This is why black women need to create their own cinematic studio. That way we can choose appropriate women to portray our historical figures. Represent black women in a better light and also we can create fantasy movies where no stereotype is attached, just a great plot and amazing special affects. It won't be about us just being black. It'll be about us being human.
It doesn’t matter who’s in charge, even blacks choose lighter skin over dark, in every culture the lighter skinned ones get the most of anything it’s always been like that, spanish tv rarely had National brands advertise now its all i see spanglish is normal and so has colorism just look around the globe if your white you are right, i love all people and this is the trauma that they’ve left us with, its a constant war since the beginning of time and we haven’t learned shit, all we can do is war amongst each other since there’s no common threat to bind us all for the greater good(survival), i mean when an entity foreign to us all is here to annihilate us, will that unite us all what will it take to unite us because one person at a time isn’t cutting it.
@@sylmen1111 I get what you're saying, Hun. But I'm talking about movies that are created and produced by ONLY fully black women. This way we can uphold a higher image of ourselves and put out movies that not only inspire, but elevate black women. We don't need men in dresses to imitate an overly dramatic stereotype of bw, or have voiceovers of black women or children done by white voice over artists.... We don't have to adhere to any of society's rules of cinema if these projects are fully funded by bw. It's time to change the narrative and take ownership of our image back. Sherry is NOT lying! BW have it so hard in the entertainment, modeling agency, etc. Telling her to "remember your place!" is unbelievable. That is so that you don't "outshine" the WW. Patti Labelle said it: "Oh no honey! You're not gonna be ahead of the WW" They stick to European beauty standards. Look at the roles they gave BW: Maid, whore, prostitute, "mean, angry, BW". Viola Davis talks about how she had to work TWICE as hard as WW actors even though they went to the SAME acting school. Young people need to hear the REAL story about Hollyweird.

Yes she is, and whats said is the people who brush off her talent are also people of her own race, black men especially in America like to promote light skinned black women over dark skinned ones. Man there are so many dark skinned women who are great singers and actresses who are not promoted enough like Coco Jones( she is so beautiful) and others.

I am not an actor, but sadly enough I can relate. I am so glad she is speaking about it.
I'm Native American and went to a church when I was 12 years old in the 80s. I told this white kid I like RUN-DMC, he asked me why, I said idk, I just do. I asked him what's wrong with them, he said their black. I quit talking to him and quit going to that church.
It's scary that whites are teaching their kids to be prejudiced and hateful

As any decent human being.
Huhhhhhh😂

Girl, this is a real issue. I had the same experience and decided that wasn't the industry for me. BUT, I had a bad experience with a black Viacom manager who looked at my braided hair and treated me the same way and rejected me for a job. I left the industry...PERIOD!!!
Sis,u should have slapped that manager by not giving up,ppl like that hates because we as black people are very intelligent, talented, and have love in our soul.
Hollyweird is a Facade. A young lady I dated in High School worked for some pretty high profile names I won't mention here. She left the Industry and teaches High School now.
Cuz she was part of the industry doing everything so she fit in. In so many words she did you a favor
Bro black people are 13% of the population in the US. Why wouldn't a business owner want to market their product to the other larger percentages that have more money to spend because there's more of them? If you want to make less and feel good about yourself you are free to do so, but if you want to be a movie star you got to do the weird stuff they want you to do. It's all a choice.
@@rudesword2852 Understood. But why should a black person be made to feel unnatural about what's natural about them to fit in?
Or in general, why should any human being compromise their integrity in the name of appealing to masses who are no 'grander' than them.
And the thing is, the image that's painted for the audience to recieve is usually far more 'wholesome' than the shenanigans that goes on behind the scenes.
It mostly goes to show that a majority of the 'weird' stuff aren't that critical to stardom at all.
So basically, he was also saying that Diana Ross didn't know her place either. This makes me boiling mad 😶🌫️. But Sheryl, you and Diana Ross understood the assignment here. Your place is where you are...where you were at that time and any other time. "So if I'm here, I belong here." We love you, Sheryl ❤️

Speak your Truth !!!!
And I have been Crushing on Ms Ralph forever and a day.
Sheryl has been through it all! I’m so happy she’s now receiving her flowers. So saddened to hear of her struggles
This has always been one of the most beautiful queens to ever Grace the stage or screen, black, white or any in-between.

These are what you call Strong Black Women! They stood against racism, sexism and all kinds of “God Knows What” and yet they persevered. They knocked down all kinds of doors all the while maintaining their dignity and Beauty. I have so much respect for these women. What this generation and younger is going through is light stuff compared to what they had to endure. Let’s always remember to give these Divas the respect they deserve.
This is generation is going thru a lot as well like the casting couch and the down side of sm
@@newflower8974 Both the old and new have gone through and it continues to this day. It's not a competition. It's heartbreaking.
@@Redeemed2000 💯💯good comment.
Some people don’t realize they are bigoted because they are simply ignorant. Thanks for your story and for being a Trail Blazer for us. And you won. That’s what counts.
The BOSS Diana Ross. They can never stop our Royalty👊🏿💐
Patti Labell said they told her she was too ugly to sell records 😳. Look at all of them now! 😍😍
I watched her on TV when I was a teenager, thinking to myself how beautiful she is . Now decades later to hear how terribly, she was treated is shocking & sad. I’m glad she continued acting & didn’t give up.
Yeah, you think show business is all glitz and glamor ? Please. You have to have skin and a mind as tough as a crocodile, and energy like the Everready bunny. Few know that Diana Ross was actually suffering from anorexia during the height of her career
