When I was a kid I used to rent Famicom games for a week. The guy who owned the rental store recommended this to me because he knew I liked Castlevania. Oh boy, I couldn't even get past the 2nd stage so I returned it midweek and got something else. Irem made some really nasty difficult games back in the day.
And Zakk and Randy are almost certainly named after Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhoads, who were in Ozzy's band after Black Sabbath broke up. Ones I'm less certain about: "Black Slayer" seems to combine Black Sabbath and Slayer's names. The Crimson Kingdom might be a reference to King Crimson, but there's no direct relationship between KC and Ozzy.
... also, that symbol on the wall that repeatedly appears in the first stage (the skull on a cross, with a snake winding through its eyes) is extremely familiar, but I can't quite place it (and I can't find it on Google images).
This game fucks you harder than life itself! But it's a pretty good game in overall. It's kinda like Castlevania. Also read the background story, holy shit!
