gave the directive of highest possible return for retirement assets and that s/he understood the associated risks, until the investments falter and s/he blames you for “picking the wrong managers.” It sounds like you convinced them to take a sleeve of their assets with that directive, but I still find that people over-estimate their risk tolerance and it takes a 2001 or 2008 to teach a difficult lesson. Everyone is a risk-taker when US large cap has 2 years at over 20% annualized returns 😂

No - under the current $26MM+- exemption.

This is an underrated comment - and probably needs to be the subject of another video going deep on the folly of "Risk Tolerance".
