Hello from Hong Kong. A magnificent performance. Impossible to do a bad performance of this in many ways, given the power of the music. But what I have seen and heard was superb. Thank you.
For anyone who knows this incredible score, you will know this production has cut it to ribbons. Big chunks missed out, the ending to Act 1 totally rewritten, music sections in places in the wrong order. What on earth did this production hope to achieve by doing these things. Act 1 ends with the figure of a dancing Maire not after some of the music which starts Act 2. Also the performance musically is not a patch on the great Liensdorf recording with Rene Kollo and Carol Neblett, Nor can the orchestra in any way match the Munich Radio Orchestra which is in a totally separate league. Very disappointing.
I agree. There has been noticeable redaction (reduction?) of the score and some re-arrangement. As for the set, well, it does not serve the work very well. I am not at all opposed to re-staging operas, but there must be aesthetic goals.
Thank you for your words, please to look in the Korngold-Partiture of this Opera.... it is very complicated Music and it must be every moment contact witf the conductor...... belive me... Greeting from Vienna
Just getting acquainted with this masterpiece. (I'm lucky!). Marie/Marietta is really, really good! Thanks for uploading.
Beautifully sung. Oh, what music.

Thank you sou much! Greetings from Vienna from " Marietta".
When Marietta walked in, for a second I thought I was watching La Fanciulla del West
Wunderbar!

Did you know that Richard Tauber (a great friend of Korngold) actually sang the part of Paul on the stage?
Thanks I didn't realise that he had recorded any of it.

You can tell it is a bare bones "economy" presentation.
You should find an opera close to you performing this piece and go there instead of making negative comments
I don't know the opera, but I'd like to hear it in the way the composer intended. So I'm very glad for his "negative" comments. I'll look elsewhere.
+David Ashbridge - German Regietheater at next level: Eurotrash.
@@robbybonfire23 It was Production from Germany/ Karlsruhe and the Stagedirector was Ansgar haag - a celebry german Stage Director.
Warum ist diese Oper so wenig gespielt. Wahnsinn, was hier geboten wird.
Love this piece but not this production.

It was Cooproduction with German Theater Karlsruhe.
